OVERVIEW

Smoothness. Adjustability. Stability.

Few pedals have ever been as instantly popular as Tama's Speed Cobra. In the world of bass pedal design, speed and power had long been contrary qualities. One could not be accomplished without compromising the other. Speed Cobra was the first to break those boundaries, delivering both aggressive power and lightning fast speed!

The Speed Cobra HP910LWN is a double-kick drum pedal for the serious player. The extra long, smooth surface footboards provide added leverage that minimize player effort, and encourage a wide variety of foot-slide techniques. The pedal's solid foundation can be attributed to its Super Stabilizer design that incorporates a wider baseplate and frame for absolute stability. At each pedals heel, the specially designed 3-piece Hinge Guard Block provides a more durable hinge point and slightly lengthens the footboards for enhanced speed and control.

At the heart of the Speed Cobra HP910LWN is its recessed setting feature, which positions the top of each footboard back and away from the cams, resulting in a more natural and easy motion than conventional designs. The unique LiteSprocket Rolling Glide symmetrical cam incorporates a double-chain, which together with the HP910LNs longer footboard provides maximum speed and power throughout the entire cycle of the pedals stroke. The Speedo-Ring rocker cam is yet another example of streamlining, eliminating spring friction with a high-quality, built-in ball bearing rocker. The HP910LWN's Quick-Hook spring attachment eliminates wobbling, provides maximum power transmission to the Speedo-Ring, and helps facilitate quicker setup. To further improve speed and beater stroke action, the adjustable Cobra Coil spring-return constantly works to push the footboard back to its original position, tightening the relationship between players foot and the pedal.

Perhaps one of the most ingenious developments of the Speed Cobra HP910LWN is its Swivel Spring Tight tension-locking mechanism, which are designed to rock or swivel, allowing freer spring movement and a smoother overall feel. The smartly redesigned Accu-Strike Cobra Beater provides a powerful precise strike, which produces a sharper, more explosive sound on contact. Finally, the Speed Cobra brings an end to makeshift methods of trying to protect the bass drum hoop: the Para-Clamp II Pro holds the pedal securely to the bass drum hoop without slipping and scratching, thanks to an enlarged rubber padded clamp piece.

The Speed Cobra HP910LWN includes a custom hardshell carrying case for safe transport.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra 910 Double Bass Drum Pedal:

This is by far the best Tama Speed Cobra pedal I've played on and I've played and owned them since day one! I have been playing drums for nearly 15 years and play in a Alternative/Metal/Hard Rock band and I've went through quite a few different pedals. I was having a battle between the Speed Cobra, Iron Cobra and Axis XL double pedals. I liked the Axis quite a bit, mainly the only reason why i didn't like them was the amount of adjustments on the pedal itself. It does take however a little bit of time to transfer over from Chain Driven Pedals to Direct Drive. Direct Drive is very responsive and give zero slack like it does with chain driven pedals when you lift up the footplate. The Axis are good, and love the 12" foot board and you can play anywhere on the pedal. However the lack of adjustments is disturbing. Two adjustments against the Speed Cobra which is Five or more. For four and a half years i have been in the battle between all three. I tried the Power Glide for a little bit and i found that i liked the Rolling Glide better. Sold that got a Rolling Glide then decided to get the Speed Cobra. I loved it and wanted to give the Axis another try. I bought the Axis XL2 Longboards and played with them for a little over a year and finally decided that i'm going to get rid of them and never play on them again. I bought a Iron Cobra Rolling Glide single just until i saved up to get the Speed Cobra again. Then the Brand new Iron Cobra's and Speed Cobra's came out and i got super jacked to try them out so i was thinking, so i get the Speed Cobra's or the Iron Cobra's? I went with the Speed Cobras and i got to tell you, I LOVE these things. I like them a lot better than the Axis by far, I love the Rolling Glide cams. Pedal is Smoother than the previous models, response quicker, the power is awesome, and love the tension spring swivel (have it maxed out. Honestly, for only receiving them today and playing for 4 hours. A MUST!! You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra 910 Double Bass Drum Pedal:

