Comments about Vater Wood Handle Whip:

I bought these because I was tired of vacuuming up splinters from my Promark Hot Rods, and I wanted a comparable product. I found that although these are similar to Hot Rods, they produce a much different sound than my Hot Rods. I get great sound and volume from my snare and toms, but cymbal/hi-hat response is very quiet (which is understandable because the ends of these are plastic). I like that they have a wood handle and an adjustable plastic ring. Overall, I like them as another sound option because I play in a variety of settings...so I am adding them to my assortment of Promark Hot Rods, Regal Tip Brushes, and my Promark Broomsticks.

Comments about Vater Wood Handle Whip:

These are great for playing that shuffling, Johnny Cash/JJ Cale type of beats. Louder than brushes, better feel than those wooden hot rods.

Comments about Vater Wood Handle Whip:

Great option for dynamic variations within a song. With the bristles, you can go to lower volumes. Turn the stick to the butt side and you can increase the intensity of your playing or play cross stick. Excellent construction and sound consistency.

Good Brush, the metal Ferrule I could do without

Comments about Vater Wood Handle Whip:

I picked up the Vater Whip and while it does what I would expect it to do, it had one aspect that I didn't particularly care for and that was the metal ferrule used to hold the poly strands in place. Before I had realized it I had accidentally put two or three dings into the die cast hoop on my snare. I "fixed" the problem by covering the ferrule with some vinyl tape, but suffice it to say, when it comes time that I need a replacement, while I will still buy Vater, I'll get the plastic handled model.
