Personally, these strings are not for me and my genres and the way I play, however, they are still fantastic strings. The one thing I don't like about them is that they only do one thing. This is a really big bass warm upright round sound. No slapping, no high trebly solos. They only really do that well, but if you are into slow jazz or generally,a low, slow bassline these are the best strings ever, really. They may only do this one sound, but in this, they are peerless.

I was really excited to get this strings based on the reviews I had read. Cons: The 5 string on my bass has NO sound at all. Feels like paper when I pick it. I have a rather heavy padouk wood bass guitar (6.5 kg) so it doesnt even begin to resonate it (unlike the strings I had before). Note that they are slower than usual set. Need some time to get used to. CAREFUL WITH THE NECK (not so low tension, I guess). And they are expencive. Pros: All the other strings really work great. Everything you read in the best reviews. Wide range of sounds, fromsoft growly sound to more attacky pop-funk grooves , no problem. Get it for a 4 string, thou, not 5 (if your bass is heavyer than average). Great feel thou! I like them...play less 5th now.

Great Strings

By Truckstopdave

from Russell Springs, Kentucky

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I bought these for my fretless bass. They sound fabulous. They have a upright sound to them. A very mellow and "yeah" sound to them. I recommend them to anyone who plays jazz or laid back music. They would work for Radiohead sounding rock, folk, and some bluegrass.

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I recently replaced a set of Elixir strings (wich were an absolutly horrible waste of money unless you like your strings to "shed") with a set of these and they are the best set of strings I have ever played on. I have 20 years as a bass player and 4 basses so I have the experiance to tell me when I have found a quality product and this is it! I put them on my 5 string with 2 Seymour Duncan Jazz pickups and got that sweet smooth jazzy slide and snap that can be so hard to find in a set of strings. If you want the flat wound feel with the round wound sound then pick these up. You will not be disapointed!

Great strings, value

By Busby

from Baldwin, KS

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I use mainly elixers for my 5-string, I love elixirs they are amazing (although a little pricy). I was going to try out some rotosounds and accidentally orders these black nylons. I was amazed, these are not just jazz/blues strings. They deliver a great tone. They sound especially sweet when using distortion and a wah. My only complaint is that they have a distinct tone. This tone isnt always the best for metal on the lower strings. Lastly I would like to say that these feel really cool and really weird. Try these strings out they're a great value!

Fretless Acoustic-Electric Bass

By 5-String Fretless

from North Monmouth, ME

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I purchased a Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5-String Fretless and the brass strings that came with the guitar soon started to mark the neck. After the first scar the strings came off and I started searching for the perfect strings I knew flatwound strings were in order. Rotosound promises ?Super smooth with ultra low tension transforms any electric bass into a jazzy upright sound. Works great on fretless? and they certainly deliver on that promise. I bought this guitar to get an upright sound and with these strings it is a perfect combo. You will not believe how smooth these strings are until you try them.

I have a 1975 ovation magnum I. and it came with flatwound strings so I wanted another set. I was looking for a nice set of strings and once I saw these nylons I had to get them. So I ordered them. These nylons have a great acoustic sound to them, and me being mostly an upright player fell in love. Overall great clear sound, sick look, good price.

Fat Sound!!!

By Bigbottom5

from Wild Wonderful West Virginia

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I have been using these for a little over a year now. they have the fattest low end sound of any strings I have ever used. the B string really talks to floor... and the walls... and the glassware. And they still have plenty of midrange and high end punch. Great strings, just a little pricey.

Great for fretless

Comments about Rotosound RS885LD Trubass Black Nylon Flatwound Strings:

I bought one of the 135 guage strings because my usual brand (Fender tapewounds) weren't available in that guage, and my bass is strung B-E-A-D, like a 5-string missing the highest pitched string, .135-.110-.092-.072Next string change I am going to the Rotosounds, even with the price. The Rotosound string sounds richer than the Fenders. If you're still playing roundwounds, trying flats is risky because I could never go back. I'm primarily a rhythm guitarist who plays some bass, and I even play flats on my Blueshawk.

Took the old damaging round wounds off of my 5 string; Added these nylons and what a difference it makes. Sound is superb if you want ambient tone, double bass style, or jazz. Definitely not good for slapping or hard rock however. I highly recommend these strings. Rotosound quality remains the standard.
