TUSQ XL offers vintage looks and permanent lubrication.

TUSQ XL Fender Style Slotted Nut (PQL-5000-00) is a replacement nut for Fender guitars.

Finally, the breakthrough you've been waiting for. Now you can have it all - the great tone of TUSQ, classic good looks AND permanent lubrication. If you love the look of a vintage white nut, but you keep going out of tune when you bend strings or use your tremolo, then TUSQ XL is just what you need.

TUSQ XL is designed to boost guitar tone and performance. This precision engineered nut is made with a specially formulated material which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. It is based on the highly resonant TUSQ man made ivory, but is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.

If you have an acoustic or vintage guitar, you owe it to yourself to hear the difference a TUSQ guitar replacement nut, saddle and bridge pins make. Compared to standard materials such as bone, Micarta or Corian, you'll hear more harmonics with every note you play when you use the TUSQ replacement nut on your guitar.

TUSQ is a proprietary material which is precision engineered under high pressure and heat. It is specifically formulated to deliver the right frequencies with the optimum transfer rate to the top of your guitar every time. Because of the way the TUSQ replacement nut is made, it is a consistent material that is rich in tone and harmonic content.

TUSQ has quickly become an important tone performance tool for some of the world's most renowned guitar manufacturers, luthiers and playing professionals. The TUSQ replacement nut has rich tone and sustain, without the inconsistency found in ivory, bone and other natural materials. Bone and ivory have hard and soft spots (grain) throughout each piece, hampering consistent transfer of vibrations to the guitar top. TUSQ guitar nuts, saddles and bridge pins are designed to transfer the right frequencies more efficiently from the string to the guitar body. Acoustic guitars come alive. Electric guitars will get a brighter sound and increased harmonic content.

I've used Tusq nuts on many of my guitars and finally decided to try the XL version on my 57 RI Strat because of its teflon infusion which eliminates the need for lubrication. I do a lot of bends and some heavy whammy bar dips and pulls for some tunes and the guitar stays in tune very well. The tab found on the bottom of the nut is to accommodate wider radius necks, for vintage 7-1/4" just trim it off and you're good to go. The nut fit my Strat perfectly and the roughed in slots aligned exactly with the nut I removed. You will need to have a repairman file the slots to their proper depth or you can do it yourself if you have a set of luthier files. This is a great product that does all it says, increases note definition, files and sands like bone, and does not require lubrication. If you are looking for a replacement, I highly recommend the Tusq XL.

This TUSQ nut was purchased for a '72 Thinline Tele RI (MIJ). The only thing about this nut that fit the guitar was the nut-to nut spacing. The side and bottom both needed modification, and even then it didn't really fit. There is a tongue on the bottom center of this nut that makes it see-saw (See pic). If you gradually sand the tongue down to eliminate see-sawing, you'll find it reduces the action much for the guitar, so the only option is spliting it. In short, the top to bottom thickness of this design needs to be increased to fit at 72 Thinline Tele (MIJ). Best of luck to anybody else who purchases this device! Be ready for some precision sanding work!

Installed this on a 1962 reissue strat along with a mighty mite maple neck and a calaham bridge and locking tuners. This thing doesn't go out of tune unless you work hard at it. I'm floating a vintage style bridge which always use to go out of tune. My other stratocaster has a roller nut that I put on it with the regular floating bridge and I'm thinking about changing it to this nut it actually works better but only time will tell. For the money I would try this first. Fits good just have to trim the ends no nut files.

With a little sanding to fit, This nut rescued my home-built Strat from my ham-fisted, novice nut adjustment. I'd a used hobby saw in a clumsy effort to adjust the height of the nut with catastrophic results. The TUSQ XL produces a clean, clear sound where there was mud!
I have already ordered 2 more for my other home-builts!

It was very simple to drop into my Strat neck. It was at the perfect level, so I only required som sanding on the sides for flushing it to the neck.

I bought this nut because my stock nut on my 2001 American Standard Stratocaster's was old, worn and making my guitar impossible to intonate properly. I popped the old nut and put the new nut on in less than an hour. I did file off the bottom tab and filed it a little to get it into the slot. I used no glue. I did not file the string grooves.
Results; I couldn't be happier! What a shock! It fixed my intonation problem and the guitar stays in tune far better. I really had no idea that as nuts wear out it screws up the intonation so much. I'm no longer afraid to play an open A maj chord! It's like I traded a Kia for a Porsche! Seriously. Best bang for the buck ever!

I installed one of these on my 01' MIM stratocaster. I've never replaced the nut on a guitar before, but I watched 5 or 6 vidoes on youtube about how to do it. It didn't seem particularly difficult so I gave it a shot. It was a simple install. It didn't drop right in though. I did have to remove the little tab in the middle. I also had to scrape the bottom edges a little with my pocket knife to get it to fit in the slot.
I had been having trouble with some of my strings buzzing slightly when played open. it was mainly the g and b strungs. I think it was because the slots in the original nut were flat there was no tilt toward the headstock for a clean point of string contact. The new tusq nut however has a slant to the whole top of the nut. The new nut solved solved the problem entirely. I also didn't have to deepen the slot to get the nut action right, so if that's a concern don't let it stop you. After I installed it I filed the nut edges. It's just slightly wider than the neck. I did it with a fingernail file and now it feels as comfortable as the old nut did!
The strings don't bind now, and they also tune easier now. I also have graphtech string saddles, and between the two of these products there has been a marked improvement in tuning stability. There is a slight change in tone. The notes seem slightly more articulate. Overall great product thank you graphtech

                              Great Nut

Upgrading your nut can significantly impact your guitar's tone, intonation, action and play-ability...and this nut dramatically improved all of those for me.
I got this to replace a cheap, plastic nut that came with a neck I bought on eBay for my Tele "parts-caster". Pre-filed slots were perfect spacing and depth, completely eliminated the buzzing and intonation issues I had with previous nut. While I did lightly file the sides to fit (which is no big deal) I left the tongue on bottom in tact as the action was just right. But if you did want a lower action you could file this down no problem.
Considering I'll never have to replace this again, $15 is a steal
