I was using a Kyser capo for years right before buying the Shubb. I still have the Kyser capo and I still think it's a good capo.

The Kyser capo works very well. However, some drawbacks to the Keyser capo are that they are bulky and you have to squeeze them pretty hard to get them on. Kyser capos also get grooves in the sleeves if they are left on the guitar neck for even a short time.

I'm looking at my Kyser capo right now and I see that the frame is made of hollow sheet metal and the part of the frame above the spring and pivot that comes to a stop against the side of the neck of the guitar, if you push the capo on too far, has a piece of black tape covering the open sheet metal frame. In other words, this piece of tape is all that protects the neck of the guitar against the sheet metal frame. This is the only part of the Kyser capo that seems rather cheap. However, I have to say that this hasn't caused me any trouble yet. But I have to wonder where I would get another piece of this tape if I needed it.

The Shubb capos don't show any cheapness and are very compact, streamlined and solid. They snap onto the neck of the guitar effortlessly, and the tension adjustment is effortless (I adjusted mine with no effort within seconds of first putting it onto my guitar) and the Shubb seems to hold the strings just right to prevent buzzing. It takes very little tension on the capo to make it work well. The Shubb capos have an overall very high quality look and feel to them. They look like they would last forever.

If there is anything about the Shubb that could be improved, it would probably be that they could be a little wider. I have a Martin HD-28 guitar and I noticed that I was taking up almost the entire width of the Shubb capo when I got up to about the 7th fret and there wasn't a whole lot of width left even on the lower frets. In case anyone's wondering, there are famous musicians who actually do capo up that high. I haven't really had any problems with the width of the Shubb capo, though. I've also seen where it's possible to buy new sleeves for the Shubb capos if you'd want to.

I have to give the Shubb capo 5 stars. I wish everything was built this well.

I'm not sure about everyone else but this product came in with a bent wheel. Took me an hour to realize why this capo wouldn't clip on to the fret. The wife threw this capo out the window and everything in the house is good again.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

I bought this to use with my electric guitar (Strat). I have a Kyser that I've been using for decades with my acoustic and I love it also, however it seems to make my start sound out of tune when I used it with my electric guitar. I figure it was because of how tightly it clamped down on the strings. With this capo, I can adjust the tension which is exactly what I needed. This goes on my electric while keeping the sound true, clean, and perfect. Sounds great, I often have to play in church to lead the praise before the service and now I can use my electric even when I need to use the capo : )

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

This is truly a great capo. Very well built using stainless steel and great roller-bearing design. This capo does not apply too much force on the strings (it's adjustable to personal preference). It has a very gentle clamping mechanism that requires little force to fret-the-neck. Noticed right away, that the tuning is not alternated (i.e. existing tuning does not go sharp when this capo is used when properly adjusted).

At this time, I really do not use capo devices too much, but after using this one, it is the best capo thus far I tried. When you need a capo, this one is very consistent in-my-opinion.

The standard Shubb is a much better capo

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

The standard Shubb capo is a superior capo when compared to the deluxe.

The deluxe capo uses a wheel for tension while the standard capo uses cone shaped nub. The wheel gives the removal of the capo a snapping action which hits my fingers, ouch! The standard Shubb does not do this.

Even at it's lowest setting the deluxe capo gives too much tension when I use it at the 8th fret on my guitar (playing, "Girl" by the Beatles). The standard capo have a much larger tension range it allows me to capo anywhere on the neck from the first to the 12 fret.

Comments about Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

Finally got around to trying the Shubb capo after being a longtime trigger capo guy. Well, this is it. The ability to adjust the tension is excellent -- clamps securely and doesn't yank strings out of tune. I love the small profile since it stays out of my way. The search is over.

Great capo--no buzz and fits my Seagull guitars even though they have a wider neck. Much better than the cheaper ones. A good investment.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

I've been an avid Kyser user for years, and decided to pick up a Shubb after hearing a lot about them. I've always loved how easy the Kyser capo is to switch, but don't like how the grips stick up so far. The Shubb solved that problem. While it's not as quick to change as a Kyser, it's not that bad. And I love that everything about it just seems out of the way. It's like you don't have a capo on the guitar. I'd highly recommend both capo's to anyone, but the Shubb is the better option in my opinion.

Comments about Shubb Deluxe S Series Steel String Capo:

I am a beginning guitar player, and had no idea what a capo was for! I saw them being used at a concert and had to search on line for what they were called and used for! I decided to try to learn a song on YouTube and the instructor suggested the use of a capo to play in the original key of the song. I ordered this one based on my steel strings. The instructions that came with it were great and it was quite easy to fit. Once you fit it to your guitar (via the tightening of a screw) you are all set and just have to clamp it on when you want to use it! Very easy! I am still struggling with the song, but I have high hopes!

This capo requires a little adjustment in ones procedure to apply or to move, but it is the only capo I've ever had that won't pull my 25-year old Ovation Pinnacle out of tune. I especially appreciate this when performing, when neither retuning nor playing out of tune are good options.
