I feel like I have to come to defense of this product. I traveled from the USA to the UK with this case and had only minor "quirky" probelms. One was that it doesn't stand straight up. You have to lay it down if you're stopped in a line somewhere, which at ANY airport WILL happen. The other is its shape: kinda resembles a gun case. Both times I went through customs I was one of the few people stopped and questioned. But as far as its durability and reliabilty, I've been very happy with it. Some bags are a little to big to put in it. I used a Levy's leather gig bag and it fit perfect. If your bass is smaller, you may want to put a towel in the nose of this thing to provide for less shifting. I have had no warping or bowing of the case nor have I had the latches go bad. And lets face it: its an ATA approved flight! Make it work! You can spend three times that amount on an Anvil or Fender case for no more assurance that your bass will be safe. The Bass Safe is OK in my book!

I'm on my 3rd case (thank god for their lifetime warranty), I've sent 2 cases back (horrible latches on the first one, came down the airport baggage carousel in 3 pieces, front part of the case, back part of the case, and my bass guitar, this was the first time I used the case), a wheel came off the second case, and the third case had latch issues similar to my first case. I had to quit using them all together, I do a lot of fly dates, I can't trust the product at all. Unfortunate because I think it's a great idea.

      Excellent Idea, BAD LATCHES

      By bassplr

      from nashville, TN

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

I travel with two basses in a Gator double gig bag inside this case. The only problem I have had is with the latches getting bent during flight/baggage handling. SKB needs a better latch. Sounds like the other reviewers agree. Make sure you have some pliers available to bend the tabs on the latches to get them open. Other than that it's an outstanding case for travel. I try to hang around the TSA area while they are inspecting and suggest standing the case on it's nose to put the two halves back together. When the latches finally do break I will make use of the excellent warranty from SKB.Memo to SKB: LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!! RE-DESIGN THE LATCHES!!

      Great Idea--Bad Design

      By Bradley Hanback

      from Killen, AL

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

I really was excited to think that I might could avoid the heavy flight case with this SKB creation. However, I had a bass damaged by TSA due to the flawed design of the SKB case. The TSA person failed to properly reinsert the gig bag into the case after inspection and forced the two lids together damaging the headstock of my jazz bass. I was less than happy when I found the result of the carelessness of the TSA employee. I should have seen it coming due to the design of the case. SKB should build one for the bass like they did the acoustic and guarantee the contents up to $1500. Until then, I wouldn't recommend this case.

      Total junk!!!

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

Well, the way this was designed, is that if its used to store anything, it will seperate into 2 pieces because the latch system was designed by someone who has never actually used a fight case before. How it works is this, one piece fits over the other, and then latches to it... but if the inside piece ever flexes, the latches come apart. And it does flex. The idea of this case is good, but the execution is terrible. I can't stress this enough. You can't save this case from its terminal design flaw. Big waste of time and money. Avoid. I have an SKB rack, and it works. Stick to racks SKB. This product stinks and I feel taken for a ride.

      Avoid at all costs!!!

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

The worst case I've ever had the misfortune to come across. After being assured by SKB it'd take both models of my Ritter gig bags it wouldn't even take my small, lightly padded one.The catches don't stay closed for anyone or anything and the plastic warps and bends under the slightest pressure.I wouldn't trust it with a beginner bass, never mind my $3,000 Spector!!

      Great Case Poor Locks

      By Plucken

      from New Jersey

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

I now have to check my bass due to new carryon restrictions. Bought the SKB-44RW and used it this weekend from Newark to Chicago and back. Great design, great materials but TSA failed to relock the latches on both flights. Case came out of baggage in two pieces on both flights even after I asked for special handling after the 1st flight. If TSA cannot easily relock the case it is less than useless. SKB: great case but needs different locks. I am returning it and will try a different SKB product.

      Wonderful Product

      By Nate Fornette

      from Harvard, IL

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

What an excellent product. The SKB Bass Safe is a very well built case. The metal latches are a little unorthodox, but are well reinforced and recess into the case to prevent breaking. The wheels are very close to roller-blade wheels; semi-hard rubber, but very thin and manuverable. Padding on both the headstock and tail side of the case make for a better feeling of security. While it is not environmentally sealed, as one reviewer suggested, it will roll easily through standing water up to 8" or so without getting the inside wet. Great buy for any travelling bass player.

I have bought 4 of these cases!

      By The BassNinja

      from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

I have bought 4 of these cases, and each one of them now has broken wheels. The wheels have broken usually within 3 weeks of road usage. It comes down the luggage carousel, and I can see it right away! Another one bites the dust. I haven't bought another one since the last. I am on the road too much and if you are on the road a lot, this case can't withstand the beating. I love the idea though. I actually carry one around sometimes with no wheels and just haul it like a regular bass case because the cool thing is I still have my gigbag in it.So , I leave the case in the hotel room and just use my gig bag as much as possible. It's too bad...i think they have a great idea, just cheaply made.

Great case - how about a double?

      By Steve York

      from Minneapolis / Puerto Vallarta

Comments about SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Roller Case:

I've wanted something like this for years. I've flown 6 times with this case and it's a dream. It's also totally airtight so your bass neck is not affected by temperature & pressure changes. I took it from cold Minnesota to hot Mexico and after my bass had been in Mexico for 3 hours I took it out of the case and it was still cold. The only reason I am not giving it a 10 overall is because if it was just a little bigger it would hold two basses and still be easy to carry/or roll. I am not the only bassist that has this on their wish list. How about it SKB?
