While I agree that we need another source for these cables, there are things you can do to prolong the life of this important piece of gear. I have the cable that came with my GR-33 and admitedly it is much more fragile than a standard guitar or good quality mic cable these days. However, I found that the biggest problem was that the grounding of the cable housing was done through the same screw that is used to hold the end together, and these loosen almost immediately and cause all kinds of problems like snaps, pops, and "going microphonic" due to the bad ground. Luckily, I am a tech as well, and it was an easy fix to solder a good ground to the cable end housing adn the ground lead in the cable, bypassing the screw, and rendering the cable clean and noise-free. I've been playing out over two years now part-time, and practicing weekly, and though it requires more care, the same cable is still working great. Check the ground and fix it and I believe many of the problems will go away (short of a broken pin or step-on end).

Comments about Roland GKC 13-Pin Cable:

I purchased a GR-55 and have always used Roland Keyboards, but being a guitarist, I wanted synthesizer sounds from my guitar. I eventually made the purchase and within 6-8 weeks my cable kept falling out of the jack on my Godin xtsa. I love the synth! It is awsome! Now I am stuck spending another. I only play in my little home studio. I have M.S., so I didn't step on it. I am also surprised that no other companies make this cable. My positive suggestion would be that Roland engineers take another shot at the design. I will be glad when my new cable gets here. I just bought a new mixer, keyboard controller and Propellerhead Reason 8. Time to place my order for my cable. Thank You Musician's Friend.I love being able to shop and recieve shipments at home. It is really difficult when handicapped.

Comments about Roland GKC 13-Pin Cable:

This is for Roland information! I Purchase my first GR1 Synthesizer in the 90's. Personally all the GR's that followed did not compare to the GR1. Roland PLEASE MAKE A REPLACEMENT. I have purchase 3 used ones over the years. The main weak link has always been the GKC 13-PIN CABLE. They must be used with extreme care. I always loop it around my guitar shoulder strap but after many years of doing this I realize to give the cable a longer life "leave it straight." Don't even store in your bag with tight bends!

Comments about Roland GKC 13-Pin Cable:

I thought I would save money by buying the cheap knockoff and 2 months later I noticed that the synth was triggering notes that I didn't play. I thought it was my settings or the synth at first until I jiggled the cable and it triggered notes on it own (short). Now I have the good cable and I noticed right away that the signal was solid and the midi had nano latency.

Comments about Roland GKC 13-Pin Cable:

If you want to use a Roland guitar synth, you need a 13 pin cable. I have 3, only 1 works now. The options are limited, as it's a Roland Synth specific format. Not nice that they keep the price so high, or don't make them better to last. 1 came with the synth, bought one more for back up, then a long one for some shows. The two shorter ones now don't work. One broken one always sends a pitch change message, the other sends no single on the A string. The 30 foot still works, and it gets the most live show abuse, go figure. But the options are limited, time to buy a 10 footer for the studio, and a back up 20 footer for live. The show must go on, just love my sythn to much to give up, but can't stand paying this much for 'disposable cables'

I purchased this because the 15 foot was out of stock. This is WAY to long and I'm not happy with it at this length.

The cable does the job, for a while. Connects your guitar synth to the GR. Problem is (and this is in a climate controlled studio) I have had to replace it twice due to one of the pins going bad. Someone (mogami?) should build a gold plated roadworthy version of this cable.

Comments about Roland GKC 13-Pin Cable:

My GR 20 cable gave out after just 3 months of very gentle studio use. Thought it was the pin solder joints on the board where the connectors are soldered. Went through every solder joint with a powerful magnifier...both for the sound module and the pickup connector. No luck. Then through other reviews posted decided it must be the cable itself. A continuity check with a high quality meter revealed severe resistance issues in all six of the string connections and the ground. I've got the locking type connection terminations and believe they are the culprit. It torques the pins quite a bit when you have to press the locking button down and pull the cord loose. I've ordered a third party replacement to use that is non-locking and will be used with new GR 55 unit. Hope that fixes it. I've got an old Korg guitar synth that has a rectangular plug with metal housing...very tough... for the hexaphonic pickup and guess what...after almost 20 years it hasn't malfunctioned. I believe this is what Roland should emulate to correct this issue as it is widespread and definitely unsavory to the recording musician.
