These strings are the best I have ever used,in fact they are the only strings I have used for the last 3 years.I have been playing bass for 32+ years, and these strings are incredible. They start off very "bright" for flatwounds, and play in real smooth. They sound almost like roundwounds, but don't chew up the fretboard like rounds do.Yeah they cost a bit more than some, but they are worth it, and last a LONG time before sounding dead.

Like most, I dig Steve Harris and had to try out the Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Bass Strings. The strings sound smooth/rich and are easy to play. However, I had to adjust my Truss Rod and saddles to accommodate the size of these strings. Additionally, I use an original p-bass bridge and if is tilted, the E-string will fall out of the saddle. Keep it level at least for the E. I also had issues with keeping tension using a HipShot.

Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I received Steve's signature bass back in 2010 and it had these strings. I thought I would immediately capture his sound - finally! Wrong. These things are difficult to manage and no matter what amount of truss rod adjustment and/or bridge adjustment I did I could not get the action low enough for me and I could not stop that A string fret buzz. I was very disappointed and eventually made it a player with some quality round wounds.

Heavy, thick, crunchy Flat wounds.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
I'm curious how many people actually like these strings vs. the amount of people who like the strings just because Steve Harris uses them.
For starters, these strings are very thick. I typically use medium gauge roundwounds and I found these strings to be huge in comparison. In addition, these strings are also very stiff and tight. This combination made playing even simple basslines very challenging. I couldn't even begin to attempt actual Iron Maiden basslines because my fingers would cramp up (something no other string had done before or since).
Another issue with these strings are that they are flatwound. Yes. Steve Harris uses them and manages to get a very bright tone, but what many people don't know is that he uses a new set for every gig. If you're expecting to have Steve's tone for months on end then think again because the brightness only lasts for a week or two and is gone, leaving you with a very old school 'thump' sound. That said, the old school sound these strings give is very good, but once again these strings are very stiff and hard to play which makes them useless if you play fast music.
Overall, I've owned two sets of these strings and simply don't care for them. For the price you are better off spending your money on a different set of strings. Try a set of Chromes if you want some bright sounding flats. They're cheaper and, in my honest opinion, a much better set of strings.

I got these strings for x-mas for my epiphone thunderbird and at the time I was in a Punk band and it wasn't after two mins of playing with my band that I saw how hard it was playing punk with these strings. One year later I'm with a Post-hardcore band and I still had these strings on my thunderbird and if these strings are in drop-d there awsomeand all I have to say is this: There good for metal but not for punk.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Always used round-wounds and was against the sound of the (cheaper) flat-wounds. Recently purchased a new Steve Harris P-Bass. These strings are amazing! My fingers no longer get chewed up. They sound amazing and play fast. I A/B my bass with my friend's Steve Harris P-Bass (his had round-wounds)Through the same amp and my friend couldn't believe how well the Rotosound's sounded and played. I am sold. Excellent.

these are pretty sweet. the action isn't to heavy and they play very smoothly. but they just arent for me. flat wounds are a whole other world of playing. Note bends slides tapping are very difficult with these strings. Im big on bending notes so I will have to restring once again.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
Never have I used flatwounds on a bass "guitar" before. The last time I felt flats was in high school , When I played double bass in the jazz band. I've played all genres of music my whole life, but deem myself a metal head. Alwsys loved Steve's sound. Needed a new set of strings on one of my old "p's" , thought I'd give 'em a shot. WOW! Changed the sound and feel TOTALLY from the RS66's that it had on it. Had to change the setup some to compensate for the heavy guage, but well worth it. However, I would not recommend them for replacements on just any bass if you're used to rounds. You might be upset. But if you like Steve Harris' sound, and own a P- bass, BUY THEM.
Comments about Rotosound SH77 Steve Harris Signature Flat Wound Bass Strings:
For years now I have struggled with blisters on my right (plucking) hand since I play metal with my fingers...but no more! They are so smooth and while a heavier gauge than I normally play, still very easy to play. I can get the punchiest tone ever with these strings, and also an amazing "piano" tone.
