I was first turned on to this stand by an itinerant Music Festival sound engineer who used it exclusively. On the drums, I too often get sagging mic stands. Or I get ones that stay in place, but see the look of fear in the eyes of the Sound Guy if I attempt to ADJUST the stand in any way. He'll rush over and say, "let me do that!" Can't blame him! These folks are used to flimsey stands that fail as soon as someone tightens the clutch too hard; and most musicians DO tighten them too hard. A lot of stands just won't hold unless you tighten them like a gorilla (unless you are luckey enough to get a brand new one.) They just wear out. And they wear out FASTER when they are overtightened.

What's really cool about this stand is when you tighten the boom clutch, you can FEEL how firm it is with a low-effort twist. Same with the thumb screw that adjusts the boom length. It STAYS PUT. And it doesn't beg you to tighten it hard.

But more than that, it seems to stand up to gorillas as well! I asked the sound guy who first put one in front of me where I could get one - and he wouldn't shut up about how much he liked them -- because he stopped worrying about having to REPLACE them. He literally said, "I'm not afraid to let musicians adjust these because they can't kill them."

Caveat: they are expensive. Just about too expensive. But I was convinced to spend the dough because this sound guy spent the dough. He now uses them exclusively and says it has actually saved him money in the long run - because they are so durable.

Can you tell I like this stand?

    so far so good!

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

I've been using the cheap stands for a long time, and didn't realize what I was missing. The fittings all seem to stay nice and tight, and I never have that "help, my microphone is sinking!" moment mid-song. I move back and forth between guitar and piano, and the stand adjusts easily, and stays where I put it. I definitely recommend this stand.

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

This is just a great no nonsense mic stand. It stays where you put it and it's nice and heavy and solid. I'm glad I got a couple of these already and I'm planning on gettin more as I need them.
I feel like I could just kick this thing and it would just laugh at me. Right out of the box you can tell it's going to be a good product. It's nice and heavy, all the clamps are well built and hold like there's no tomorrow. All in all it's a very sturdy stand and stays where I put it with no problems, just like a good mic stand should.
More expensive than some, less expensive than others. I've bought a stand and it broke within a couple of months. I was a little apprehensive about putting this much into a mic stand but I'm glad I did. If first impressions mean anything this thing is going to last for a long time. Well worth the money to buy something that will last for years rather than spend less on one that will only last a couple of months.

Tama MS205 are the ones to buy

    By Bruce Gavin

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

First rate quality and heavy duty construction.
The Tama are hands-down superior in every way.
I first bought the six-pack of budget stands that came with the zipper case.
It turns out the case was the only part of value.
The budget stand clutches are pure junk.
I own three Tama boom stands and one shorty for drum mics.
These are built like Hummers and hold up over the long haul.
The clutches are well thought out, rugged, and never require a gorilla with vise grips for tightening.
At the MF selling price, plus free shipping, the Tama are a real steal.
I wish they offered the shorty, but do not.

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

This thing is just stupid solid, right out of the box you can tell. It's assembly pieces seem safer than others," like it will last much longer. I go through about a mic stand a year and I finally decided to spend a bit more (even though this is still a pretty moderately priced stand) and get this one because I have the ""shorty"" version of this that I use to mic my amp and occassionally my drummer's snare. I had never seen a stand that solid", so I went for this one and I am not let down a bit!

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

it has the standard adjustment hardware, tripod base, and very well made and sturdy. Looks built to last for what I do.
again, this is a well made stand with a good weight to it. Since I don't try to beat up my equipment, this stand will probably last me until my kid starts a band and destroys it, just to see if he can do it.
IMO - this is the best value mic stand. Can't beat this stand for quality/price. I'm am acoustic solo/duo and normally bought "cheap" stands, but decided to get a good stand for gigs going forward since the gaskets wear out on the cheap ones. I am very happy with my purchase and the chrome is sharp.

Look no further.... this is the only stand you need. I use it five nights a week, constantly changing positions for vocals between guitar and keys. It is simply the best.

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

This stand is phenomenal! It came in a very timely manner and was packed very well. Right out of the box you barely have to assemble anything so you can use it right away. This thing is super sturdy!! I could probably sit on it and it would not bend. It is a tad heavy, so if you are looking for something lightweight then I would look elsewhere. But other than that it is an amazing stand, a little pricey but if you have the cash then I would say definitely go for it. If I had enough money or the need, my entire band room would be filled with these mic stands.

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

Always took my stand for granted and learned to live with the sinking mic, tipping, hard to loosen adjusters. I use an Elvis mic which is heavy and this stand has no problem keeping it in place. It's easy to adjust and sturdy. Sorry I didn't invest in a quality stand sooner, makes life easier for sure.

Comments about Tama MS205 Heavy-Duty Boom Mic Stand:

I like this stand, it looks nice, feels nice, and preforms nice. You might not think it can hold very much weight at first glance, but if tighten the hinges it works just fine. It also has great reach for the drummer like myself. Overall, great stand for a good price.
