These pickups replaced a pair of EMG's, and they sound amazing. They went in an ESP that originally had EMG passives, but they sound SOOO much better than my Viper 1000 Deluxe with 81/85's. The EMG distortion is definatly heavier and more unique, but I like the tonal variety that these livewires give. Sounds great distorted and AWESOME clean. Didn't know I could get that clear of tone out of actives. The Pots, however, were a bitch to solder and definatly did not impress me. The hardware provided with it wasn't the highest quality but these pickups more than make up for that. I am, however, still chasing electrical gremlins...mostly in the jack, but that could be my fault.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
These are probably my favorite active humbucker set. I need versatility and these little babies deliver. No wonder Dave has these loaded in all his guitars.
They're pretty much your standard active humbuckers with no coil split option, but if you're buying this set then I seriously doubt you're after single coil sounds.
Everything is very sturdy and durable. I've had them for about 4 years now and they're just as rock solid and look and sound just as good as the day I installed them. The pups and pots were made for some serious performance and can easily survive the wildest of playing. They seem to have the same kind of frequency response as a passive pickup, but have the hotter output of an active. You can't ask for a lot more than that. For those of you who are curious what they sound like if you 18 volt mod them, they seem to just have hotter output as there isn't really any compression to compete against. That said, after I modded mine, I kept it that way.
Cheaper than EMG without the sterile, compressed tone. Granted the EMG X-series and JH set have seemed to overcome this to an extent, the Dave Mustaine Livewires just seem to really do the trick. There's not much you can't do with these pickups if you know how to dial in your sound properly.
Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
These pickups are amazing. I am still excited to play my guitar and pick it up every day and play for hours. They sound just like Dave Mustaine, now if I could only play as good as him. The secret to getting a great sound is to adjust the pickup height as close to the strings as possie. Fine tune your sound at a lower amp volume so that when you crank it up lower frequencies don't muddy up your sound. I am so happy with them and may buy another pair.
Fantastic sounds! An excellent addition to my not so expensive guitar. I have the Zakk Wylde EMGs in my other guitar and I am pleased with the contrast between the two in the studio.
Supplied capacitors are large and took up valuable space in the knob compartment. If you plan on running 18 volt you will need to keep the wiring organized and to a minimum. Be sure to wrap the battery(s) in electrical tape to prevent them from shorting out on the switch or volume pots.
Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
Came with my Dean VMNT. Loved them the first day. These are my first active pickups. I've never played the EMGs so can't actually compare. but they're good enough for my requirements.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
These are some mean pups. For those of you that do not care for EMGs, these pickups will address all the issues you have. They are warm yet crisp and clear. Moreover, they respond EXTREMLY well to pick attack. I happen to like the EMG 81/60 combo I have in my '85 Reissue explorer but these came on my Dean Mustaine Angel of Deth and I cannot think of a bad thing to say about them. Seymour did an awesome job designing these. So, if you want the clarity and punch of active pickups but don't want the sterility and compression of EMGs, than look no further than these pups. Seymour just gave all those passive-pickup tone junkies the best of both worlds.

I plan to have these put into a Dean VX I'm going to get. Have'nt played them yet but those Seymour sound samples are AWESOME! The only active pickups with chrome covers!
Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
I just installed some Dave Mustaine LiveWire pickups and they have exceeded my expectations! Extreme Lows with massive crunch and sterlin highs with enough sustain to melt your face! Even the clean tones are very crisp and prestine. If you want an active set of pickups, and still want tone with any volume level, clean or distorted, then you will want these....! I am very surprised at the tone and clarity that these pickups have especially being active. Usually an active pickup has alot of gain but lacks in tone at certain levels or they don't sound as good through a clean channel but these pickups sound great no matter what channel or level you play at. I also wired them up at 18 volts so the headroom they have are crazy... Wow!!
Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
I installed these in an Ibanez RG with a string thru hard tail. And let me tell you the sustain lasts for days. These pickups can do almost anything just rolling the volume back can make the dirtiest channel go clean. Crank it to ten and you've got gain comparable to Randy Rhoads. I would recommend these to any guitarist wanting that classic seymourized tone with all the gain you can handle.
Comments about Seymour Duncan Livewire Dave Mustaine Active Pickup Set:
I own a Jackson Dave Mustaine Y2KV and previously had an EMG 81/85 set loaded in it. The guitar saw little play since I wasn't achieving the tonality and the crunch that pleases me. The guitar is excellent in every other way and it was a shame to have it just sit, so I decided to complete the signature package by giving the Mustaine Livewire set a roll. Since losing the EMG's I couldn't be happier and now this guitar gets the play time it's deservant of. The crunch tone is unbelievable and the leads cut through the band mix with no problem. Great tone, great high output! I've enjoyed the results of this purchase so much that I invested in another set for my other 'active' pickup wired guitar that needs new life! Order these pickups, you won't be disappointed!
