This metronome is simple, easy to use and loud enough for violin.

I love the volume control because I can make it loud when I'm practicing with other instruments and soft when I'm alone. I also like the 2 tone choices it has which sound more like they come from a wooden metronome than an electronic one. One tone is higher than the other, and although other reviewers say the higher one is like a beep, I disagree, it is just a higher pitched wooden block sound.

I love the dial, it's so much easier to be able to quickly turn a dial to where you want it than other methods.

I loved everything about this metronome. We use it for one year with my 8 and 10 year old to practice piano. It was easy for them to set and run. The beep is not annoying, the casing is well build and fits on the piano music stand. Then 2 weeks after my one year warranty was up the switch broke, it did not drop and break, the case design protects it from that, it just snapped off. When I examined it half the size of the switch was actually attached to the plate, I was unable to glue it ( I have 4 kids, I am a glue queen). The gracious person in MF customer service submitted a warantee request for me. We will see what the manufacturer says about the aweful switch it decided to put on this otherwise well built metronome. My advice, buy the insurance.

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

This is well made. Has a volume control and two tones. One tone is like a wood block and the other is more like a beep. Comes with 9v battery. I like it. Simple to operate. You turn it on and it clicks. It's loud enough for practicing. I lower the volume.

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

if your a drummer this is not the way to go. its not that loud and its missing alot of numbers. on top of that i can only hear it out of one ear in my headphones. do yourself justice and go buy a digital of the same price that way if your recording like me you can have all of the numbers and u can hear it.

    Dude, seriously buy one!

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

Dude, for real, buy this because it will make you a better player to whatever instrument you are using. I initially was using this just for keyboard but I use it for guitar and bass as well and it has helped me beyond words. It'll make your timing on point, for realz. Trust me, and buy one.
This thing has helped my timing so much, it can't even be put into words.
    Pretty awesome.

    Non digital with a dial

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

I chose this one because I like to dial straight into a new tempo. I have used a digital one, and I don't like how long it takes to get to the new tempo. I know that it doesn't have every single number of beats per minute. I suppose someone who is really fussy would want the numbers half way between the numbers. Where would it really end? Seriously it is fine for most things. It works when I have a tempo in mind and I want to see what it is. I liked the sound of the clicks on the Yamaha sightly more, but I much preferred the design of this one. Also the volume control is a nice feature that not everything has. I do think that in general all these metronomes are slightly over priced. I think is will last a long time.

    Great Metronome

    By Piano Teacher

    from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

I use a Seiko SQ50-V Quartz metronome and recommend it to my piano students. A handy feature on the latest model is the volume control. I prefer the dial to a digital readout because you can instantly change speeds, and the last tempo is still there when you turn it back on.

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

Love this basic metronome for the vast majority of practice needs. I use an ipod app for specialized subdivisions, etc, but I love the basic Seiko 99% of the time. Has a choice between the wood block tone and the electronic sound - I have no interest in the electronic sound but it's an option if you prefer. It's loud when you want it, but adjusts lower so you don't have to wear out your ears with the loud tick for independent practice.

Comments about Seiko SQ50-V Quartz Metronome:

Good quality, plenty volume, but lacks the first beat emphases. For me that is important. I lose track of my count. So the sound of the first beat helps me stay on beat, I've been playing music for years, but learned by ear and feeling it. Now just going back to the basics learning how to count. Never used a metronome before. I must admit it's challenging.
