I seriously don't understand why the ratings are so low on this site, look ANYwhere else, this product is widely respected. Yes, I work with lots of sound equipment for my church like many people. The main reason I got this was because many worship leaders have guitars that don't plug in. Because this would be a product that many members would be using their filthy hands with, I didn't want to get something expensive and too valuable for the church if it were broken or mistreated(which is why I got this one instead of the higher versions). This product WAY BEYOND EXCEEDED my expectations, there's absolutely NO buzzing, and SURPRISING amount of clarity. Even if you have the worst amplification system ever, there's nothing a little EQing could do to make it sound beautiful. Let's just say, if you want something to use for the stage, nothing too expensive, GET THIS NOW!!

I don't know much about acoustic pick-ups or anything, but when I bought this, I really didn't expect there to be so much buzzing! It's just a constant annoying sound that really distracts from the music. I bought this so I could play some shows but the buzz was just too overwhelming and now I have to deal with making sure I'm not too far from the mic that picks up my guitar. Complete bummer. I wish I had dished out the extra 20 to get the humbucker.

Great Sound, Impossibe Fit

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

Think pickup sounds wonderful, once I finally got it in my guitar. Now I had checked the dimensions of my guitar against the directions and everything checked out, yet it still hadn't fit correctly. It took a little elbow grease but it worked. The sound is pretty sweet. I am sure the hum canceling might be a little better, but this works fine for me. If you can't swing the more expensive pickup, this one will do you fine. Make sure that you measure you guitar though...or you too will be wrestling with your guitar...

Almost great

By Potatofingers

from Deep Outback, Arizona

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

This pickup has very good sound. I'm using it on my Martin D-28 so I'm picky about how it treats the fine sound of that guitar. And it does very well. The problem is, the volume on the B string (#2) is more than 50% greater than the other strings. I've tried compensating for that on my amp (Crate acoustic) and just picking that string with less force, but that becomes a pain in the butt after awhile. This is almost a great pickup, especially for the price. But that unbalanced sound makes it almost non-usable for my fingerpicking style.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

Dern cheap, sounds great, has that nice jangly single-coil sound. It sounds great with my A&L Ami, though it required modification to fit the sound hole. It comes with instructions on how to make the mod, finished in maybe 10 minutes with a hand saw, file and glue. It's single coil, so you get the jangles and great dynamic control, more natural open sound then humbluckers give. The trade-off, if you could call it that, is the distinctive hum that's been a trademark feature of certain sounds and styles. Generally, I wouldn't record with a single-coil pick up on an the Ami, I'd just mic it, unless I was going for that single-coil sound, including the hum.

Good in a pinch

By Brian-3g2zY

from Virginia

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

The sound quality was good, better than expect to be honest - I only had buzzing if I was in room where I had flourescent lights. My biggest complaints with it were:#1 - No volume control - so if you don't have a EQ pedal or a sound board this might be an issue. I could work around this.#2 - Chord is constantly in the way and if depending on how you pick/strum/pluck and the angle of attack you take you may be tapping or sliding across the pick-up constantly. I couldn't work around this - my pick was constantly hitting the chord. For some this might not be an issue - everyone's style varies, but if you've never had a sound hole pick-up before, you should strongly consider this as part of your selection process and take a close look on how deep your right hand goes into the strings. But again, the sounds was really great, so if I was in a pinch I would definitely use again without hesitation.

Loud Hum

By Jericho Powell

from East Coast

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I usually do not write reviews but, in this case I will make an exception. The hum is so loud I can't even concentrate on my playing. Also, the response from the B string is at least double the level of the other strings. Not a good purchase even at this price. It is essentially useless.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I picked up one of these things for a nice ** bucks. I play frequently at my youth group and wanted to play my own takemine verses their ages old takemine with a warped neck. Which brings me to my first point. If your using this onstage, and hope to move around at all, don't buy this product. The cord coming down across the front of the guitar it just plain awkward. It really hinders movement. Also, it obviously has no volume knob, and on all the PA systems i've played through, they've had to krank it up real high. The tone is alright, its rather on the bright side, but it works. This is a great choice if your doing home studio projects on a budget, but its not a very gig-friendly pickup.

We have a Dean Markley Pro Mag and needed another pick up, this one was cheaper so we took a shot? It lasted about a year of weekly giging then quit working. I tried to fix it but let's just say we'll be buying another Dean. lol... Our original Dean is still going strong!

    Great Sound For Price

    By luvmytaylor

    from Miami, Fl

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I just bought this little doodad because I have a "cafe night" artsy type poetry/original music show at my school. I needed something to amplify my Taylor 110 and looked around. It was recommended to me by the guy at the counter and I had nothing to lose because I was allowed a 30 day trial. Well it's been 1 day and im definately not going to return it. Although I have to admit it has a little of an electric guitar sound (hey its a single coil pickup not a mic) don't let it be a turn-off, it actually sounds pretty good. it definatly gets my thumbs up.

    A Disappointment

    By Killroy

    from Oakdale, PA

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

First, I bought this pickup knowing it was single coil, but assuming that a buzz wouldn't exist due to the fact I intended to only use it for clean acoustic stuff and never for anything distorted. I plug the thing in -all excited- and I get more than one problem. Firstly, a buzzing looms in the background, one that I didn't want -and specifically expected not to hear. And to clarify, I'm talking about buzz, not a hum, and it's definitely the pickup and not my equipment.Secondly, the worse of the two main problems is that the B-string registers at least TWICE AS LOUD as the other strings through this pickup. After reading the back of the package it all made sense: "...The Woody's shaped magnetic field provides even, balanced output from each string-especially the "B" string." The fact they claim "even" and "balanced" output and then non-sensically put emphasis on the "B" string brings me to one of two conclusions.1. The pickup I got is defective -made more likely by the fact that something special is done in reguard to the "B" string.2. The pickup just plain sucks. And to be completely honest, listening to the isolated pickup sound alone, it ain't that great. It sounds like a clean electric guitar only muffled and lacking clarity, not a warm acoustic sound I would have liked -and I wanted something I wouldn't have to screw around with to get what I need. Hopefully I can enact the 21 day Seymore Duncan Guarantee, pay the difference and get the XL instead.

I previously purchased the Dean Markley pickup to save money, but you do get what you pay for! That stick on pickup wouldn't stay on guitar, etc. This one is very easy to install and the sound is great. The wire is long and of good quality. If you don't want to drill a hole in your acoustic, this is a great solution.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

Professional musician for 3.5 years now, this was the first pickup I've ever tried. I got a couple different ones for different guitars over the years, one was stolen, and only one of them went bad (cable went bad).
These are a great deal, they last for a while and are super durable. You can even angle it in the sound hole so that way you can give yourself more bass or more treble. They recently hanged the model, too, and now the pickup is about half as thick as it used to be (makes it super easy to install, remove)

I bought this pickup two years ago (I wish I could say it was just because I wanted to be sure but the truth is, just haven't thought about it). I really like the pickup and it does a great job on my acoustic. At the time I bought it the description (changed now) led me to believe it would fit both my acoustic dreadnought and my classical. It does fit the dreadnought but doesn't even come close the the classical. Until just recently I wasn't in need of something for both but now I need to plug my classical in. So, now I am shopping for something to use on it (that is why I remembered to finally put a review of this product online).
