This pup is amazing. Plain and simple. I upgraded a Charvel San Dimas Pro mod from a JB-4 to this and there is simply no comparison. Although the JB is a high quality pickup, it doesnt have the "IT" factor that this does. This and a 5150, you'll have the brown sound. Dont question yourself, just buy it.

I just installed this in a custom Les paul jr I built, and man does this pickup put the rest to shame. On heavy distortion you can still hear some clearnity in the notes. And on clean its not to bright but also has some balls to it. The volume controle is like just ideal, smooth and gradual. the installation was easy too. I look forward to putting this in every guitar. However I do wonder how well it would function being coil split with other pickups.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is easily one of the best pickups ever conceived...it perfectly nails the elusive brown sound that several generations have been chasing. My guitar tech was completely stunned at how well this pickup actually sounded, despite him initially knocking it due to the price. Now that he realizes how wrong he was, he has ordered 3 to replace the pickups in some of his guitars. I highly recommend this pickup to anyone who wants not only the evh sound, but also an all-around amazing pickup that can be used for near anything.

Stop looking for that brown sound and buy this one already. I plugged in, left all the amp settings on 5 (exept gain), played the opening chords of "everybody wants some" and "unchained" and it sounded perfect. No matter what amp I plug into, the perfect brown sound punches right through with no effort. For years I've been looking for the brown sound and this emulates it exactly as I always wanted. However, it can also deliver a great metal sound (jake e lee or zakk) Also, when on a clean channel, it sounds bright and clear with good harmonic response, but most importantly, well balanced. I am exceptionally happy with this pickup.

This Is the Pickup You Have been looking for. I've have been playing for 30+ and I have tried every pickup out there and like I said this is the one. I was skeptical when I ordered it but Edwards got some secret knowledge that no one else has. You won't be disappointed. If the sound is what you've been chasing than you have found it. I will be ordering more for sure.

Been gigging for 30 years playing Classic Rock and with that, a lot of Van Halen tunes. I have tone chased for years.I first had the Seymour Duncan SH12 George Lynch "Screamin' Demon", this pickup (4-conductor wire) has been used by many to get close to EVH Brown Sound. However, as close as it was, I used the equalizer controls on my Peavey 6505+ amp to get as close as I could, and, it was still a little too low end bass'ey for me and lacked some high end tone of Eddie. The SH12 at 10K I guess made it a mid output pickup. The EVH Humbucker however is 2 conductor wire and at 14K is a 'hot' pickup. I swapped them out and OMG!.. I have never found the EVH brown sound with so much ease. It gave me everything the SH12 lacked and more. I first tested it through a Peavey 5-watt practice amp, with absolutley no pedals used and the sound I got was that of Eddie Van Halen right off the bat! _ this thing is totally incredible!! Get this pick up, you will not be dissapointed, it's WAY better than the EVO DP159, the Duncan 78, the Custom-Custom and the SH12 by far!!When setting up, and pressing the string at the highest fret, place one nickel between the high e string and the pickup pole pieces, the low E string, use 2 nickels and it's that simple!!I am more than very pleased !!! - I am totally 200% ecstatic!!

Tone....Need I say more? Eddie always talks about being a tone chaser, well this is the tone he was talking about; otherwise he wouldn't put his name on it. I bought this pickup to replace a seymour duncan TB-4 in a Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus. I replaced the stock Epiphone bridge pickup with the duncan hoping to get a tone that I would be happy with, and for the most part I was; however I like to experiment. After replacing the duncan with the EVH "Frankenbucker" if you will, I was amazed at the difference in the tone. All I can say is WOW. Saying this is a great bridge replacement pickup would totally be selling this pickup short. Buy it, try it, and I personally guarantee you will not be disappointed. Keep on Rocking!
