Sturdy and Lightweight Portable Stand, Great for Portable Church

Comments about Hamilton KB50 Folding Music Stand:

I compared several portable music stands (ruling out inexpensive beginner-type stands) and found the KB50 to be the lightest weight in it's class. I ultimately purchased several KB50 stands for a portable church, and one for myself and never regretted it.

The only downsides are that the stand is chrome (if you want black) - easily remedied with black gaffer's tape, and the tilt angle is fixed. But I have always been able to work with the fixed tilt angle and the reduction in weight is worth the trade-off. Also, because there is not a hinge, several of the trays stack tightly, minimizing storage space. Hinged stands with greater tilt angle would not pack so tightly.

Comments about Hamilton KB50 Folding Music Stand:

I am a fan of Hamilton stands because they are lightweight. I am a drumer and have some of their cymbal stands which hold up just fine even with heavy cymbals on them.

For some reason this stand's height adjustment does not hold securely and will slip with too much weight on it. THis stand WILL slip with heavy books on it.

THe stand is also a fixed angle (cannot be tilted). The description should mention this! I knew that it was a fixed angle when I purchased it.

The attachment on the back of the trap is a simple loop of sheet metal that the stand slips into. It is not well formed and the tray wobbles because of the poor fit. It is clear that the flimsy sheet metal loop will tear with excessive use.

I had high hopes for this stand because of reviews and the Hamilton name but I would never buy another one and it will live in my practice space where it will never be moved or adjusted.

For the price you are better off getting something else.

Comments about Hamilton KB50 Folding Music Stand:

As a recording drummer and guitarist, sometimes we end up in orchestra pits and stage areas which are poorly lit and incapable of handing a full sized Manhasset stand and desk. No question these are wonderful stands, but at the prices offered today, unaffordable by most of us. My generation remembers the fairly inexpensive, and somewhat flimsy, Hamilton folding stands that would pack down into our instrument cases for lessons and at school. The desk of this stand mounts solid, and is wide enough for even a large songbook, like a Beatles anthology or whatever. I even have a dual LED clip lite which is battery powered attached to the top center, and a 2" wide binder clip to hold books open if needed. I am using three of this stand exclusively in my home studio, for pleasure playing with friends and collegues, and in the course of my student lessons. On the road there is always one packed with either the guitar cabs or in my percussion hardware rolling bag. These are great all-around stands that will serve you for years.

Comments about Hamilton KB50 Folding Music Stand:

I've owned this stand for several years. It is very durable and has not once slipped or tipped over. I use it with music books that are hundreds of pages. I even clamp on a gooseneck utility light to shine light on my music. The angle is perfect and it does not adjust. That fixed angle makes it stable and compact. Another important feature that makes this stand very stable is that the triangle that forms with the legs meets at a higher point on the vertical pole than other stands. That makes it very stable and unlikely to tip over compared to the kind that the tripod legs intersect near the bottom. So you might be thinking, are the legs going to get in the way? Not a problem for me. If I have adequate space I can place the tripod base at any position. If I place the stand next to a wall I put two tripod legs against the wall and the third points toward me. Last, I also like that the stand holds the music forward of the upright pole by almost 3 inches. That gets the music closer to me as my keyboard is kind of deep and that makes it easier to read and flip pages. You'll be happy with this stand and probably last you forever.

Comments about Hamilton KB50 Folding Music Stand:

I asked the salesman if there was a stand that folded into a carrying case. He said no but one of my fellow musicians got one (Peak) that did. I would have preferred to have purchased that one then the Hamilton.
