Works fine to mic a floor tom...

Features:

Fixed length boom, but it's a workable length... you've got to take a big jump up in price to get a telescoping boom... but you probably don't really need one.

It actually much smaller than it looks in the picture... in the picture the base looks huge, but it is actually "mini" although the base is cast heavy pig iron, so it is stable enough for the average dynamic mic.  I bought it to mic the floor tom with a Sennheiser MD 421 and it works just fine for that.  Probably would work fine for snare or a guitar amp as well, but not for higher rack toms.  By the way, for guitar amps I've been using those little tripod jobbies they sell here, and they work fine if you cab is within say 2 feet up from the ground.

On-Stage makes some pretty inexpensive, but quality gear - this stand is no exception.  I recently purchased it as part of an auction on eBay and it is fantastic.  It's very well-built, durable, and does exactly what I need it to.  I've used it in both live and recording situations to support and position mics on everything from snares and kicks to guitar rigs.  The base has less of a 'footprint' than other stands (and can therefore be put in more convenient places), yet heavy enough to keep the microphone where it needs to be without tipping over like other stands of its size.  The boom can extend and the 'T' assembly is identical to other On-Stage mic stands. All in all, this is just a terrific stand; I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.  (Plus, it doesn't even come near to breaking the bank...enjoy!)
