When piecing together a pedalboard, I spent a ton of time researching different boards and products to power my pedals. I ultimately decided to buy the voodoo labs 2 plus and pedaltrain, since these two can be paired together with the pedaltrain's accompanying brackets. My main concern with a self powered pedalboard was the noise and feedback, and this alternative was perfect.

Voodoo labs is amazing. I'm able to power my board without any noise while mounting the power underneath the board as to not takeup pedal real estate.

I couldn't be happier. If youre investing in your pedals, you owe it to yourself to grab one of these. You won't regret it!

If you're curious about installment of this voodoo labs pack specifically with pedaltrain, check out youtube. You'll find instructions to walk you through.

The wah issue is a big deal for me. I have to give a lower rating because of it. I sold my unit and bought a DC Brick and couldn't be happier. That unit can power 7 pedals at 9V and 3 pedals at 18V at the same time. The Pedal Power can't do that. While it's nice that the Pedal Power can run some pedals with power consumption needs that are outside the norm, most pedals are 9 or 18V, which makes the DC Brick a great option. And since it doesn't make my wah pedals hum, it's even better, for a lot lower cost.
Nice flexibility on the different voltage settings. Can power any number and combination of pedals that some other units might not be able to accomplish.

One drawback is the lack of dedicated 18V outlets. You have to take up 2 outlets with a special cable to power a pedal at 18V.
In general, this unit power pedals very cleanly and has low noise...unless you're using a wah pedal in its proximity. I've built two pedalboards using this supply and on both, the wah pedal picks up a very loud hum when engaged. Voodoo Lab says it's because the wah's inductor isn't properly shielded. While that may be the case, other power supplies do not seem to have this problem. Same pedals, same boards, but using the DC Brick? No hum at all. I have to give low marks on quality if they couldn't properly sheild the power supply so it doesn't interfere with a wah. Voodoo's answer was that I should invest in MuMetal foil and plating to sheild my wah. How about Voodoo invests in that same sheilding and encase their unit in it? This issue makes the power supply useless for me.
Because it is able to power some pedals that other boards can't: TC Nova Delay or Nova Mod, for instance, and some Line6 pedals, this is a good value. But I have to take some points off for not being able to use a wah near it.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

Nice design (internally) and very high-quality strip-wound toroidal powwer transformer. As an engineer, first thing I did was open it up to investigate build and component quality. I decided afterward there was no way I could improve on it for the task. Great product. Period. Have two now.

Outstanding! The Pedal Power 2+ solved all my ground loop issues!

By Adam Manoucheri

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

The Pedal Power 2+ is quite simply the best power supply I have used...I have a variety of power requirements in my rack, and this takes care of them all with clean and quiet power. Finally someone realizes it isn't too much to ask to get a product right...
Has pretty much everything one would need, certainly more than I needed...but options are always good if they're done right! The isolated ground connections are the KEY--I spent a lot of money on a Carl Martin Big John, which I had NOTHING but problems with--and replacement with this solved every single on of them. The issue with the former is that, sure, the transformer had isolated 9V windings to each output, but every single ground was tied together. Why bother with the expensive tranny then?? I wish I would've cracked it open earlier...or better yet, bought the Pedal Power unit to begin with. The 120V outlet is a nice touch as well, and it quietly powers my tape echo unit without breaking a sweat.
Built like a tank, plain and simple. It's been through some abuse in my rack, and it doesn't even show a single scar.
Absolutely worth it--I would have spent 3 times the amount at the point of frustration I had reached...luckily I didn't have to!

