Here's the deal: This stand is the BEST in the basket stand category period. It's worth spending the extra money and making sure that your drum isn't going to move around or tip over when you hit it hard. It's heavy duty, fully adjustable and even has carpet spikes that you can retract with an allen wrench.

I can deal with the fact that it doesn't come with instructions, as you can easily figure it out by looking at pictures on the web; however, what I cannot deal with is BLACK RUBBER MARKS on my beautiful wood finish after just 1 use!!!! You MUST put something over the rubber to protect your djembe. Depending on what you use, it may not grip the drum as well, so I must take away 1 star for this design flaw.

Yes it's expensive and you can buy the cheaper basket stand. But if you're a serious player you'll eventually end up buying this one anyhow, so just spring for it now.

It is a well made strong device, but it doesn't raise the Middle sized Drum up enough. It probably works best with the large or X-large drums. It doesn't have any instructions on how it goes together and although it is simple in design, a visual instruction page would be nice.

    Really nice Stand

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

I really love this stand. I'm a sitting player and it adjust to the perfect height for me on the shortest adjustment. I'm 5ft 4in. I have used the Remo circular type stand and when really hitting the drum it would walk away from me and also the drum would shift in the stand. Not in this one, nothing moves at all when hard hitting even on uneven surfaces. I play the 12in Remo Djembes and they fit in the stand real well. Worth every cent paid. My only gripe is that there were no instructions to put together or adjust so I had to get on Musicians Friend to check out the picture. Also if you dont like the spikes sticking out on the bottom of the feet they can be adjusted further in to the feet from the top of the gripper pads by putting the wrench included into the hole and turning. They cut my finger so I screwed them in all the way till flush with the bottom of the feet.

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

This is an excellent stand! It seems to be a conga stand, but they added three spacers to accommodate different djembe sizes. You'd be hard pressed to find a stronger and more professional looking stand on the market, at any price.

I have a 14" Remo djembe, and I can hit it as hard as I want, it won't move, either on the stand or move away on the floor as it used to do with my basket Remo stand.

Unfortunately, there is just one thing that has troubled me about this stand in the few days I've been using it. The three legs that support the djembe leave black marks on it. At first, I thought it was just because the stand was new, but after a few days, I noticed that the edges of the three nice looking ends of the stand were kind of wearing out. It gave me the impression that the black marks it was leaving on my djembe were really the edges of the rubber legs coming undone.

I'm just dumbfounded that Meinl would drop the ball with such a critical component of this stand. I really hope they would own this mistake and do some kind of recall and mail quality legs for those of us that bought their product-that's how you make raving fans of your customers. I also own a Meinl Cajon, and I'm beginning to wonder now if the quality on that particular item is also compromised.

Why you gave them 4 starts then, you are probably asking? Well, because I still think that it is a well-built stand, unfortunately, with a major flaw. I wrapped the tips of mine with rubber and had to thoroughly clean my djembe twice. I still think that it is worth it. Just be aware of this problem.

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

A nice step up from the basket stand I had before. It does not walk away from me with hard hitting, allows angling of the djembe, and was really easy to assemble. My drum is dark in color and I have not noticed it leaving marks on the drum as others have mentioned.

          A Good Buy

          By Osteopath

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

The Meinl djembe stand is worth the price. Very good quality and it is very sturdy. I use mine with a 12 inch Remo djembe and it does fine. Without the drum in place, I amusingly have a bad habit of stumbling over it. I have yet to see how cumbersome it will be to bring it to the local Hippy-Hill. I usually see the inexpensive Remo stand out there. My only little gripe that kept this review from a five star is that the stand did not come with any directions for assembly.

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

I own a large djembe and it would've been perfect for one a little smaller. My djembe is a 14" and though it will work the rubber pads could use a little adjustment, which this stand does not have. Other than that I'm very pleased with the unit. I would highly recommend it for a djembe 13" or smaller!

If you sit when you play, this stand is outstanding( no pun intended). It raises my two djembes to the height of my two congas, making the process of "moving around the pit" so easy and comfortable.

                Exellent stand to sit at...

                By Cheese

                from Tampa, FL

Comments about Meinl Steely II Djembe Stand:

Excellent stand to sit at, but unless you are very short you won't be able to stand at it. Really solid. I've tried the LP conga stands with my djembes and they moved a lot in them. This one holds them tight. All three legs are height adjustable, so lowering one leg will tilt your drum slightly away from you. The feet are wide, with small adjustable metal spikes in them. Nice feature. The only thing I wish it had that it don't is higher adjustment on the legs so you could stand at it. On my wood drums, such as my LP Giovanni Djembe, the stand didn't choke the drum at all. On my Meinl Floatune Fiberglass Djembe, I found that it choked it just a bit. But nothing to be concerned about.
