Picked this up on sale, and it's excellent for the price. Obviously has some limitations (not real heavy, lacks some adjustments), but if you need some type of boom versus just a pole stand, and are not abusive with your equipment, this stand should work well with a not too heavy mic. I have a DR Pro and there is a significant difference in build quality, feel, and features, but the DR was five or six times more expensive. The DR will last longer, but the MS-220 is certainly worth the small amount of money.
As they tell you, there are limitations. The boom slides, but is not otherwise adjustable. For example, the boom does not extend. The counterweight is more cosmetic. Don't use a mic that weighs a ton.
Not built for really heavy duty use, but not bad. Haven't had this for a long time, so we'll see how long it holds up.
What else can you get for around this price?

Ok, I just had to post this after I made a surprising discovery. These stands are exactly the same as the similar Pro-Line model. I own both brands. I bought the Pro-Line several years ago. Recently I purchased the Musician's Gear, which came with a Shure mic and cable package.
The cost difference is about twenty @#%^& each between the two. The Pro-Line costing more.
I completely dis-assembled both mic stands to see if there was any difference. And there is absolutely none. They are exactly the same down to the rubber feet on the ends of the legs. Neither of these brands is absolutely road worthy, because of too much plastic in the mounts and clamps. However, I've used the Pro-Line for many years with no problems. Of course, I take good care of my equipment. If you abuse ANYTHING in music equipment, it will fail. So, don't gripe because YOU, or some idiot performer breaks it. These are good stands for those of us who aren't filthy rich, and have to work hard for every penny we get to spend on equipment. No, they're not the best, but you really do get what you pay for many times. Buy these,.... and don't spend an extra twenty @#%^& each on the Pro-Line. They're exactly the same thing.

Stand needs more weight at the bottom, to prevent tipping, and a sturdier screw on the bottom to hold the legs.

Good quality for the price. These were originally part of a mic package deal and I did not receive them. Talked to Royce at MF and explained that they weren't packaged with the mics. Not only did he get them shipped out ASAP, I was credited for the amount of the stands. AWESOME Customer Service!!!

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Fixed Boom:

I have one of these and one of the Pro-Lines sitting on either side of my computer table. They are the identical product, save one difference (even from the picture on this website). Instead of the metal bar twist at the axis point between the stand and the arm, it has a plastic twist. It's not a huge deal and for 20 less, I'm perfectly satisfied.

Is it the be all and end all of stands? No, of course not. Is it serviceable and stable? Yes. Is it cheap? Yes. If you're gearing up (aka, buying a new stand every other week to go with new mics, like I seem to be doing) and need something that will hold a mic without much cost or fuss, this is the ticket.

I bought one of these a few years ago, on a whim, and was very impressed. It was better than the Proline stands I had also bought (and I believe it was cheaper than this current impostor.) UNFORTUNATELY, now it seems, they have changed their manufacture. It's now EXACTLY like the horrible PROlines, that I hate, and want to replace. Now I begin the search to find a stand like the one I got a few years ago under this same brand name. It is a great stand, and I want more of them.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Fixed Boom:

Broke after three months of use. I gig regularly, and have spent all kinds of money on different microphone stands. None seem to hold up. I am not tough on my equipment. Everything else I own is in great shape and has lasted for several years. The plastic parts on the microphone stands are the parts that always break. If anyone could please recommend a good, sturdy stand, please do. Thank you.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Fixed Boom:

If you have read my previous review of this product, please ignore it. I originally got the "two for one" from a sale. There was issues, so I had to rob parts from one to make one fully functional mic stand. Because of this I gave it a negative review, assuming that if I returned it I would have to foot the bill and since the price was so low it would not have justified the replacement.

I was incorrect. The folks at musicians friend contacted me directly, sent me a replacement and a return shipping label. They also kept in contact through the process to ensure satisfaction.

THAT friends, is excellent customer service, the like of which you don't see these days.

And, specific to the quality of this product, it is great. Coupled with the Sure SM48LC mics, my band's practice studio has the hookup that works great anddidn't break the bank.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Fixed Boom:

NOTE: the mic stand I received is not the one pictured here. The one I got has plastic knobs all around and the base/leg attach point is stamped sheet metal, not a plastic housing.

Pretty good for it's price but kind of flimsy and tippy. I have to sand bag the legs when I got a heavy condenser at the end of the boom with it extended just a little bit. Vertically it works just fine, with the boom extended you need some additional weight on the legs to keep it from tipping over. I like how it folds up into a compact form factor for easy storage. It jiggles around somewhat and is not your rock solid mic stand, for my purposes as a vocal booth mic stand in the studio it fills the bill but onstage it would be a disaster.

If you want to spend a little as possible and still hold a microphone where you need it, this will do it. It would be a pleasure, however, to have a mic stand that is more sturdy and made with heavier, better parts.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tripod Mic Stand with Fixed Boom:

My primary concern is that it does not seem robustly built. I have loaded mine up with an iPad on a clamp for lyrics as well as a mic. I definitely needed to aim the off-center load at one of the legs for stability.
Second, I think MF has done themselves a disservice by not clearly showing that the boom is adjustable. It just does not have the secondary inner tube that the more sophisticated booms have. The photo and description leave out any evidence of the knob that controls the position of the boom within the angle adjuster. They shouldn't call it a fixed boom. It isn't.
Third, I am worried that over time the legs will not lock in the way they do now, but of course nothing bad has happened in the week I have owned it.
