I used these wire to "fatten up" my new Ludwig LM402 supraphonc 6.5x14. Thanks to the wide snare beds, these do not choke the snare. Instead, they give me a FAT snare sound and improve sensitivity, bridging the gap between the 402 and the much more expensive supersensitive. Very worthy upgrade!

I bought these snares as an, but I think I got the set that are in the picture on the website (notice the poor quality of the snares in that picture). The snares I received were uneven and noisy in all the wrong ways. They are way cheaper than Pure Sound snares, so I am not out much money. They may work better if you are lucky and get a good set. I recommend spending the good money up front to make sure you get a perfect product.

LOVED IT!

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

It gave my snare that fat, wide snap that i need! If you've heard John Mayer's "Vultures", thats how it would sound like. I highly recommend it, just dont be like the other stupid kids that tighten it so much that they break. These are meant for loose tuning.

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

Great pair of snares. Made my 14x6.5 snare sound even fatter. I like a nice crisp snare that's very sensitive to my ghost notes. My 20 strands were just not getting it done. I wanted less tone, more snap and more sensitivity.

So I got a great pair of wires, no flaws on the wires themselves. The only flaw I noticed was that it came with plastic straps. They were durable but they are a pain to install. I would recommend getting some nylon or use some string for more sensitivity.

Right off the bat when I installed them and tuned in my tension for my snares, I immediately noticed how much crisper and how sensitive my snare became. I use a lot of ghost notes and rolls in my playing, so these helped bring out those nuances more. It removes "most" of the tone in your snare, depending on tuning. Great for recording or real "lively" snares that need to be deadened. I feel my snare became louder as well.

Most people on here that complain about them being bad wires or wires snapping off, probably over tensioned their wires or didn't properly install them.

Great product, I would definitely recommend these to all drummers that have deep snares (6" or deeper). They are great for people on a budget (like me) and they get the job done. You really can't complain getting a 42 strand snare wires for this cheap of a price.

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

I actually purchased this for my drummer who is rebuilding an old marching snare. He liked it, so no issues. Funny story however. I ordered this with other items, but somewhere along the way, UPS tampered with the box, apparently stealing this item, and replaced it with a off brand of paper towels. I contacted MF, and they took care of it. Never had any problem with UPS before. *shakes my head*. Thank god I purchase my items from MF, they had my back all the way. I like that piece of mind when shopping for goods.

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

The 42 Strand Gibraltar will give your snare a nice fat crunchy sound. It's easy to install and sounds good. It's not really durable compared to Tama or DW...one of the strands on mine has already un-welded itself so now mine is a 41 stand snare. No big deal. Good buy if your on a budget...and a lot of us are.

I've had this snare strand for 5 years on my Pearl 14x8 free floating snare and I love it!!! I couldn't get the sound I wanted with the regular 20 strand on an 8" deep snare. This is perfect for all style of music.

Give your snare some wet action!

This is my first 42-strand strainer and boy did it add a lot to my maple snare. I now have an amazing warm/wet sound. Pick one up.
No problems so far. I could see some strands possibily breaking if one were to excessively tighten it down but who cares, you have 42-strands!

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

This is a great strainer! I have them on multiple drums:
        4x14 Gretsch Hand Hammered
        6.5 x 14 Gretsch Maple (Renoun 57')
        5x14 DW Workshop series metal
        5x14 DW Maple (pre-Collectors)
        6.5x14 Pork Pie BOB

It works great on each one. Love added the sensitivity and the added fullness is outstanding. I am using standard REMO coated heads, nothing fancy (love the openness of those heads. Great combo with the fat strainer.

Have had zero quality issues, if you know how to tune a drum and not over tighten a strainer, you'll be fine.

Comments about Gibraltar SC-4442-Strand Snare Wires:

Superb quality product from Gibraltar. Some drummers advocate a reduced strainer of 8 wires to eliminate sympathetic snare buzz. I didn't have a snare buzz problem but was curious to hear what an 8 wire strainer sounded like, compared to the standard 20 wire, and found a reduced character in my snare sound as a result. So I tried going in the opposite direction, to a 42 wire strainer. Any buzz problem with 20 or 42 wires is easily eliminated by proper tuning of the snare to the toms (I'm a recording artist, overdubbing drum parts, so I don't have any buzzing snare troubles from guitar amps). With the 42 wire strainer the timbral character of the snare is greatly increased, with a terrific range from soft buzz rolls and ghost notes to sharp, cracking rim shots. I'm presently spoiled by the filled-out sound of the 42 wire strainer. If you haven't tried one, check it out.
