I have a 15yr old acoustic that sounds great, but has warping issues that cannot be resolved. I put the Golden Gate Resonator Nut Extension on and it raised the string height about 1/8" - 1/4" above normal. Now it's really great for playing slide!! 3 pieces of advice: 1. The string spread is a bit wide because it's meant for a resonator guitar, so the strings may be wider at the nut than is normal for your guitar. But you won't be fretting anyway, so it's no big deal. 2. Investing in a flat bridge blank (or sanding flat the existing one) for the saddle will help you when sliding higher up above the 12th fret... depending on the curve your existing bridge has. Wasn't really an issue for me. 3. If it doesn't quite work for the guitar you need it for, hang on to it, you'll use it eventually, especially becasue it's not permanent. I would have never really been able to use my guitar again for performance or recording, and now I can! It seriously felt like getting a new guitar for the cost of the nut extension and a new set of strings. I can't argue with that.

This is a great idea. You can play slide on any guitar without fretting-out all over the place. It's drawbacks: The string spacing is so wide, that my high and low Es are off the neck. This nut will slip around from left to right when resting on a plastic truss rod cover thus putting you out of tune. I ended up epoxying a rubber band to the bottom of it. That fixed it. I use it quite often when recording slide guitar both acoustic and electric. Since it has no competitors, I'd recommend buying it.

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

The Golden Gate nut extension works exactly as advertised. It converts any guitar into a slide friendly instrument, raising the strings to a perfect height for slide. It takes just a few minutes to loosen the strings, place the Golden Gate over the existing nut, and then retuning. The extra width of the nut extension does not impede playability and doesn't get in the way at all.

It is lightweight, will fit in any gig bag or case for on the fly switchovers, and is well made.

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

I read a lot of reviews on this Product, about it being to wide for the Guitars they were being installed on. Yes it is wide, but it makes no difference at all in what it does to the function of the playing, after all, Remember you are not using the Frets anymore, you are using a slide, or tone bar. the fretboard is no longer a factor in the Playing. This is a great product, made well and does what it is intended to do. Try it Open your mind not your Eyes and everything will be fine.

My dad has severe arthritis and was having trouble playing the guitar in the regular manner other guitar players could so I purchased this from MF and he is able to play the guitar again. He has smiled for days now. Great product! Thanks MF!

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

I can't imagine a guitar fingerboard wide enought for this to fit on; a classical neck, maybe, but who would ever set up a classical guitar for slide? It's way too wide for the neck on any guitar I own. I'll keep it; it's not worth the shipping to send it back. But I doubt it will ever be used.

                  Reso. guitar ext. nut

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

It is not usable for what it is advertized unles you have a 2 inch wide neck and then for slide work only. They need to go back to the drawing board and scale this thing down and make it to fit the nut.
This product needs to go back to the drawing board. It is way too big. It doesn't realy fit the nut. It is 1-11/16 wide and spaces the strings past the sides of the neck. I doesn't realy ride the nut, but setts mainly on the headstock and fret board. It raises the strings way too high to do any finger and slide work. This would be more like a lap steel.
                  Cheaply stamped out.

Slide conversion gives new life to an old guitar!

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

Bought the nut and steel guitar strings to convert an old acoustic guitar to a slide guitar. Tricky fitting the nut to a fast neck, but applying tension evenly to the strings worked out fine even with the nut being wider than the guitar neck. Love the sound I get from this slide guitar now.

                  Good idea, but...

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

Don't be misled by the description. This will not work on "any" guitar. The string spacing is so wide that it has to be positioned at around the 12th fret before it can accomodate the strings - I play the lightest set sold on this site and they have to be FORCED into the channels! It's also got unmilled edges which damage the finish and dig into any part of the guitar they happen to contact. A great idea, really, but the only way I can salvage it is to borrow the tools to file my own string grooves. Otherwise, it might make a good bridge for a cigar box guitar, I guess...
