Furman

An Intelligently designed power conditioner with 9 outlets.

The Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner is what you need to protect your valuable equipment from power spikes and sags. An advanced Series Multi-Stage Protection Plus (SMP+) circuit provides rock-solid, maintenance-free extreme surge suppression with zero ground contamination thanks to Furman Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT). This unit has 8 rear-panel outlets and one front-panel outlet, a 15-amp rating with circuit breaker, retractable LED rack lights with on/off/dimmer control, BNC back panel connector for gooseneck lamp with front-panel switch, and a segmented LED voltmeter to monitor and display incoming line voltage. The Furman PL-Plus C fits in one rack unit and comes with a 10', 14-gauge, heavy-duty power cable.

Furman's Classic Series power conditioners feature the Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) circuit and the exclusive Linear Filter Technology (LiFT). The maintenance-free SMP surge suppression handles the most extreme transient voltage spikes are safely absorbed, clamped, and dissipated without destruction of the circuit. LiFT ensures optimal performance through linear filtering with no leakage to ground, protecting the audio and video quality of your signal.

The Classic Series units have super-bright, long-life, retractable LED rack lights that produce virtually no heat and provide an extremely long lifespan. There is an on/off/dimmer control for the lights. A BNC back panel connector will accommodate a gooseneck lamp for rear-rack illumination. A front panel switch controls the gooseneck's operation. The Classic Series units occupy one rack unit space each and have a convenient front-panel mounted outlet.

A master switch controls operation of the rear outlets. The rear outlets are split into 2 isolated banks to minimize inter-component interference and noise contamination. The left bank features three widely spaced outlets for accommodating, bulky AC power transformers, while the right bank has 5 outlets more closely spaced. The Series II conditioners come with a 10', 14-gauge, heavy-duty power cable.

Furman, as always, with their standard stuff, delivers in quality. Have used some of their lower priced stuff, but you get what you pay for. This is better!!

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

This thing is pretty massive, so make sure your rack can handle it. It works really well, the lights in the front make it easy to understand. It has two lamps on the front that you can pull out or hide and you can control their brightness, definitely helpful! The spaces in the back that give you extra room for bulky devices is really helpful! I love that this has an outlet on the front as well, I use it for my phone and my laptop. It is really good, it keeps away any noise that you would usually get from a bad power source. The price is irrelevant on this this, whether this is cheap or expensive, it does the job it was made to do!

      Life Insurance For Your Gear

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

Recently, I just built a new PA system for one of my bands. After investing several thousand dollars in a digital console and new power amps, we decided that we should up the ante on our power conditioning.

I've been using Furman gear since the early 80's (I've got one of their parametric EQs in a studio rack that's still rockin'). Their power conditioners have been in my equipment racks as long as they've been making them. But the ones we had been using for the PA were coming up on 8 years old. Being a Senior Electronics Tech by trade, I knew that certain components in a power conditioner wear out over time.

After comparing specs, features, and price we opted to go with the PL-Plus-C. The two specs I really look at for a power conditioner are the noise attenuation and the response time. A lot of manufacturers don't fully spec these, and in my experience an omitted spec is usually one they're not very proud of.

The attenuation and response time of the PL-Plus-C is on par with some of Furman's more expensive solutions, just minus the whistles and bells. I gave up having a digital live voltage readout, but for me the bar graph style meter is a lot easier to read across a stage.

Bonus points to Furman for adding the LED on the front to indicate that the protection circuitry is working. This is a section of power conditioners that takes the brunt of line surges (so your equipment doesn't have to). It does eventually wear out, and to have that "wear indicator" on the front is huge! And the lamp socket on the rear panel is a handy addition when working on your connections...because we all know how well most clubs are lit, right?

Finally, the unit is seriously built. It's funny because one of the only negative reviews I've ever read on this conditioner was someone complaining about the weight. Well, that rookie apparently doesn't realize that good noise attenuation on AC power lines takes some sizeable inductors, and those are use going to have some heft to them. I personally find the weight (12 pounds) to be reassuring.

So, how well does it work? Time will tell. Again, this is 1 rack unit of insurance. I can tell you this...in all of my time using Furman power products I have never lost a piece of gear to an electrical event. And when I can read interviews and see pictures of the gear that a lot of pro touring musicians and sound companies use and see the same piece of gear I've got in my rack...well, there's got to be something to that.

        Weight isn't a bad thing

        By Pocketdrummer

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

This is in direct relation to the previous review.Weight is NOT A CONCERN when protecting your gear. In fact, it often is a good indicator of quality. If you know anything about Power Supplies in a computer, you'll know that the heavy ones are usually the most reliable one's on the market.I'm glad it's heavier than the first version!Don't let Weight influence your purchase. This is a great product and I highly recommend it.

        Power

        By Powerman

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

This power conitioner is supposed to be the improved version of the Pl-Plus Series 1.The biggest prblem I have is that this thing is TWICE as heavy than its predecessor. Gigging musicians today want their gear to be LIGHT weight and easy to haul. This thing weighs more than most power amps @ 12 lbs! It's a fancy power strip, not an amplifer.Bring back the 5.8 lb. Pl-Plus with LED read-outs!
