I ordered this stand not expecting much. When I got it I noticed the superb quality. I bought it to mic my kick drum. The only thing is that the stand is about 3 inches too tall, so I cant stick the mic into the kick drum port. I may have to get a boom to add to the stand.

I personally think these stands are an ok buy IF you're willing to make some modifications to them. I bought two of them with intentions of putting boom arms on them. I expected them to have some quality issues but also figured that for the price, I'm willing to put a little time in to make them work. I had two main problems. First, the threads for the mic clip/boom arm weren't pressed into the tube well so they came loose immediately. To fix this I drilled a small hole through the tube and thread insert and stuck a pop rivet in there. Second, I found that the large thumb screw to secure the main tube to the base wasn't up to the task. I don't really need these to collapse all the way so rivets to the rescue again. I drilled through the plastic piece that holds the legs, into the main tube and popped it in there. (See the pictures) Those simple mod's took all of 10 minutes and now both stands are nice and solid. Long story short, if you want a stand that's going to be solid out of the box, pay more money. If you want to save a little cash and have the time/tools to do the mod's then this stand is an ok choice.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

This mic stand is great for the price, but there's one major problem with it. The topmost section, which consists of the threading for the mic clip and the part where it attaches to the main column of the stand, has begun to freely spin, leaving the mic open to movement during a recording or production, even when the mic clip is firmly screwed in. It is still usable, but is quite annoying. Other than that it serves its purpose.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

Great mic for outside kick, guitar amps that are close to the ground, and anything tabletop. Doesn't extend very high, maybe 18 inches max, but I can get an SM57 on the cone of a Fender Deluxe with both on the floor. Very sturdy.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

This is a decent short stand for the money. The screw that adjusts the center rod is less than smooth, but I feel it will probably function fine for my use miking a bass drum. Setting it up and tearing it down every night, might result in some stripped screws, but for 12 American currency units what does one expect to get. I mostly wanted it for a backup occasional use stand that is very portable and takes up very little space.

Purchased for the upright shaft to make a laser light extention for my wood lathe work (I am a wood artist). Diameter of the shaft was exact and adjustable height was right on target. Unit was also shipped fast. Thanks.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

This tripod base would not fit with my standard mike stand. I didn't realize there were compatibility issues for my post with a larger diameter. It is not worth the return shipping cost I would have to pay so off to Goodwill. Call someone at MF before purchasing this.

I love this mic stand, except that it is hard to use on my bass drum because of it's height... If you intend to use it on a bass drum you should plan on getting a boom arm for it....

Bought a pair of these to support two little Kustom personal powered monitors and get them up off the floor. They do the job very well and the price was right. Very satisfied.
