If I were at a level where "other people" were handling my gear - throwing it into trucks and stuff - of course I would have an anvil flight case for everything. But - I think this is a pretty nice case for the "rest of us". I really don't have any problem with it - good SKB construction.

I read other reviews where people were dis-satisfied with the latches - and they are some kind of plastic (although I bet it's a good kind of plastic)- and they do sort of "stick out" - and it would be nice if they were somehow "recessed" - but - that would affect certainly the size of the case - the weight of the case (heavier) - and also the cost of the case - I suppose.

I AM going to try to remember to close my case when the guitar is not in it - and keep the latches "latched" so they don't get banged and bust off - so I guess that's a good "head's up" from someone.

I also have a SKB case for my mixer - and it uses those same latches - I've had it for a few years now - and never had an issue - but the mixer case (while the latches are not actually recessed) - does have some "contours" that would serve to protect the latches somewhat.

I don't know. When I'm loading the van for a "gig" - I have to load probably 40 different pieces of gear - all the powered speakers - the mixer - guitars - drums - bags and bags of cords - lights blah blah blah - it does become a bit of a chore. I try to be as gentle as possible - but stuff does end up just sort of getting chunked in there (everything in it's place - of course). I'm not worried about it - this case will be great - and will give adequate protection - I am sure.

My last case was NOT a SKB - but it WAS made from similiar materials - and it lasted like 20 years. Good enough. I would say this case is better constructed than that case was.

I looked at custom flight cases - but they were like "expensive". My accountant said "um - I don't think so". This case will be fine.

My guitar is a Yamaha LL6 - (just a regular dreadnaught body) - and it "fits" the case fine!

This is a great case all around. You can tell that great thought has been put into this case at every detail except for one thing... the latches. They look great and are smooth, BUT be careful you don't leave it open and accidentally hit the end of it! Because it is so long (1.5-2 inches) and it's plastic, any impact on the end of an open latch (even slight) will cause it to break off the case. I did that with minimal impact and it cracked. The latches are made to be replaced, but you'll have to bend the foam back to gain access to the screws and the case will never be quite the same again. I wish I would have saved the money and bought the economy model. Since I keep my guitar in its case when I'm not playing it, I open and close the latches A LOT so the latches are important. Everything else about the case is so well thought out except for these plastic latches that don't seem built to last. If this case had smaller metal latches, it would be the "perfect case."

Comments about SKB Deluxe Universal Dreadnought Guitar Case:

This is a very well-built, highly protective case that has one major annoyance. It has almost no storage space. It has a little compartment in the usual place under the neck that will fit a capo, strings and some picks. But I can't fit a wrapped up cloth strap, not a big one, there or anywhere else in this case. Usually that can fit under the headstock, and I do usually force that in, but it's forced and probably not a good idea. This is my first molded case (I have many wooden cases), so I don't know if this is normal for this style of case, but I find it very annoying. I wish I'd bought something else.

Comments about SKB Deluxe Universal Dreadnought Guitar Case:

My 25 year-old Taylor 612 just survived a round trip (NY to Ireland) in great shape. The molded case is generously padded and lined, and surprisingly enough, lighter than my regular, hard shell case! The interior of the case is designed for a dreadnought-size instrument so I did make a couple of extra foam wedges for each side to cushion the 'narrow waisted' of my concert grand. They worked out perfectly. Would much rather have had the guitar in the cabin with me than in cargo, but that's no longer possible in today's airline world! This is a terrific alternative.
No issues with either baggage process at JFK or Shannon. They "Handled With Care."
I am very pleased with this case and highly recommend it.

Comments about SKB Deluxe Universal Dreadnought Guitar Case:

I would give the case five stars if not for this one reason. This case was purchased as a gift that was specifically requested by the person it is being given to. It was requested because of the quality of the brand. I was searching for a case that would fit a specific guitar. The description on the Musician's Friend website made it VERY difficult to know if this was the exact case I was looking for. The description did NOT give the model number, and the measurements were a little different than the ones on the SKB website. After chatting with two different customer service representatives and going through the case finder, I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase the case. When the case was delivered, what did I find on the box? The model number that I needed to know but no one could tell me. The model number 1-SKB18 should definitely be on the Musician's Friend website.

The case is fine except that the lid is warped or misshaped so that there is a quarter-inch gap between the lid and body along the bottom edge. I can see right into the case when it is latched closed. I'm sending it back.

Comments about SKB Deluxe Universal Dreadnought Guitar Case:

I've bought this case back in 2006 and it's the only acoustic case I use. I transport my guitar in it to practice, to shows, even across the country multiple times. You could say I'm a credible source.

Back in 2006, I was attracted by SKB's very confident lifetime warranty. What ultimately sold me was an SKB review I read in which a guy had his bass in an SKB on a trailer. While driving, the guitar fell onto the road and was run over. The case was destroyed, but the guitar was completely fine. Sure, that story seemed like a stretch, but it sold me. Since then, I bought two more SKB cases for other guitars.

Fast forward to 2014 as I write this. I just took my acoustic on a weekend trip to the beach in my 8-year-old SKB case. I've known for 8 years this thing is a tank. Well, how about water damage? Long story short, I took my guitar to the beach, forgot about it, and the tide rose. My case, guitar inside, was floating in the salt water, the wake crashing over it. No doubt in my mind - my guitar was murdered. I brought it to shore, opened it, and to my shock, the only water that was inside the case were the drips from opening it.

If 8 years and 3 SKB cases wasn't enough to convince me, I am certain now. I am so grateful I made this purchase, and will continue to do so. Do yourself a favor and never buy a case that isn't SKB.
