Gorilla Snot

Get a grip!

Gorilla Snot helps guitarists hang on to their picks while burning up the strings and helps drummers keep a grip on their drumsticks when they drum up a sweat. Gorilla Snot has also found a niche among roadies and sound techs for hauling gear around.

Natural, biodegradable rosin is applied by rubbing a small amount of Gorilla Snot between your thumb and index finger and working it into your pick or sticks. Gorilla snot dries in about 45 seconds, forming a soft yet tacky surface activated by body heat.

Gorilla snot keeps you from losing your grip onstage. Order today — you'll wonder how you ever got along without it!

This stuff is great for drum sticks and I'm suprised to see mainly reviews from guitarists here.

The Snot helps you grip your sticks comfortably and without strain when you're warming up. This reduces fatigue not only early on, but throughout your entire practice time or set.

The main caveat I can offer is a little goes a very long way. Putting on too much will actually make it harder to play (think sticks glued to your hand with no finger mobility), so be conservative with it until you find the amount that works best.

Finally, this is really nothing more than pine sap/tar/resion, so it's going to stay on your hands until you remove it and it has that unmistakable odor.

But I'll gladly smell like a Christmas tree with sticky hands to enjoy the ability to warm up more quickly, not tire out as quickly and have immensely better stick control than go without this essential product.

Dated 2013 but still had a 1/4 inch crust on top. Smells like turpintine, but not bad. A little bit goes a long way. Problem is that it holds pick in place to well; can't adjust pick once you grab it on the fly. Concerned it will gunk up my strings as I switch from pick to finger picking. It DOES work. I'm sure it will come in handy when it's hot.

        Comments about Gorilla Snot:

I put some in every guitar case. Rub between fingers holding your pick. It helps keep hold of picks so playing is fluid with no drop outs from lost picks or having to use fingers after dropping. I have diabetic neuropathy and this is a lifesaver for me due to lost feeling in fingers. Works best strumming. The only negative is the transition from strumming to fingerpicking. Fingers stick together so need to wipe off to fingerpick.

        Comments about Gorilla Snot:

I bought Pro-Grip from Elderly Instruments, Lansing Michigan and Gorilla Snot from Musicians Friend. Both are rosin-based products designed to reduce flat pick slippage and turning by getting sticky. Pro-Grip is more creamy, smells better and gets sticky in a few seconds. Gorilla Snot doesn't have an aromatic scent added and is immediately sticky. Both work great to reduce flat-pick slippage and turning. Turning means the flat-pick will turn around between your fingers if you tend to perspire while playing. The Pro-Grip was a bit less expensive than Gorilla Snot. Granted, both products work as advertised, but I prefer the Pro-Grip. Try them both and see which you prefer, then gift someone with the product you don't like.

Not for everyone,I'm sure.If your stage volume and your fatigue level is high, try some.Gloves and grip tape were not my solution.Probably too much adhesion for finger-control jazz players.I don't plan to gig without it.It did, however, pull skin on my right hand,I bandage tape friction spots now.Added speed and confidence.

I'm in a Christian Worship band so the style I play goes from folk finger picking to light jazz to old gospel and rock. And the GS keeps me in there all the time. I use Kelly Speed picks on my thumb (MF doesn't carry them ) so the goo is up the thumb a little and not my thumb nail so it doesn't interfere with finger picking. In my show, it's a must.

I discovered this product about 20 years ago and find it very difficult to play accurately and quickly without using a very small amount if it on thumb and first finger.