Didn't even realize till it showed up in my Facebook Memories that it was 5 years ago today I hooked my new Speed Cobra's to my kit for the first time. I tried them on the advice of another drummer after I broke one of the upright supports on another brand I was using (during a show, of course), ordered em' from MF and figured I'd give them a shot... In those 5 years I've replaced springs once, the beaters a few times, add a drop of oil to moving parts periodically, I'm not a light player and they're still taking all the abuse I can dish out! Hundreds of shows, several trips to the studio, practices, and still going. I've been playing for over 40 years and have never owned a pedal with that kind of endurance or that I was still happy with after that much time, and to be quite honest I didn't expect it from these either. Maybe I'll write another review when the finally do fail just to let everyone know just how much abuse they'll take before they break.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra 910 Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I purchased the Speed Cobras in 2013. I had been using Pearl Eliminators for about 8 years at that point, and I had no issues with them, but I thought I'd see what all the fuss over longboard pedals were I play metal.

Out of the box they outperformed my Eliminators... at first. The pedals are light, and they are definitely fast and powerful; no false advertisement there. If you're like me, though, and prefer a road-worthy product, and like to mess around with pedal settings until you've found the perfect settings, these pedals will disappoint.

Long story short the Speed Cobras fell apart after adjusting them about 15 times. The Cobra Coil housings cracked as they're made of plastic, the right side spring tension nut stripped as it's made of plastic, the right side beater distance adjustment screw stripped as the pedals are made with cheap metal parts, and last but not least the drive shaft squeaked... and I'm no stranger to pedal lubrication and proper maintenance.

In less that a year the Speed Cobras were rendered useless for me. I've made adjustments to my Pearl Eliminators over 100 times and they've held up to my adjustments and live performances. Nothing has ever broke, stripped, or squeaked on my Pearls. How Tama can justify using plastic parts and pot metal on the one piece of hardware that experiences the most use and abuse baffles me. By the way the pedals are made in China, and if you know ANYTHING about quality, China is not where it's at. That should have been a red flag for me from the start. For it's price you're better off saving for a couple more months and getting a DW 9000 or MDD, Pearl Demon Drive, Axis, or Trick pedal, all of which will hold up to rigorous playing, handling, and adjusting.

Go with the Pearl Eliminator or the DW 5000 if you seriously can't spend more on double pedals. In the end I made more adjustments to my Eliminators and was able to get them to play like the Speed Cobras. Please save your money an look elsewher

Played at a gig and spring broke at the top. Had to make due and rig it. Then the spring broke on the bottom
The spring is junk. The rest of pedal excellent. Buy new springs if you get this pedal.

Comments about Tama Speed Cobra 910 Double Bass Drum Pedal:

I bought this pedal after owning iron cobras, dw9000s, and pearl demon drives (Direct Drive). To me these feel smooth, hard hitting (can also be soft), and they are so easy to set up. Out of the box they were set up great, not my style, however I was easily able to change them into my own. The ability to adjust the beater placement and foot-board height separately is amazing. You could spend hours trying out all of the combinations. For me, I am a more heavy hitter that needs good speed for double bass so I put the footboard a little higher that stock out of the box, and put the beaters closer to the head. I also increased the spring tension, which is just as easy as all of the other adjustments, to about 75%.

My only con for these pedals, which doesn't even affect me, is that the foot board isn't a very flat service all over the board. With shoes you will never know, but just hopping on the kit to quickly practice, or if you are a bare foot/socks player, you might find these pedal boards to be slightly uncomfortable.

All in all, what you get for the price is way more than any other company will give you. You get the fully adjustable double pedal, a great drum key tool that mounts to your slave pedal, and the best, in my opinion, hard carrying case on the market. Try these pedals out, you will NOT be disappointed.

I was a dw3002 pedal user who decided to change to a high quality pedal without an exaggerated budget. I couldn't be more happy with the decition of buying this pedal. Is a very well build pedal with lots of adjustments options, lots of power, speed, and awesome feel.
