This STL-3 is a brute that has enough power to compete with humbuckers and hot P-90s. The stronger magnetic field of the quarter-inch diameter pole pieces increases the output and allows use of a special coil winding. It keeps the high-end definition for great treble bite and a full, powerful midrange. It's especially useful for overdriven tones.

  • Great for pushing the front end of your Marshall
  • Loud and Proud

Cons

  • Little too aggressive for clean Fender Amps

Best Uses

  • Rock

Comments about Seymour Duncan STL-3 Quarter Pound Telecaster Guitar Pickup Lead:

This is an aggressive single coil that plays well with Marshall Amplifiers (JMP,JCM 800, etc). Great harmonics, powerful tone and presence. Installed in a Pine Classic Vibe Squire Tele: it plays well with the original neck pickup. The middle possition gives up the funk, and you still have the jazzy tone of the neck pickup. The bridge quarter pounder gives you a great boost for leads and crunchy rhythms, works best without a tone control; I have rewired the switch so this only works on the neck a middle positions (with a Sprauge orange drop .047 cap). Rock and Roll!

Comments about Seymour Duncan STL-3 Quarter Pound Telecaster Guitar Pickup Lead:

Put two of these pick-ups in my custom made telecasters that I built. Sound great for rock music and are pretty close to a P-90 type sound. Punchy and has bite, but may be a tad too much for your traditional country picker....but maybe nothing more than a few adjustments on your amp. Pretty sure you should be able to still get a nice tele twang!

Comments about Seymour Duncan STL-3 Quarter Pound Telecaster Guitar Pickup Lead:

The reason why I'm writing this review is because I was hoping for more information about the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder Bridge pickup when I was researching it. There were some nice reviews and sound clips but I was really on the fence about it. I couldn't be happier with this pickup and hopefully I can be of some help if you're in the same boat.

I have a beautiful partscaster tele with a 1 piece Rutters Sugar Pine body, Warmoth fatback neck, Keystone pickups and a 4 way switch. I love the neck pickup but there was something off about the bridge pickup and it was driving me crazy! My friend who is a vintage guy noticed it too and hooked up a DMM to read the outputs. The neck was reading 13.4 and the bridge was 9.5. Not only was the weaker output a problem but the bridge pickup sounded "pingy" and my ears didn't care for it. So now it was time to replace the bridge pickup with one that would be more balanced with the neck. The search was on!

The Quarter Pounder is rated at 17 but the reviews I read said it was dark sounding and single coil hum was an issue. Some of the reviewers specified using a 47uf cap but I didn't want to do that because I just changed to a 22uf cap. This subject took me a long time to understand and here's a simplified description about caps that I wish someone would have told me: single coils normally have 22uf caps/250 pots and humbuckers have 47uf/500 pots. That's pretty much ground zero and tinkering with it can be a slippery slope that requires the player to really know exactly why they're going to change the formula.

Okey doke, no guts no glory! It was time to pull the trigger and I'm so glad I threw caution to the wind. The Quarter Pounder tele bridge pickup with a 22uf cap sounds killer! It has a very pleasing zing and twang, doesn't sound dark or noisy either. I play it through tube amps and it pushes them into a glorious overdrive. The Quarter Pounder is a forgotten classic that gets overlooked nowadays and it shouldn't be
