I ordered this stand not expecting much. When I got it I noticed the superb quality. I bought it to mic my kick drum. The only thing is that the stand is about 3 inches too tall, so I cant stick the mic into the kick drum port. I may have to get a boom to add to the stand.

I personally think these stands are an ok buy IF you're willing to make some modifications to them. I bought two of them with intentions of putting boom arms on them. I expected them to have some quality issues but also figured that for the price, I'm willing to put a little time in to make them work. I had two main problems. First, the threads for the mic clip/boom arm weren't pressed into the tube well so they came loose immediately. To fix this I drilled a small hole through the tube and thread insert and stuck a pop rivet in there. Second, I found that the large thumb screw to secure the main tube to the base wasn't up to the task. I don't really need these to collapse all the way so rivets to the rescue again. I drilled through the plastic piece that holds the legs, into the main tube and popped it in there. (See the pictures) Those simple mod's took all of 10 minutes and now both stands are nice and solid. Long story short, if you want a stand that's going to be solid out of the box, pay more money. If you want to save a little cash and have the time/tools to do the mod's then this stand is an ok choice.

Great drum mic stand

By Anonymous

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

I have this great little stand in my home studio, with a flexible gooseneck on it for positioning on guitar cabs floor toms or snare drums. Every drummer could benefit from having a few of these!

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

This mic stand is great for the price, but there's one major problem with it. The topmost section, which consists of the threading for the mic clip and the part where it attaches to the main column of the stand, has begun to freely spin, leaving the mic open to movement during a recording or production, even when the mic clip is firmly screwed in. It is still usable, but is quite annoying. Other than that it serves its purpose.

Cons

Best Uses

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

I used this mini-stand to support the individual-sized monitors that Behringer and Mackie sell. All individuals in my group perform sitting down, so this makes the monitor the perfect height, and leaves out the extra price of buying a boom. Price is extremely reasonable for a relatively durable product.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

How can you not be satisfied. For the cost and compact ability it's a no brainer. Have not used them long term yet. But for the cost even if they break in a year, it would cost what 50 cents a show. They feel just as strong and as sturdy as full size stands I've paid double or triple the cost of these little things.

Will do for my purpose...

Pros

  • Solid enough construction

Cons

  • Quality control

Best Uses

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

Bought to mic my guitar/bass cabinets. Construction is solid enough, however quality control is a little lacking. Stand leans noticeably due to one leg brace being less than precisely aligned. But for the price, can't really complain too much about that. Will work fine for my purpose, though the lean bugs me.

Comments about Musician's Gear Low Profile Tripod Base Mic Stand:

I sit to perform (having reached "a certain age"), and hate having stands between me and people in the front "row" (I am seldom on stage and instead have folks just a few feet away from me, on the floor). This is ideal. Screw on a gooseneck and you're good to go. It weighs very little, a nice bonus.

It is more stable than the weight base I have.
