I purchased several of these stands about 4 years ago to use in our Music Academy ... kids lessons, performances, etc. I must say, we've never experienced any of the problems described here and I would definitely purchase more stands if needed. I will say that the stands are pretty heavy-duty and sturdy, a feature good for use in dedicated space. Although it isn't the standard Manhasset all-metal, been around for decades, tried-and-true, for the money I don't think you can find a better stand. That said, if I were gigging more, I would probably choose a stand that didn't weigh as much as this one does ... who wants to tote around a heavy stand when there are lighter, suitable options. Conceivably, the plastic handles could be damaged but they are pretty substantial and, in my experience, they'd have to be handled pretty roughly in order for that to happen. Don't know if the other reviewer had a bad batch from the factory - entirely possible - or if the quality has changed since my purchase. In the end, I would purchase again and really like the stand for what we use them for ... and it sure saved over the Manhasset's, which are a standard tradition in the Classical/Jazz world I come from. They're sturdy like Manhasset but entirely portable - the best of both worlds in my opinion.

After using the stand for several years (about 4 performances per year) the cam handle on the upper tube broke. This appears to be a common issue. When I asked for parts ... "Unfortunately we do not offer replacementparts or kits. If you are witin our 5 year warranty, take the unit back to the origional place of purchase for an exchange. Sincerely, Proline support." I guess these are made to be disposable.

Comments about Proline GMS80A Conductor Sheet Music Stand:

I needed a new Music Stand to replace the flimsy fold up one I'd been using for years. I saw this on the "Stupid Deal" and bought it. The major problem with this stand as delivered is the top flops. The section where it connects to the base has a gap that is a bit too large, the top part of the base is hollow and has 2 neopreme washers that can just slip inside. It's like they just cut a short piece of thin walled pipe, spot welded it and painted it black. I had to bend in the ears on the top with a pair of pliars to get it tight enough to even stay up. Using some washers inside the hollow connector at the top of the stand will help stabalize it firther. A friend has an older one and it's NOT like this. I probably should have just returned it but I needed a stand and this was cheap, so I just fixed it. Time will tell if the latches on the base hold up, if I get a few years out of it it'll be worth it. For the price, it's "ok" IF you don't mind modifying it, but as it arrived (at least the one I received) it was worthless. If I'b paid full price, one star would have been generous.

Comments about Proline GMS80A Conductor Sheet Music Stand:

I bought one of these a couple of years ago to use at home and while playing out. It's light weight and sturdy and stays in position even with a heavy 3 inch 3 ring binder songbook on it. I liked it so much I bought 6 more for an organization that holds 6 weekend retreats each year.
These last 6 look identical to my original but these are flimsy. The locking cams don't close nearly as snugly and 1 drops to its lowest position with anything heavier than a sheet of paper. The platform that holds music is precarious at best. No matter how tight it is tightened it falls backwards with my songbook on it.
I called PROLINE and they said it sounded like a manufacturing defect and to return them.
I can only recommend purchasing this at your own risk.
Not very confidence inspiring.

I used this stand for about 3 years, about 15 gigs each year. Then the lever that secures the table stopped working. I stuff a business card into the tube to make it work. Guess I'll try On Stage stands!

Comments about Proline GMS80A Conductor Sheet Music Stand:

The push down levers were the first to break, and this should have been a sign to get a backup. Then the "cheap quality"plastic parts broke on the main legs rendering it useless just before my gig.I should have read the other reviews before buying.

Fittings not at tight as I'd prefer, but at a Stupid Deal price (about half), it was a great deal and will come in handy when I need an extra music stand. These things are also handy to use as a table for percussion accessories.... just get a black towel and fold it to fit the stand and you've got a great place for tambourines, shakers, and all the other noise makers we sometimes use for shows.

Comments about Proline GMS80A Conductor Sheet Music Stand:

Unfortunately this music stand was not usable until I made a major modification. The tilt adjustment for the music holder cannot tighten tight enough. Very poor design once I took it apart. I play in 2 groups, one is a big band with a folder full of 100 pieces of sheet music and the stand will not hold it without the music holder portion slowly creeping to a vertical position. It's not stripped, it's just that there are 2 pieces of rubber on either side of the adjuster that have to tighten up to each side of sheet metal pieces and the rubber slowly slips. The other band I play in is a wedding cover band and I use 1-2 binders of music and set lists. Again, the part of the stand that holds the music just cannot hold the binders in position. Again, they creep to vertical because it slips along the rubber pieces. My solution was to drill a hole in the head of the adjuster (the round head at the end of the top pole insert), then drill 2 separate holes in the sides of the sheet metal near where the original tightener goes. Then instead of a screw adjuster, I simply slip a two inch long 3/10" thumbscrew through the round head and the holes I drilled then I secure the end of the thumbscrew with a wingnut to hold the angle of the music holder in place. It gives me only 2 positions that way, vertical and the level of tilt I prefer, but at least I didn't have to throw it away. And luckily, it was on SDOD.

I have owned 2 of these for a number of years. They are great. Tough, easily adjusted, withstands folding and transport well. I ordered another, which is when the trouble started. On the new one, the tilt could not be tightened sufficiently to keep the desk portion from toppling over and dumping your music off. Exchanged it for a new one. Same problem, plus a new one - the clamp for the main vertical portion won't clamp tight enough, so your music sinks slowly down to the lowest position. After 2 tries, I am done. Returned for a refund.

One of my bandmates has an older version of this stand and it's solid. However, the quality control of these stands has really gone downhill in the last couple of years. I went through two of these before giving up on these. The clutch mechanisms barely hold the stand in place and will obviously wear out in short order. Also, no matter how hard I tightened the top portion of the stand it wouldn't get tight enough to hold even a music binder of modest weight. Another bandmate has ordered these recently and experienced the same problems. Don't buy this stand!

This music stand is excellent in all degrees except that it is very difficult to lock the nut holding the music stand itself in position. If it is not locked, it will roll over in a second and dump your music all over the floor. I had to use an adjustable wrench to get this thing tight enough to avoid this irritation. Finger tightening isn't nearly enough to make it stable.

You are changing the Ship-To country.

Our product catalog varies by country due to manufacturer restrictions. If you change the Ship-To country, some or all of the items in your cart may not ship to the new destination.
