I discovered this amazing thumb pick after reading an interview with Steve Earle in Acoustic Guitar magazine. I figured that is Steve said he wanted to buy the machines that made this in the event that Fred Kelly ever dies-they must be worth a look. With relatively large hands I've struggled for years to find a thumb pick that fits, and isn't the overly thick National standard. Fred's done it with the bumblebee. It is adjustable, sturdy enough for strumming and thin enough so that the bass notes won't overwhelm on more delicate finger picking pieces. Sure, they seem a bit pricey. Recall that they are made by a small US manufacturer-literally at Fred Kelly's house in Michigan.

I really wanted this thumbpick to be workable. I love Fred Kelly speed thumb picks but this concept falls short of his normal standard.
The pick itself appears to be normal size but it is more the size of a small jazz pick.
It claims to have adjustable angle but is very limited & won't stay in place when picking.
The length adjustment goes from "way to short" to "not as long as even a normal thumb pick. There are better, cheaper & longer pick shaped thumb picks out there.
The tab that holds the pick on to the bracket is doomed to break & it allows the pick to move up & down when even lightly picking. You can't dig in with any real control.
This pick MAY work for electric guitar finger picking or very light soundhole acoustic guitars but absolutely useless for resonators. You can't dig in with any real control our assurance of attack.

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Delrin Teardrop Large Guitar Picks:

I'm a bass & keyboard performer, NOT an expert guitarist, so I find these thumb/flat picks to be the best of both worlds. Use as a thumb-pick for bass notes, or great for strumming, without worrying about dropping a pick. Durable, expensive but worth it, keeps you from being careless with picks. I like the lighter strength, try 'em!

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Delrin Teardrop Large Guitar Picks:

As a 64 year old strolling guitarist, my hands are pretty stiff the next day from using a regular pick or from a conventional thumb pick without finger picks, so I thought I'd try these out. They feel pretty good, could stand for it to be a bit thicker, but the ability to adjust the length and position is real nice. The Delrin finger picks were way too small and had to return them.

I have severe nerve problems in my right hand and thought I'd have to give up playing. I couldn't find a pick I could even hold, let alone control. Thought I'd take one last stab at it, so I ordered a pack of these. I'm sure glad I did. After some trial and error I got this one to work and I'm playing again. If you have problems hanging on to your pick, give these a try!!

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Delrin Teardrop Large Guitar Picks:

I have used the Kelly Bumblebee jazz standard thumb picks for a few years and decided to try these extra heavy teardrop shaped ones for a change. For me, after playing them for a few weeks, they are too heavy and too much of a paddle. The jazz picks have a finer, more pointy profile and are much faster and make it easier to balance my sound between my bare fingers and thumb pick.

I have used Fred Kelly speed picks for years but I find these to be superior to the speed pick because of the thin profile and especially because of the adjustable attack angle afforded by this design. I find it much easier to use for chiming effects as well as boom-chick technique.

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Delrin Teardrop Large Guitar Picks:

For somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 years I've been playing guitar holding a flat-pick with thumb and index finger and finger-picking with middle, ring, and little fingers. I've of course tried thumb picks many times trying to free up the extra finger for cascading harmonics and the like, but they have never grabbed me; too uncomfortable and too hard to adjust for picking depth. Then I saw this one and was intrigued. It's basically a flat-pick attached to a wrap around thumb-pick sort of arrangement. The depth of the pick can be adjusted by sliding it up or down in the slotted mount. So, i bought a few and have been attempting to get used to them. Apart from a few brief stints playing a bit here and there I spent eight hours doing finger exercises a couple of days ago and another four or five hours yesterday all using this pick. I think I'm starting to take to it. I have a solo gig in a couple of weeks and if I've fully adapted I'll do it with the Fred Kelly Bumblebee Thumb/flat-pick. So maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks....

Comments about Fred Kelly Picks Delrin Teardrop Large Guitar Picks:

I normally fingerpick, and have tried many thumb picks, hoping to combine the benefits of both. However, every thumbpick I tried was too long and usually too heavy. After reading endorsements from Steve Earle, I became curious about the Fred Kelly "Bumblebee" picks. I picked one up at Steve's "Camp Copperhead," found it an improvement with the ability to adjust the pick length (shortest possible for me.) However, the yellow thumb holder was very tight. Not knowing which size I had, I ordered the large size with the lighter gauge pick and voila - the perfect solution! Comfortable, secure and gives me the ability to fingerpick and strum as I please. This is a fine product - not cheap, but if it does the job for you it is well worth the price. Besides - cheap things are generally just that - "cheap"!

It's plastic versus steel. Personally I like the plastic pick. You can adjust for thumb or finger. Great idea.

This is a very well made guitar pick and I believe these Fred Kelly picks are very unique. I, like others, became intrigued about them after reading Steve Earle's comments in Acoustic Guitar magazine. I think if you're a strummer then you probably wouldn't be interested in this pick. Because I have what some would describe as a hybrid style, something like this has the potential to work well. I'm hoping this pick will enable me to mix my hybrid fingerstyle playing with occasional strumming without changing picks. I just received mine so I still have to get used to it but like I said, it looks promising.

Works well, size a little small

Nice concept, with a pick connected to the thumb clamp in a way that how much it protrudes can be adjusted. However, the "large" pick was too small for my thumb.
