A fantastic way to amplify acoustic guitar!

The Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic is an acoustic pickup that begs the question: "Why mix a magnetic pickup with a microphone?" Because, the magnetic pickup senses the guitar strings' vibrations while the mic accurately reproduces the complex and rich character of the acoustic guitar's tone. Blended together, the result is the most natural-sounding, 3-dimensional soundhole pickup. The Seymour Duncan Mag Mic is the first active, humbucking, magnetic soundhole pickup ever created. The SA-6 features a blend circuit and adjustable pole pieces--2 for each string. It uses Seymour Duncan's patented, hum-cancelling stack design to eliminate 60-cycle hum. Permanent or temporary installation is a snap, and the sound is amazing. Deep, rich lows; percussive mids; and shimmering highs. The SA-6 pickup accurately duplicates and amplifies your acoustic guitar's entire sound spectrum. The Mag Mic gets up to 500 hours continuous operation from a single standard 9V battery. You can attach N-size battery clips directly to the Mag Mic pickup for a completely self-contained unit.

  • First pickup of its kind
  • Blend circuit

The Semour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic is great sounding. I like the range of tones. You can adjust the mix and pole pieces...it's as close as I've heard to the natural sound, without that shrill piezo/pickup sound. The only negative for me was that it barely fit into the sound hole. I know it's only a minor thing, but having to slide the unit closer to the bridge clearly is going to be a different sound than if it had been located dead center of the sound hole (less vibration of the string). I installed it on a Parkwood that I liked because of it's bass response, which means a larger sound hole. Other than that, it works fine.

SA-6 in my Blueridge 12-string

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Easy to install. Looks great on the guitar. Directions are good. Sounds awesome. Adjusted mix to 100% mic input and still no feedback issues. So far found about 60/40 to 70/30 mic to mag mix to be perfect sound. Highly recommend.

A perfect addition to my Martin DSR

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I'm happy with it but now i have to upgrade the rest of my stuff to get the most out of the sound...it just never ends.
You have to play around with it once it's installed, but the sound is exactly what I was looking for. My Martin has a deep rich full sound and I wanted to record that on my PC. I also bought Mixcraft 5 and use a USB POD to link everything. I am very happy with the final sound quality. If I had a real studio it would be even better. The sound is better than any of the built-in pickups I tried on Taylor, Gibson and other acoustic guitars. I was looking for this pickup for a couple years, and now I have it.
Easy to install, perfect sound
I was ready to pay any price for what I was looking for. The price was well below what I was expecting to pay.

Great Pickup!!!

By russell harju

from Fullerton, CA (home of Fender)

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Great!
They are right when they say it's the best acoustic pickup on the market. For sure the best one I've heard. It will closely replicate the sound of your acoustic straight through a PA or you can hook it to your favorite amp to give it a little more electric sound. You can dial it with the master and mic volume controls. Pretty easy to install although 2 of the 3 drill bit sizes were not available at Home Depot (and were not 2 of the 50 bits i had in my garage) so I had to go to a specialty store. Not a big problem but a professional may be able to drill the hole cheaper than it would be to buy the drill bits. I love it.
Great quality and would expect nothing less from SD.
It is way more expensive than other alternatives but also sounds much better. It's worth it to me.

The best so far...

By DS-v3pk8

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

Terrific choice for any guitar that you don't want to make any permanent modifications to. I did drill and ream for the end pin jack, but even that could have been avoided if absolutely necessary. Sounds great in both a regular flat top acoustic and a Weissenborn style "Hawaiian" guitar, which was what I bought it for in the first place. But I liked it so much in the regular guitar, I bought another one! I previously used a Sunrise and a Baggs M1, which were very good, but the option of blending in the mic added more of a "real" acoustic sound. If I ever find anything better, maybe I'll give that a "5", but I am quite happy with this.

Great acoustic pick-up

By Harpsichord

from Northern NJ

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I recently installed this pick-up in my 1998 Taylor 422R (Grand Concert body - spruce top & rosewood body). It sounds amazing, especially with the mic turned up most of the way. It is responsive to technique and the location of where you pick the strings, but does pick up fret and other noise. Played through a Bose L1 - it is crisp and very true to the acoustic tone of the guitar. Plugged into a Fender Acoustasonic SFX II it is rich and very warm. Complaints - It does not seem to have a high output compared to factory pick-ups in other guitars I have played, but it is stronger than passive pick-ups I have tried. Also - the 12 adjustable polepieces are a great feature but one was seized in place and rounded out the allen key when I tried to turn it. Thankfully I could compensate by turning it's mate a little higher.I did the installation myself in about an hour and 15 minutes (including re-stringing and cleaning), and I was being slow and deliberate. Thankfully my Taylor has the endpin hole already drilled for the jack. Conclusion - I have been wanting to put a pick-up in this guitar for some time and SA-6 seems to be the perfect retrofit.

OvationMaster1119

By teleman52ri

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I have this pickup installed in my 1976 Ovation Custom Legend 1119. (RARE GUITAR IN GOOD CONDITION) I love this pickup! I run it through a marshall as100d acoustic amp and I can't imagine running anything else. I use all Marshall stuff. Ovation acoustics, and Gibson Les Paul electrics. I have a marshall jcm 2000 dsl 401 from 2003. I needed a pickup that would blend perfectly with my electric tone... and... this is it boyz & girlz!!!!!!!!

Has beat everything . . .

By Craig Capdepon

from Slidell,La.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-6 Mag Mic Active Acoustic Guitar Pickup:

I play live twice a week, and do a lot of studio work. We played an outside festival once on the beach and the soundman was shocked by the great acoustic tone of my guitar. (1980 Martin D-28) But I owe it to the SA-6 to get that sound to the PA! During a studio session we recorded an acoustic fingerpicked song using Pro Tools laying down three tracks of the guitar, one direct (SA-6), and two others using very high quality tube mics. During the mix I was surprised that the SA-6 captured the guitars rich tone better that these mics! I highly recommend this pick-up.
