Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I do some playing and writing of music.
The Woody XL gives me all the rich wonderful sound of my Guild guitar with no distortion.
Whether I am playing mild lead licks, a melody line, chording or playing riffs, the Woody stays out fo the way and transfers the rich sounds perfectly.
An added extra is that you can slant the pick in the sound hole for special effects.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

The XLs are some of the best sound hole pickups made. I own three of them for my own guitars and have installed them in several other players instruments. Very good quality, great price.

Good Value, Easy to Install and Use, Works Well

      By Stephen Dell

      from North Carolina

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I think this is very good for what it's supposed to do and considering its cost. I don't gig, only home studio stuff and song writing, and this works well with my aging Seagull Series S Cedar top. I run it through a little tube preamp and sometimes a compressor pedal and can easily get the sounds I want. Not hugely loud, but I don't need or want that. Works great for me!
So without a pre-amp or volume controls built in, it does have some limitations, but I've been able to adjust some of the pole pieces to pretty much get what I want out of it. I wanted something that I could install without drillng or modification, and this fits the bill nicely.
Very very good. Nicely put together, solid and strudy. High quality cable.
Yep, pretty good for under $100.

Great Acoustic Pickup from a Great Company. Thanks Seymour

      By Steven Spinner

      from Long Island, NY

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I love this pickup. I wanted a decent sounding and looking pickup for my new Martin D-28, but did not want to go the route of installing and drilling, in other words changing the original instrument. I came across the Woody line of pickups from Seymour Duncan. I knew the brand name, so it caught my attention. I especially like the XL model because you can adjust the individual poles for each string's sensitivity depending on picking style, or if you have a radiused neck. The sound was good, and sounded like an acoustic. One thing I should mention is that the output is not very high if you are not using an acoustic amp. Works OK through a PA system though. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing an acoustic preamp which will much improve the sound and volume to your tastes. I use the Fishman ProEQ 2. The pickup looks really nice on the sound hole of my Martin displaying a rich wooden casing that blends very nicely with the Martin or for that matter any quality wooden acoustic guitar. The cord is attached to the pickup, but is extra long, like 16 ft, so unless you are dancing around the stage at the Palladium, you should be fine. I highly recommend this pickup. I looked at the "Tube Style" pickup by Duncan, because of the volume control, but it acts more of an on/off with not much control, and did not have the nice look and adjustability of the Woody XL. Buy it and you won't be disappointed. Keep pickin'.
I would rate this pickup an A+++
Great quality from a respected and reknowned maker of pickups, Mr. Seymour Duncan.
Terriffic value for the money. Less than $50.00. duh?

      It works

      By Owen-hadSR

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I bought this pick up after purchasing a brand new acoustic with a solid spruce top. I loved the tone of this full bodied guitar, but it has no electronics (which I prefer). I did get a single coil pick-up by another manufacturer that sounded good, but had a noticable hum. The first time I heard my acoustic through this pick-up, I was not thrilled. It sounded too much like an electric guitar. I found the way to get a good acoustic sound out of this pickup is too have a good 5 or 7 band EQ or one with a sweepable mids. Then you have to add reverb to the sound to get a convincing acoustic tone. I am not sorry I bought this pick-up because it does the job and is very quiet. I can't hear any kind of buzzing whatsoever. I also like that I can remove it whenever I wish and I don't need to worry about batteries. It comes with a nice quality cord that is plenty long to reach your amp. I would recommend this product for anyone who is on a budget looking for a quiet live performance pick up for an acoustic guitar.

      Seymour Duncan Woody XL

      By TJ-Qf8kn

      from Texas

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

This is a very nice pick-up, very good looking in the guitar, the only thing lacking would be a volume control as another reviewer mentioned.I also found on other reviews no mention of what this pickup could fit other than doing research to find it is recommended to fit in a soundhole of 3.8 to 4.25 inches. Whith minor modification I fit this into a crafter TRV model with a 3.5 inch hole, by grinding the inner lip on the cord side for clearance and then removing the foam from both sides on the inside of the lips cutting it in half and reinstalling. This was easily done with dremel tool in about 10 min and you can't tell there is any modification from the outside. The crafter is about the same size sound hole as a baby taylor or little martin and I think sounds better than both. The pick sound really good through by crate CA30 acoustic amp with no buzz at all. I love this little travel guitar but know I crank it up and it plays really nice as an acoustic electric guitar with the aid of this excellent pickup.Being adjustable you can fine tune it as well, but it does sound pretty nice right out of the box. I may tweek the individual pick up slightly in the future but it does sound really good and definitely live up to what is advertised and then some.I would recommend this to anyone who want to use an acoustic as an acoustic electric. If modify it like I did it would fit in a kids guitar as well.Seymour Duncan was very helpful when I called then for actual dimensions because I could not find that anywhere as well. After I trimmed it the unit fit right in place without removing any strings as well.As I said I would buy another just like it if I need it for another acoustic.

I just bought this for my Martin DM. It does nothing but buzz on every string. I restrung and tuned my guitar...same thing. You get what you pay for or don't pay for in this case. Bummer!

      Great pickup!!

      By Brian-pWj8y

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I got the Seymour Duncan Woody XL for my birthday to put into my Mitchell MD100S12 12-string guitar. I regularly play it through my Peavey Vypyr 75 it plays amazingly. It is easily put into the sound-hole of the guitar and can be adjusted to provide more or less emphasis on different strings. I have found, however that the strings' sounds are equally represented through the pickup. I highly recommend measuring your sound-hole before purchasing, as the pickup measures about 4 and 3/16" across. The only thing I would change on this pickup is to put a volume control somewhere on the pickup for quick and easy adjustments. Otherwise, the pickup is a must have if you have an acoustic you always wanted to plug in or if your acoustic electric's pickup system simply doesn't satisfy you.

Great pickup on my Cort acoustic

      By hatch

      from Nebraska

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody XL Adjustable Pole Pieces Soundhole Pickup:

I bought one of these used and, at first use, thought maybe I should return it. I was plugging it into a Fender Mini Tone-Master. I wanted something that sounded good in headphones so I could really hear how I was playing while practicing. Turns out the Mini Tone-Master was holding back the quality of this pickup. I scraped the fender mini for a Crate BX-15 Practice Bass Amp and it made a HUGE difference. The pickup really preserves the acoustic sound...(I was afraid it would have an electric sound like it did on the Fender mini). The highs are crisp and bright but not tinny and it picks up the lows nicely. I did have to adjust the pole pieces a little on the one i purchased, but after playing around for a while i found the right spots for each. I LOVE THIS PICKUP and recommend it to anyone with an acoustic who is looking for clean and true amplification of their guitar.
