Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

If you're getting the Fender Six-String banjo or anything nicer, get this case. The latches are great and the case is extremely well-made. Worth every dime.

    disappointed

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

i bought this case and found i had the same problem as the first reviewer - the metal seal did not line up and there was gap about 5mm wide at the top. Am sending it back. If anyone else has also had this problem and then gone on to find a hardcase they are happy with please let me know which one - i'm flying in a couple of months so i need to find something soon! thanks

    Excellent Case

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

I have never owned a hardshell case. This is my first. I was really wild about plywood case. Then I saw this one and ultimately decided it was the one. It just came in today. It is very well designed. I love the easy to latch latches. The lock functions well. Would be good for air travel. As with any universal case, its a given to expect the instrument not to be a perfect fit. However, my banjo fits very nicely, with very little 'play'. I am a perfectionist and am considering wrapping a thin piece of foam with a plush material like that of the lining, and sewing it in where the resonator sits so the banjo would have a more snug fit. However, I don't know if it is loose enough to go to that trouble.Like I said, i just got the case, haven't had the chance to use it yet. I just know my instrument fits nicely, the storage compartment is plenty of space for my tuner, some picks, etc. The latches work very nicely. It is light weight. And seems very solid. Again, this is my first hard case. However, I feel comfortable in saying the extra money was worth the plastic construction. I have tried to be as thorough as possible. Hope this was helpful.

    I returned it

    By Chris Murray

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

It fit my resonator banjo well, I just didn't like the interlocking metal edge that formed the seal between the lid and the bottom half. If I didn't line up the metal channels just right, the weight of the banjo made it sag open a little when I picked it up. Maybe the one I got was defective, but the shell was not all that rigid, so I am going to try a heavier case.I think if you have a lighter banjo it would be fine - mine has a heavy tone ring.

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

Sooo..O.K. .. I couldn't part with this SKB case! it is so well made! I just used a little ingenuity and 'built' a 'pillow' for the base using the fabric and foam from a pillow off the living room coach.. (don't tell the wife..)
Now my Deering Jumbo Six Banjo is fitting snug as a bug! Great quality in SKB Cases!

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

This is a high quality case for the money.. plush and well cushioned.. great functional lock mechanisms that I haven't seen before.. Very Kool.. Only problem I had was it's to big for my Deering Jumbo Six string banjo : (
Keep in mind, the Deering Jumbo is a 'BIG' banjo.. 12" head.. the case is still to big and I'm sad about that..
this is.. was.. a real keeper, but unfortunately I'm having to send it back for a smaller case.. hopefully as good as this one..

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

I wanted a good banjo case to replace a gig bag that came with my Ventura banjo I got as a gift. I ordered a hardshell case for a 5-string and also this case missing the fact that it is supposed to be for a 6-string banjo. As it turns out, the hardshell case wasn't a good fit for my banjo (the neck pressed against the top of the case more than I liked, so I returned it), but this SKB case worked great. It appears well made and protects my banjo very well.

As to the previous comments about the metal "lip" where the case closes: yes -- if you aren't careful, it sometimes won't line up and if you force the case closed, you could damage the lip. Having read those reviews, I ALWAYS double check the lip before I latch the case and I haven't had ANY problems. Just take a few extra seconds when packing up and you'll be fine. This is a really nice case.

Comments about SKB Universal 6-String Banjo Case:

Great value for universal banjo case. Most often my instrument is on a stand but is a secure place to store during periods of infrequent use. Closures are positive snap with two stage release I thought nice. By two stage, the clasps don't just pull up - a required finger depressing a release button must simultaneously be used. This prevents accidental opening of latches when the case might slide around a bit in movement. I'd prefer a bit more flash on the color availability but the industry is standardized any color as long as its black.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend anyone considering a new or replacement case to give this a try. It is much better than the cardboard flimsy units.
