The amber cap is exactly what gibson used on the original guitars back in the fifties. And yes, it has threads. I use these caps on all my historic reissue gibson guitars because the toggle caps that come with the historic reissue guitars today are light brown and not amber like the originals. These ARE Original Gibson parts. If you put these on other brand guitars you're obviously going to find an imperfect match for your guitar. If you want an original gibson toggle cap from the fifties (like your '59 les paul)... this is it! I love them and won't use anything else.

Buyer beware this replacement cap is not for Gibson and Epi guitars made in the last decade as they started using different toggle switches. The new switches have caps that thread on, but this cap is made to snap on and has a wider base like the one on the original toggle switches.

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

I have a 2011 Gibson Les Paul Studio. It goes on, but the threads are set back further than the originals. So it goes down too far and does not allow the toggle to move in any direction. I contacted Gibson and was told these are the only caps being produced currently. The retro / vintage ones look like they may work, however they cost a lot more and do not come in black.

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

It fits my Gibson toggle switch perfectly (unlike the generic switch cover I intitally purchased which only fits Ephipone). I toggle back and forth frequently when playing live... pretty much every guitar solo in every song. No issues yet as far as it comming loose.

This cap fit my Trad Pro II perfect. It was a bit orange, but that is easily solved. Take an emery board. and make fine scratches all over it. after some use the skin oils will make it a perfect antique amber color. Problem solved !

I was really disappointed that it did not fit my 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio. The toggle cap was way

too wide to fit onto the pickup selector switch.
Too pricey for just one toggle cap.

Comments about Gibson Toggle Switch Cap:

simple plastic threaded cap, but won't buy another one for my gibson toggle switch.
got a black toggle cap for my gibson 3-way toggle switch.
the switch is probably about 2-3 years old and takes a threaded cap.

these caps are threaded, but the threads don't start at the end of the cap. they start being threaded about 1/2 way into the cap. this resulted in the cap being to far down the shaft of the toggle switch and wouldn't allow me to move it. I had to cut the bottom 1/2 of the cap off (up to the threads) and reinstall. works fine now.

I'm assuming these might be more for older gibson switches? I'm not really sure.

If i need another one, i wouldn't get one of these. I would look for another threaded toggle that i wouldn't have to cut in half.
                            simple plastic. nothing fancy.
cheap, but i had to cut it in order for it to work.
