This case would be ideal for a beginner class or other lightweight model banjo. The only neck support that this case offers is at the base of the neck just above the heal. If this case is dropped with a heavier banjo inside of it, the neck could break. The exterior strength, as previously mentioned, isn't all that great. It gives under moderate pressure. So if something we dropped onto the case, anything inside of it is going to feel the hit as well. The hardware seems to be OK. The locks secure the lid down firmly. Again, this case would be good for a lightweight banjo or cheaper model. It would even go well for someone who is going to be using this case for storage. The price is right, but just understand that the quality is affected somewhat when not spending as much money on other brands.
The features on this banjo case are pretty much standard on all banjo cases.
The exterior strength and protection is OK. It's nothing fantastic, but will hold up to light/moderate use.
The price is amazingly low. However, with "value" being more about what product your getting for the money spent, it's hard to rate this in the top of it's class. It's overall strength isn't great. The interior padding is someone hard and not forgiving.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
Very good value. Not a 200.00 case, but worth every penny I paid for it. So good that I just ordered another one today just in case I purchase another used banjo without a case, I'll have it.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
Solid protection for backup instrument. A little deeper than other cases which works out to accommodate the depth of the banjo. The only draw back is the lack of neck support at the peg head. I have inserted a dense foam block for this. Works great!
Pros
- Good Protection
- Sturdy
Cons
- Open Back Fits Poorly

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
Nicely made case, with good functional hardware. It fits a resonator banjo just fine, and could be used with an open back if you wanted to put some kind of foam padding to raise up the body of the banjo. Like another reviewer, I lowered the neck rest as much as I could (1")to make a better fit for the resonator model banjo. The neck rest piece can be removed by taking out 4 screws and several stick-pins that were obviously used to temporarily hold the neck rest in place.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
There are better cases, but for the money, this is a very good basic hardshell case. I can't believe they make any money at this price with free shipping.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
Where are all these 5 star reviews coming from? The neck rest was so high that my banjo wouldn't even fit in the case. I had to remove it and shave 1/2" off the bottom so my banjo would fit properly.
Just proves that you get what you pay for.

Wonderful case. I especially like the section in the middle that opens up where you can put your picks, tuner, capo, etc. I haven't encountered any problems yet and don't think I will anytime soon. Highly recommended.

Comments about Musician's Gear Deluxe Hardshell Banjo Case:
I just recently purchased a decent used, above entry level banjo (The Samick SB-3), and wanted to get a good hardshell case to protect it. I looked at several online, mostly on M.F., including some molded hardshell plastic types (which just didn't seem to fit the old-fashioned, down home bluegrass style/look, lol), but for the price, you just can't beat Musicians' Friend's house brand of these wooden hard cases. For the price, it feels like a case quite literally twice the price. I wouldn't have any qualms about taking it out and gigging with it. My banjo is quite heavy, and is a full size bluegrass 5 string banjo, and it fit just right and snug. I noticed a few reviews on other cases I was interested in (such as the Silver Creek model with the green "velvet" interior) had mention that some banjos wouldn't fit quite right...I don't think that would be an issue with most any banjo you want to put in this case.
