Wow, what a DIFFERENCE these strings make!

Comments about Thomastik JF346 Flatwound Scale 6-String Jazz Bass Strings:

I've got good news and I've got bad news.At the urging of George Furlanetto, the maker of Fbasses, I decided to try Thomastik-Infeld Electric Bass Nickel Flat Wound Roundcore 6 Strings (.033 - .136, JF346) for the first time. He said that Alain Caron likes them, so I put them on my 6 string fretless Fbass AC6, the Alain Caron model. The good news is I LOVE them. In fact, I can't see myself going with anything else on this, or my other 2 fretless basses. The bad news is these strings cost an arm and a leg. If they go on sale again, I'd buy more, but if they aren't on sale, I'm not so sure. For now, I'm waiting to see how long they last. If they last awhile, these might well be my new strings for all my fretless basses, because they are REALLY something special. With the piezos, the strings make the bass sound very much like an upright, and I play the double bass and would not say that if it wasn't the case. With the magnetic pickups, the strings still sound bright and somewhat Jaco-like, enough to do what you want to do with an electric. The strings have a soft feel about them, and they have much less finger squeaking noise than other strings I've tried. Their tone is really remarkably good; they'll breath new life into your fretless basses. Seriously, their only drawback seems to be their price.

Expensive yes, but worth it

Comments about Thomastik JF346 Flatwound Scale 6-String Jazz Bass Strings:

I looked all over for flatwounds for my 6-string fretless. I was looking for the sound of an upright and got it in these strings. The think is that I got them for sound but the comfort of them will keep me buying them for ever. Also, they have lasted unbelievably long. I am a once a month to once every 3 month string changer, depending on how much gigging I am doing. I put these on about 6 months ago and still not needing to change them.... worth the money.
