Comments about Shubb Lightwieght Aluminum Capo for Steel String Guitar:
This is made with the same great build quality as the Original C-Series capo (my favorite capo so far) with two differences:1) it is WAY lighter, even though I don't think of the C-series as a heavy object2) the curve of the long bar is differentAs for #1, I could notice no improvement in tone from using a lighter capo, though I have friends who prefer ultralight capos. I thought the original C-series had slightly better sustain.#2 was a deal-killer for me - I don't know why the curve is different, but it placed the support pad (for the back of the neck) in a different spot and made the capo good for only VERY thin-necked guitars. It was difficult to adjust it so that it would not pop off with slight pressure against the release lever without clamping so hard the strings pulled sharp (that delicate balance is why I prefer the Original C-Series over all other capos I have tried including the Shubb Deluxe S). I even tried it on my Carvin DC127 (electric), the thinnest-necked axe I own and it was still dodgy (not that I use a capo on electric anyway.I must say that Musician's Friend was very courteous and quick in shipping me the C-series replacement at no charge even though I had intentionally ordered the lightweight version. You guys rock in more ways than one.I'll stick with the Original C-series - FYI my main guitars are a Martin SP000-16TR, Larrivee D50, Taylor Big Baby and Vagabond travel guitar.
