I put it off for as long as I could, but the time finally came when I was forced to put new machine heads on my 1974 Gibson J-55. These Grover heads, with tulip-style knobs are a perfect fit. They are the next best thing to finding old, original, machine heads. They hold well, tune easily and look great. It took about 10 minutes to replace them.
Comments about Gibson Modern Nickel Machine Heads with Metal Buttons:
Good solid tuners for the money, but I had to enlarge the existing holes in my Epi Les Paul Jr (I just wanted a crappy guitar that I could pimp out) and I had to to drill new pilot holes for the screws. Aside from that, the tuners feel a lot better in my fingers than the Ep stock ones. And so far they haven't given me any trouble keeping in tune. Definitely more than I wanted to pay but I guess thats what you get for buying Grovers. Not disappointed, but a little miffed that the description doesn't specify which models these tuners will fit on.
Comments about Gibson Modern Nickel Machine Heads with Metal Buttons:
Grover tuners have rocked for years, and this set is no different. The fact I did not need a drill, or a trip to repair shop, plus the rock solid performance of the Grover design makes this the ideal choice for anyone looking to upgrade. I would not choose anything else. I must also mention these things look killer on the guitar.
These tuning machines are direct replacements for the Gibson deluxe plastic tulip style machines. These tuners bolt right up using the existing bottom hole for the deluxe tuners so no drilling is required. The top hole is nearly covered up but still visible, However the improvement in tuning is well worth it. The washers, threaded inserts, and mounting screws are all identical to the deluxe, this set defines "direct replacement".
This set is made by Grover for Gibson, They are stamped Grover on the tuner. The tension is adjustable and they are absolutely rock solid. Same tuner as the original Grovers with the "kidney style" button, but with metal "tulip deluxe style" buttons.
Fantastic price, and easy for anyone to install. No trip to the repair shop needed.

Comments about Gibson Modern Nickel Machine Heads with Metal Buttons:
I had just replaced the pickups in my epi les paul, and I was looking for a way for it to stay in tune better. I did some research and heard that these were good, so I got them. Instillation was nice and easy (since the old tuners are grovers, and actually so are these) and i was set up in less than twenty minutes. My guitar still got out of tune quickly, and it wasn't until I had the neck set up better, and put graphite in the nut that it actually had a noticeable difference in how well it stayed in tune. I have two epi LPs and while I don't regret buying these (they make you les paul look a lot more legit) I don't know if I will buy them for my other epi les paul. So if you don't expect a world of difference like I did, you won't be disappointed.
Comments about Gibson Modern Nickel Machine Heads with Metal Buttons:
The tuners that came stock on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard weren't that great, although they were Grover?s (go figure). I decided to replace them because one of them got really loose, and they didn?t really stay in tune very well. I didn't want something that didn't match-up with the stock screw hole, or that needed to have the post holes enlarged, so I decided that these were the ticket. The salesman said that even though the stock tuners were Grover's, that didn?t mean that they were quality. Anyway, I bought these, took em home and installed em; they seem to be a huge improvement. My guitar stays in tune a lot better than it did. I think the remaining tuning issues that I?m having have to do with the stock nut; which I am going to have replaced. For the money, these are good tuners, and FAR better than the tuners that came on the guitar. If I had another Les Paul that needed tuners, I would buy these again.

Well I got these because my niece knocked my Gibson SG down and broke one of the tuners, Luckily thats all that broke. when I finaly got these I put them in myself, and they worked out great, Nothing better. Never goes out of tune, Never. These worked for me and I hope they work for you. Good Luck.
Comments about Gibson Modern Nickel Machine Heads with Metal Buttons:
I bought these at my local guitar center recently and installed them on my epi les paul. They fit perfectly and no modifications or drilling was needed. I replaced my old ones because one of the old ones bent and spun freely and didnt hold a tune. I didnt realize that these tuners would be better. The ratio is excellent, and they have a bit more resistance so they stay in tune better and make it easier to find that sweet spot in perfect tune. As for looks, they look great and look much better than the stock epi ones. The reason they got a four for features is because I wish they could come with a locking feature. Other than that they are perfect.

If your guitar suffers tuning problems, put these in NOW. I put these in my Epi and am very pleased. They do go out of tune if bumped, but other than that, they are just fine.
