      OVERVIEW

For precise enunciation of those lightning-like jazz licks.

The Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz Model Pickup is suitable for musicians who need an accurate, clear tone for fast jazz runs. The brighter sound has slightly less output and is a good match with most pickups. A popular combination is The Jazz Model in the neck with either a JB (SH-4) or Duncan Custom (SH-5) in the bridge.

The tone you get with the Jazz Neck emphasizes clarity, articulation, treble, and upper mids at the cost of reduced bass, no balls, and no buttery warmth. In a brighter guitar like basswood it might come off as surgically cold and twangy slightly like a single coil, while in darker/warmer guitars like mahogany it will balance things out NICELY and produce a clear clean with even highs and lows, yes even a warm yet sharp sound. So it really depends on the intrinsic sound of your guitar if this pickup will work for you. For clean solos, the Jazz is so articulate that it might get kind of spikey or clicky when picking, thus it's not at all a rounded tone; the opposite in fact. Some people want that. Me, I wanted a clear bluesy clean and in my basswood this ended up being too spikey/spanky, but in another much warmer/darker guitar it sounded great. For distorted solos, you're going to get more of a bridge type sound instead of the thick "wah" sound you normally get with neck pickups. It still works, just beware if you want the latter. In conclusion, get the jazz if you want the ultimate in note picking articulation and don't necessarily care about bluesy warmth, unless you have a really dark and warm sounding guitar already.

I put this pickup in my 2004 Gibson Les Paul at the neck position. It was quite possibly the worst squire-strat-single coil bridge-sound ive ever heard come from a les paul. it was a disappointment. Maybe mine was defective, but i'm just going with a different pickup now to be safe. This isn't as great as everyone says.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz Model Pickup:

This pickup is awesome! This is the third guitar I've installed it into. Compared to the typical '59 neck that most Seymour Duncan-equipped guitars come with, the sound is more scooped (a bit less mid range) but brighter and bassier. It can do everything the '59 neck can do and Les Paul neck pickups can do, but it does them sounding a bit more modern. The four conductor wiring allows you to do some "tricks" with it, also. I don't recommend using this pickup in split mode (the output is too low) but in parallel and with a four-conductor bridge pickup, it does a great job. I put this one in my Fender Showmaster and it sounds absolutely fantastic!

The packaging was horrible and my pickup arrived with one of the mount ears broken off from shipping! MF needs to package these better so that the delivery people can't break them.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz Model Pickup:

This is one of the pickups that introduced me to the SD lineup. I've paired it with various brands and output partners and it's always performed as expected (after the initial shock). I don't think it's meant to to be "balls to the wall" or paired with other high output pickups though. I've used it mainly in 2PU configs in the neck position with EMG H4 and Dimarzio Steve's Special for years and it steadily produces an articulate, beautiful sound.

I put the sh-2 in my 1992 Les Paul and it has the warmest tone. Great on my jazz scales and very clean warm tone. I put the sh-4 jb on my bridge and they smoke together. They are bright loud pickups. If you have a Les Paul I would highly recommend them. I put new Gold covers on so they still look stock, and glad i did. All the other bands wonder why my rig is so hot.

I have this pickup in many of my humbucker equipped Fender guitars, and it sounds great in all of them. Of course, each guitar lends its own characteristics, but this pickup has definitely improved the tone of all of them.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz Model Pickup:

I installed this "hotrodded humbucker" set (TB-4, SH-2n) in an Ibanez s420 w 500k volume pot. This combination is incredible. Presently, I'm rolling off some highs with the tone pot - may eventually go for 250k volume pot.
I play a wide variety of styles including blues, rock, country, alternative - and this set will handle all of it with ease. Heated up or cooled down, they don't fail - tone for days.
Splitting the coils gives a considerably weaker output, but that's to be expected, given that these are not high-output pups. I compensate for it by designating single coil channels in my floorboard fx unit.
The JB is rich in mids; not for everyone, but it cuts through the mix, and the harmonics are to die for! Bottom end is not as well-defined as I'd like, but that may be the amp I'm using.
The Jazz is the fullest, prettiest sounding neck pickup I've ever played - and as I said, sparkling clean or fired up and soaring

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-2N Jazz Model Pickup:

My favorite pickups for years have been Seymour Duncan 59 and APH-1 (Alnico II Pro). But I took a chance based on reviews on this Jazz for the first time. I love it, right away I could tell this is the one. Great cleans, strong singing tone, balanced. Compared to APH is is more musical tones, more bass less trebly. Compared to 59 seems clearer cleaner. They say Anico II has better melodic sound, but this Jazz just sings sweetly and stronger, fuller than APH. I bought this for neck, with JB for bridge, to use one for cleans one for heavy rock, metal. Really delivers. I've used so many neck pickups, but this Jazz just has such as wonderful sweet singing melodic sound, wow, totally recommended. My new favorite neck.

Well what can I say . Not Only is it great for cleans but it's damn nice for heavy distortion as well ( although you may have to play with EQ on the amp if you want Extremly heavy stuff out of it ) . But yeah i used it at a church and it was amazing. Great Pickup for just about anything i would say.

If you want a neck pickup that can play sweet blues, clear, full, not muddy, articulate, warm, again, not muddy, this is your pickup. I have searched for years. This is it. My Classic 57 and my 490R both pale in comparison. They sound weak or muddy or both. This pickup is very usable for the middle position as well. I have a 498t in the brigde and they play very well together. You can definetely get some nice clear full shredding out of this neck pickup too. I am so happy. I will never buy another neck pickup. You won't be disappointed. Wow
