Seymour Duncan

A humbucker pickup set that splits to either a full-size P-90 or a special Alnico-powered single-coil Rail pickup.

Until now, if you wanted humbucker, P-90, and vintage Strat tones, you'd have to haul three guitars to the gig but that was before the Seymour Duncan SHPR-1 P-Rails pickups. P-Rails feature a ground breaking, patent pending design allows a full-size humbucker to split to either a real deal P-90 or a traditional single coil. Perfect for a wide variety of styles including country, pop, surf, jazz, blues, classic rock, and heavy rock.

The humbucker sound is full and expansive, owing to the mismatched coil configuration. The P-90 pickup is a super fat. And the Rail coils, when used together, sound like the 2 and 4 "in-between" positions in a great Strat.

P-Rails can be used in any guitar set up for a traditional humbucker or Trembucker. A single P-Rails will bring added dimension to your guitar sound. However, to optimize the unique splitting capabilities and get the best single-coil Rails tones from your Seymour Duncan pickup, use a neck and bridge set.

To get both humbucker and P-90 tones, use a two-way switch (push-pull or mini-toggle). To have humbucker and P-90 tones and bring in the added dimension of the single-coil Rail, use a three-way switch (DPDT on-off-on).

These are great

Features:

Extreme tonal range for an extreme tonal palette.

Quality:

These things are rock solid.  The only problem I had was that the magnet spacing of the bridge pickup did not perfectly match my string spacing.  The neck pickup matched just fine though.  Sound quality is fantastic and you will spend endless hours exploring new tonal ranges.  I was a little disappointed in the tone of the rail single coil; it just didn't have enough midrange for me.  However, the P90 and the series and parallel humbucker positions sound great.

Value:

I would say that these pickups are priced just right for their possibilities you are getting out of them.

Overall:

Great pickups and super cool concept.

Seymour Duncan P-Rails Set

Overall:

I used these pickups in a guitar I build using Warmoth parts.  I'm  very happy with them, great usable humbucker and single coil sounds.  In  the past I've tried coil taps/splits, and have never gotten a good  single coil sound out of it.

These really do the  trick, when in the rails mode I can get the 3 sounds I use most out of a  standard strat, twangy bridge, sizzley combined, and blusey neck.  The  P-90 mode is really versitle, a little more punch than a strat single  coil, so it works well for going back and forth from rhythm to lead.   And the humbucker mode has that Les Paul sound to it, fat, creamy and a  lot of punch.

These might not be for everybody, I  really like them because I prefer pickups with a classic sound/output.   Definately not for people who want high output, or super heavy sounds.   But they do give 3 accurate classic pickup sounds in one guitar.

These pickups are just "WOW!" I own an '86 PRS & (for a spare) a PRS SE 24. I put a set in the SE & it actually can do more than the '86! Pro wired with 2 mini-switches, I get 15 sounds! 3 sounds each alone & 9 duals! I can't say enough about these fantastic pickups! Well-worth their price.

One gig guitar

Been playing for 30 years + and this is the most versatile pickup since the stratocaster!I used to carry 2 or 3 guitars to a gig, now only one due to the airline baggage restriction! I've got a Les Paul and a PRS, both with a set of PRails and triple shot mounting ring. For me the best way to really get a very usable rail sound is to mount it further away from each other, meaning the P90 closer together and the rails further apart. I can get a very close tone of a strat that way. I love this setup and the P-Rails!
