Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1b Alnico II Pro Bridge Humbucker:
I love them. Completely. If it were legal I would marry them.
I had the SD hot rodded set before these. Those weren't quite for me although there is no denying Seymour Duncans' quality of sound. The JB was too much in the mids for me and was too high output. The Jazz wasn't balanced enough, very bright.
What I love about these is their ability to sound awesome at any level of gain. Clean they are beautiful. Distorted they are dirty dogs. The bridge in particular handles gain in a way that stays true to the natural sound of the guitar but sounds really awesome even with high gain. This pickup can play multiple note chords with gain and hear every note. I also think that the balance of this pickup is fantastic, especially with regards to mids. It has enough to give real quality tone, without going overboard and really coloring the guitar's natural sound.
This pickup is ballsy, balanced, and beautiful. I have owned and tried a lot of pickups, I think I can stop searching.
And don't look at the description and think, "If I get these pickups I will be trying to sound like another artist that uses them." I thought that too, I didn't want to have just Slash's tone. These things are super versatile, not a carbon copy of an artists exact tone.
Pros
- Good Quality
- Great harmonics

I play a strat plus.I had a sh4 in place but the mids were to strong. this pickup has a beautiful tone.Nice balance. The harmonics are great.
Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1b Alnico II Pro Bridge Humbucker:
This bridge pickup has a completely awesome, unexpected tone. Warm, strong, chrome, gnarly, clean, its does it all. Despite the numbers, this is not a weak-sounding pickup, quite the opposite. Great for classic and heavy rock like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Metallica, (oh yeah, and Guns and Roses). The biggest surprise is I thought I was a JB pickup guy, but once I tried this one, i sold my JB. Its not all about high output (I've used blackouts and EMG 81 too), its about the quality and tone of your sound. I even tried Slash APH2, but liked the APH1 better. The alnico II magnet pulls your string less and provides more accurate sound, longer sustain, more overdrinven harmonics and overtones from your amp itself. Also great for palm muting, and most types of music. And sounds great clean too. Its that special sweet warm accurate sound that you've been missing in your other pickups. I've always used higher-output pickups, but having tried these by chance (i had a covered set in a new les-paul style guitar), I think I've been missing this great sound for years. I honestly can't believe how good the sound is, completely unexpected in a good way.
Zebra, 4 wire, open coil. Easy to install. I like this bridge APH1 slightly better than the neck APH1, but i use both in my guitar.
Top Quality Seymour Duncan, cannot be beat. Build and construction is incredible.
Unbeatable value. Worth way more.
Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1b Alnico II Pro Bridge Humbucker:
I had bought a Les Paul with knock off EMG style pickups in it. While these were okay, I felt that they were too sterile and didn't have enough bluesy punch. (I'm 18, and play blues, jazz, and slide oriented rock) So when I was searching for pickups, I was crossed between a pair of these, or a '59/ Pearly Gates combo. I am thoroughly glad I chose the Alnico IIs. Very warm and punchy, but you can get a raunchy crunch if you desire. I also look to coil tap in the near future, as I here they sound strat like tapped. Thanks, Seymour Duncan.
Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1b Alnico II Pro Bridge Humbucker:
I am a single coil guy, I play mostly Strats. I have a few guitars with humbuckers but I reserved them for higher gain stuff. I could just never get clarity and definition I liked for clean playing from them, and I tried a lot of them.I purchased a guitar with these already installed because the price was right. When I tried them I really fell in love. They are warm, articulate and sound very round yet clear. Nice clean sounds abound with either the bridge or the neck (or both used together). Add some dirt and they purr. These really shine through an amp that is being pushed into saturation. Creamy is a word that is used a lot, but it really fits here. They handle higher gain stuff as well.I have played them for close to a year now and my enthusiasm for them has only grown. If you play Blues, Jazz or Classic Rock then these will cover them all with ease. If you play heavy rock to Metal these probably won't be your cup of tea.
