I have played guitar since the age of 14 (I'm 66 now) and have always wanted to try my hands at a lap steel guitar.

Arthritis seems to be taking away some of my playing ability so I have been thinking about alternatives to the guitar.

A couple of years ago, I drove by a home that had a pile of things that they were throwing away. I noticed a guitar sitting in the items. Curiosity led me to check it out. It turned out to be a Rogue acoustic guitar. Knowing this was about as basic and cheap as a guitar could be, for whatever reason, I decided to take it with me. Well, it has no tone to speak of, but boy, acoustically, this thing is loud! So I kept it tuned to open G and occasionally would pick it up and pick around on it.

Since I have always liked the sound of pedal steel guitar, I decided to buy the raised nut, and slap it on the cheap, but loud, guitar. I ordered lap steel strings at the same time. So I changed out the strings, put on the raised nut, and found a YouTube video to learn C6 tuning and a few fingering positions to get me started. It was love as first sound! For the price of the nut, strings, and a slide
I discovered a brand new way to keep the arthritic hands from taking me away from guitar.

Without a doubt, I will be purchasing a lap steel in the near future!

I have a Dobro brand round neck resonator guitar. The Resonator Guitar Extension Nut is a "One size fits all unit." It is wider than the neck and nut of my guitar and the strings would not stay in the grooves when I tuned up to normal pitch. If there were small, medium and large sizes of the extension nut, the correct size could be functional.

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

I read a lot of reviews on this Product, about it being to wide for the Guitars they were being installed on. Yes it is wide, but it makes no difference at all in what it does to the function of the playing, after all, Remember you are not using the Frets anymore, you are using a slide, or tone bar. the fretboard is no longer a factor in the Playing. This is a great product, made well and does what it is intended to do. Try it Open your mind not your Eyes and everything will be fine.

My dad has severe arthritis and was having trouble playing the guitar in the regular manner other guitar players could so I purchased this from MF and he is able to play the guitar again. He has smiled for days now. Great product! Thanks MF!

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

This baby does exactly what it promised: it raised the strings of my acoustic up high enough to play slide without worrying about unwanted fretting. The best part: I could do it myself--it just slips in on top of the nut. It was well worth the price.

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

The Golden Gate nut extension works exactly as advertised. It converts any guitar into a slide friendly instrument, raising the strings to a perfect height for slide. It takes just a few minutes to loosen the strings, place the Golden Gate over the existing nut, and then retuning. The extra width of the nut extension does not impede playability and doesn't get in the way at all.

It is lightweight, will fit in any gig bag or case for on the fly switchovers, and is well made.

Slide conversion gives new life to an old guitar!

            By timothy kadtke

            from Claymont,DE

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

I have a 15yr old acoustic that sounds great, but has warping issues that cannot be resolved. I put the Golden Gate Resonator Nut Extension on and it raised the string height about 1/8" - 1/4" above normal. Now it's really great for playing slide!! 3 pieces of advice: 1. The string spread is a bit wide because it's meant for a resonator guitar, so the strings may be wider at the nut than is normal for your guitar. But you won't be fretting anyway, so it's no big deal. 2. Investing in a flat bridge blank (or sanding flat the existing one) for the saddle will help you when sliding higher up above the 12th fret... depending on the curve your existing bridge has. Wasn't really an issue for me. 3. If it doesn't quite work for the guitar you need it for, hang on to it, you'll use it eventually, especially becasue it's not permanent. I would have never really been able to use my guitar again for performance or recording, and now I can! It seriously felt like getting a new guitar for the cost of the nut extension and a new set of strings. I can't argue with that.

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

Don't be misled by the description. This will not work on "any" guitar. The string spacing is so wide that it has to be positioned at around the 12th fret before it can accomodate the strings - I play the lightest set sold on this site and they have to be FORCED into the channels! It's also got unmilled edges which damage the finish and dig into any part of the guitar they happen to contact. A great idea, really, but the only way I can salvage it is to borrow the tools to file my own string grooves. Otherwise, it might make a good bridge for a cigar box guitar, I guess...

Comments about Golden Gate Resonator Guitar Extension Nut:

The string slots are stamped into the metal and the one that I received had a low E slot so shallow the string would not stay in. Also, the nut is wider than the guitar fretboard and the excessive width of the nut and the subsequent tension on the E string kept causing it to pop out of the groove. Fortunately I was able to deepen the slot with my trusty Dremel and everything is staying in place now. I use the extension on a cheap guitar that had poor sound quality when played normally. Playing the guitar with a slide definitely improves the tone and makes the guitar more usable for country blues playing. Overall, a decent product.

I'm new to resonator and to slide. I also like playing my round neck reso in standard tuning and configuration. This device allows me to do both with minimal adjustment. Just loosen the strings and slide it in place, retune, and ready to go.
