I happen to be one of those Grandparents; who's Grandkids just seem to love Grandpaw's musical instruments,so no matter how expensive or cheap they may be..instruments need protection!! I purchased this case for my Rogue "A" style Mandolin (which I also purchased at Musiciansfriend.com). I was amazed at how well it fitted to my Mandolin. The inside padding is much thicker and softer than I imagined from the pictures. The lid fits nice and snug against the bridge, and the material is soft enough to form itself to the shape of the top without too much pressure. This case even has a keyed lock on the center latch(that helps keep the kids out of it when you're not looking).
I would NOT recommend this case for the "F" style mandolin..the body would be a little too wide at the top. And of course if you have an expensive Mandolin ,like a Washburn or Gibson, You're gonna want to get a case specially made for that Brand Name instrument,(the big boys always have cases specially built to fit their instruments)
If you're a beginner or slightly experienced player..remember..You always look more professional when you show up with your instruments in a nice looking case...people wonder what ya got in there and can't wait till you open up the case.

When I received this case, it was in an oversized box. It gave the impression of being much bigger. I was a bit shocked at its small size. When I went to place my "A"-style mandolin inside of the case, the case was too small for my Rouge (inexpensive but lovingly handled all the same.) I gently pressed the case and the mandolin finally fit...problem is, the top won't close properly. The hardware is cheap, and actually feels as if it will come off the sides of the case with very little assistance. The edging around the top, stiched to the top, is split, with an opening right under the hinge area supposed to secure the body of the mandolin.

To top it all off, there are six (6) stamped, half-moon shapes on the top of the case. Three (3) up near the nut and three (3) more down near the body where the locking mechanism is installed.

I have a great gig bag for the mandolin. When I saw this one on sale, I thought, "Great chance to add a little more protection." I was wrong. Sending it back is cost prohibative.

Thing is, I discovered Musician's Friend December last. I have ordered a passle of things from them...mainly sale items, or items that come with some other little extra tidbit. A majority of the time, and I am talking almost always, I get great deals and outstanding equipment for my ministry. This is really the first time when I have been this disappointed with a product. It is the first time I uncatagorically do not recommend a piece of equipment. Well...'nuff said.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I bought the mandolin case for a clients cheapo A-style mandolin.
Pro-It arrived much faster than I had expected. Come to think of it.. the shipping was free. Anyway, the case is nice with the hard-shell outside and the soft cushion inside. The mandolin fit perfect with no slop. The latches lined up well and stayed latched (no loose latches). I thought the price was reasonable at roughly 40.
Con- The top of the bridge was a bit higher than the top of the open case which caused the top of the case to rest on the bridge in a closed position.
Overall- This is a good case for a starter instrument. I gave a "Good" rating for the price and free shipping.

Good case, it is very sturdy and holds up well. It's light and easy to carry around. The only flaw is that the leather chips off if it ever gets hit with anything. So be careful camping with it!

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I actually bought a Guild mandolin gig bag from another vendor but it ended up being out of stock and it was going to take a while to come in. Good thing, because I checked here and found this hardshell for less money. The case is pretty typical plywood/tolex construction. I'm not sure about some of the negative reviews here, it is just like every other cheaper case of this construction. For the price you just can't go wrong. I wish I could get hardshell cases of the same quality for guitars at the same price. My Hohner A-Style Mando fits perfectly, a bit snug but that's a good thing.

Comments about Musician's Gear Hardshell A-Style Mandolin Case:

I am a beginner with the mandolin and was previously using a gig bag in lieu of a hardcase. I am very happy with this case, it fits my Rover RM-50B without issue. As other reviews have stated it is a tiny bit snug but I prefer this as the mandolin has no chance of sliding in the case and being damaged. To sum it up simply, this is a great case at a great price!
