Comments about TonePros Standard Locking Tune-o-matic/Tailpiece Set (small posts/notched saddles):
Installed on a high end Hamer Newport Pro equipped from the factory with good Gotoh hardware. Before even plugging in to an amp I could hear acoustically the improvement in sustain. I was surprised. My main purpose for installing TonePros was to keep the bridge height from changing and to keep the tail piece from falling off when changing strings. I was skeptical on the claims of better acoustics but it really does make a difference.
If you have a Nashville Tune-o-Matic carefully choose your style of replacement! First the bridge posts are either small diameter or a larger diameter. The larger posts have a slot on top for a screwdriver. Secondly you can have either metric or SAE threads. This specific kit is for small posts and SAE threads. TonePros does not offer a small post bridge with metric threads. Their large post set is metric threads.
Oddly the bridge posts were the correct thread for the studs installed in the guitar but the tailpiece threads did not fit. The good news is that the original studs work just fine with the TonePros tailpiece. I don't know if the original guitar installation was a mix of metric and SAE or if the TonePros was packaged incorrectly.
The holes in the TonePros bridge for the posts is .01 inches closer than the original. I've measured the Gotoh and the Tonepros to verify the spacing is different. This made for a very difficult installation of the bridge. Nothing can be done to alter the factory stud installation in the guitar top. The spec for tune-o-matic bridge is ever so slightly wider for Nashville style, but the TonePros seems to use the original ABR bridge spec. The adjusters were difficult to turn as the bridge got lower. I almost gave up so as not to crack the guitar top but with careful small adjustments one side then the other I was able to walk the bridge down. I believe this is a spec problem in the TonePros T3BP bridge which is in this specific set LPCM04.
The bridge itself is a nice improvement over the standard Nashville style. The saddle adjusters are more precise and a tighter fit for less vibrating. The tailpiece feels the same weight and looks the same as the original factory part except for the added set screws.
The locking set screw angle is parallel to the guitar top. Use great care when adjusting the set screws so you don't scratch the top of your guitar with the little allen wrench!
I would buy this again and would recommend it with the caveat you ensure you get the correct threads for your guitar and use great care installing it, especially tightening the set screws. Most USA built guitars seem to have SAE threads whereas most imports seem to have metric.
Comments about TonePros Standard Locking Tune-o-matic/Tailpiece Set (small posts/notched saddles):
I use a generous amount of palm-muting in my playing. This bridge makes palm-muting so much easier because it expands the range of control I have over the dampening with my right hand. When I'm not palm-muting, the sustain is incredible. With good frets, I can hammer endlessly with this bridge. I don't know how hard it is to add to a guitar, mine was a gift and came with this bridge. But you're sure there's any way to put it on your guitar, DO IT!!
Comments about TonePros Standard Locking Tune-o-matic/Tailpiece Set (small posts/notched saddles):
I have a 2005 Gibson Melody Maker (great guitar) that I have been modding just to get a little more out of it (Tim Taylor disease). If I would've installed this set first I could have saved some time and money on other mods. An almost unbelievable improvement in overall tone and sustain. I can actually feel the sustain through the guitar body now.Any other Tune-o-matic's in my future will get this set as part of the initial setup job.A little on the expensive side but I feel worth every penny!
Comments about TonePros Standard Locking Tune-o-matic/Tailpiece Set (small posts/notched saddles):
This part is so sweet! Because it locks in place, this bridge will actually increase sustain and improve tone and playability. I thought I was playing another instrument! One warning: the nut saddles may need to be filed down if you use strings lighter than 11's (9's or 10's will probably slip out of place when bending or strumming hard.
Comments about TonePros Standard Locking Tune-o-matic/Tailpiece Set (small posts/notched saddles):
First off be very careful that you order the right one. Gibson lists the Faded SG Special as having the Tune-O-matic on their website but it actually has the ABR-1 bridge. I ordered the wrong bridge and had opened the blister card before I relised the diffrence. My SG now has a Tune-o-matic bridge. This switch requires you drill some holes out on the top of your guitar. Don't go there if you don't have to! Order the ABR-1 replacement or make sure you've got the right one. This thing is great as once you have your bridge set up the way you want it you lock it down and it stays put. You can destring completely, clean and restring with out worry of messing up the bridge setup. The entire setup is first class with very tight tolarences on the saddles. A little pricey but a "BIG" Improvement over stock.
