Comments about Gator G-Pro Roto Mold Rolling Rack Case:
The wheels on this case are nice shock absorbant "in-line skate" style rollers. Overall, the case is pretty sturdy, but they clearly went cheap on the handle. It works, but it's plastic and doesn't feel like it was made to last. This case might have earned 3 or 4 stars if Gator hadn't allowed it to hit the shelves with a SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. As other reviewers have said, the case is DESIGNED IMPROPERLY. When lying flat the case sits at an angle. The wheels stick out from the bottom side far enough that the rubber feet on the opposite end of the case are not thick enough to compensate for the depth of the wheels. If you don't care that your gear will be sitting at an angle, this is a good case for less cost than others out there, but good luck trying to stack this case with one or more other cases. You'll end up with a leaning tower of expensive, sensitive equipment. The worst part is, because Musician's Friend has no physical store locations, if you buy it then realize it's useless and want to return it, you are going to eat close to 50 greens to ship it back to them because of the size of this thing. I gave this case 1 star because of the design flaw, and because I don't like throwing away money to return a defective product to a company that should aim to not sell defective products to consumers in the first place.
Comments about Gator G-Pro Roto Mold Rolling Rack Case:
The wheels roll nice, but the extention handle might not hold up real long if you have heavy gear in the case. I put a rackmount UPS and an amp in one, and it just felt like with the weight of those items, it might not hold up over time. I sort of felt like I had to be careful how much pulling I did on the handle as I went up the curb of the sidewalk. It seemed better with the case with lighter gear in it (just 3 CD recorders).
I received my new Gator G-Pro Roto Mold Rolling Rack 6 Space Cases (Item#712531) the other day. I thought they looked nice and would meet my needs (because I really wanted rolling cases and had spend HOURS doing research on the best ones for the money), but after I got all my gear installed and took them to my gig, I went to stack them like we all do with these type of cases and they DIDN’T STACK PROPERLY.
GATOR MESSED UP! When they added the wheels to make them portable, they did not notch out a corresponding grove on the top of each case for the wheels of the case above to rest in, nor did they add larger rubber feet on the opposite side of the case to make that side the correct height to level out the case. Soooooo, my bottom case sat crooked on the floor, and case above either wanted to slide off to the side (the wheels kept making it slide to one side or the other) or if I could get it to sit in the right place that case sat crooked too. My nice, new stack of cases looked terrible!!! And I had ordered 2 more that were on backorder, so I’m returning them all. Thankfully MF (Musician’s Friend) is taking them back, but I’m very disappointed that these didn’t work as described. Hopefully, MF can get Gator to correct the problem, since it's not MF's fault.
Currently, the pictures shown with the 2 cases stacked on top of each other are NOT these rolling cases. If you look closely, there are no wheels or slide-out handle in those images. And even if you only needed 1 case, it would still not sit level on the floor or on a tabletop unless you put a spacer or something under the other side to level out the rack to the height of the wheels. VERY BAD DESIGN BY GATOR ON THESE! I really hate to write a bad review, but I’m writing this to save you from the same mistake. :-)
I think the quality of the construction isn't bad. I feel like they will scratch more easily than some of the other more hard cases I've used, and I think the softer plastic will start to look roughed up if you do a lot of moving around with them. Also, as long as your gear isn't too heavy, it's not a bad design. The pictures make them look real rugged and sharp looking with the slick black look, but I don't think they will hold up over time like some others. But like I said, I'm returning them for another reason, so didn't get to use them long enough to get a good feel.
Decent value for the price, but when the design of the product is flawed, it's hard to say it's of appropriate value.
