Comments about Pearl B150S Convertible Flat-Based Cymbal Boom Stand:

Recently bought a vintage Gretsch 4 piece kit and I've been looking at all the new flat base hardware from DW, Pearl, Gibraltar and Ludwig for ease of transport. All these brands seem to be good quality, but some seem a little over priced. What drew me to this mini boom is the legs which are convertible from a traditional flat base to high leg for more stability/ placement options. So far I've been using it with the boom 2/3 extended and the legs in flat base mode for a 22" Paiste ride cymbal. While clearly not as stable as a double braced boom, I've experienced no issues with wobbling or movement. I plan to buy another for a crash cymbal. The chrome finish is high quality too as is the cymbal tilter.

Comments about Pearl B150S Convertible Flat-Based Cymbal Boom Stand:

I was ready to reduce some weight in my gigging hardware bag and this has helped. I've used it on rock and jazz gigs and it has held just fine. Granted if you pummel your equipment or try to stand on them, you should probably look elsewhere... For the gigging drummer, these are great. On the rock gig I did notice my ride (20 K Custom) was bouncing quite a bit but I had the boom extended. On the jazz gig I was using a 22 K Constantinople so I moved the stand closer to me, which meant the boom was not extended as far and it worked great. I used the previous stands for 20+ years so I'm hoping these will last just as long. So far they seem well built and adjust easily. I'm considering picking up a couple more!

Comments about Pearl B150S Convertible Flat-Based Cymbal Boom Stand:

I replaced my bulky, heavy, double-braced cymbal stands with these Pearl Flat-Based 150 series stands, and they do the exact same job for about half the weight. They take up so much less space when folded up that I was able to move into a smaller hardware trunk, making a big difference because I'm gigging a lot! I flipped over the base part of the stands, rather than use them flat-based. The legs reach down elegantly from the center, enabling me to arrange my six stands easily and close to each other. They don't fight over floor space the way my clumsy double-braced stands did. As an ergonomic minimalist, I LOVE THESE STANDS! They look great and have all the 'little features' (toothless cymbal tilter, big shoes, threadless spindle tip, coarse-threaded wing bolts) on a lightweight but sturdy steel body. The only thing that I replaced was the plastic wing nuts, as I preferred my tubular steel 'torpedo' wingnuts. I'm wondering why we think we need all thatdouble-bracing. Unnecessary weight!