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

I use it to power all standard 9V pedals... 10 or so. I had to get a daisy chain cable to get some of them hooked up, but that's a cheap way to add more pedals to it. I just made sure I daisy chained pedals together that would not all be used at the same time... like Chorus + Flanger + Tremolo
Nice to have all the DIP switches for different power options, but I leave them all on the defaults
So far, awesome.
Seems a little pricey.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

I dig this product and I would buy another one without any hesitation if it were stolen or some freak accident or somethung. I highly recommend it and have not had any problems with my first one which is now going 5yrs and its constantly being use rehearsals and almost every weekend gigs.
Features are excellent, 1-4 slots have a consistent current availability of 100ma each.
5-6 slots have consistent current availability of 250ma each! Which is great for my Boss DD-20 and RT-20. Those Boss double pedals require high current consumption. And 7-8 slot have 100ma each as well as sag adjustments for Voltage which is great for overdrive/distortion pedal experimentation. no Buzz, no Hums, unless you're using a typical single coil strat. But as far as pedal ground buzz/hum issue, there's none at all! It also comes with cool sets of cables that fit all the standard pedal manufacturers. Awesome! Oh, I almost forgot, it also has a 120V-240V switch just in case your gigging somewhere in Europe pretty cool eh!
Built well, thought out well. Thumbs up for Voodoo lab engineer's.
could be a little less but it was well thought out

Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

This power supply is the ONLY way to go.
Isolated grounds not only eliminated the noise that I had in my pedalboard, but also eliminated any cross-talk (such as that from sonething like tuner LEDs scanning).
Every effect benefited from this power upgrade-not sure if it's just because there is no more noise, but all my effects sound pristine and much more defined.
GET IT!
Giving this a "9" because it doesn't seem as if the cables provided grab tightley enough when plugged into the brick. Hopefully this will never become a problem.
Nice being able to run pedals @ 18 volts like suggested by the manufacturer.
Same as above.
Otherwise, good qualitly build.
Solid.
Would have liked for it to have been less expensive.
170.00 seems like a lot for a fancy adapter.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

People will say that isolated power supplies such as these are great because of the reliable and effective source of power for your pedals, which is true, but I think they're even greater for their reduction of clutter across your board. Gone are the tangle of daisy chain wires and one spots and singular power adapters, this will make your board A LOT more clutter free. This is especially true if you install it underneath your board. Now, personally I had no knowledge that you're required to drill your own holes in the bottom of your board (assuming your board is arched upward, like with most pedaltrains) in order to mount the power supply to it. This is only a minor grievance but I kind of wish it was broadcast a bit more clearly. It makes me wonder why Pedaltrain hasn't just started a line of boards with prefab holes on the bottom (of varying sizes and dimensions) to accommodate musicians who want power supplies attached to their boards.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

I put this purchase off for too long. One concern was the close proximity of PP2 and Cry Baby 535Q, and the sometimes reported noise. While there is a bit of wash or white noise when the wah is used in conjunction with distortion pedals, it is not nearly as great as I've feared, even on the smaller PT Jr board. The befits far outweigh this slight noise gain, because each pedal is cleaner, clearer and more powerful than when using a well known daisy chain power supply.

I have no transistor type fuzz boxes, where the SAG feature is said to be most effective, but by starving my modded Maxon OD9 (Tube Screamer) to around 6 volts I was able to attenuate it to dial in the effect I desired, perfectly. I also have my wah plugged into the other SAG output for when I want a more subtle tone shaping effect rather than the full on wah effect, and it's easy to turn on or off by the tiny switches on the bottom of the unit, which are easy to access.

I've replaced the power cord with a longer, heavy duty one, and it's an improvement I recommend Voodoo upgrade to, as the one it comes with isn't very long.

One other change I'd suggest is placing the two SAG intensity controls in an accessible location when mounted to a Pedaltrain board. As it is, they can not be accessed once mounted. Thankfully they can be preset and then flipped on or off from the bottom.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with this product.

Comments about Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2+ Power Supply:

This power supply delivers as promised: no hum or noise, as the outputs are all isolated for ground as well.
my previous powersupply, not Voodoolabs, did not have that, and therefor did produce unwanted hum.
I connected the outputs 7and 8 together using the (optional) voltage-doubling cable, and then reduced each output to about 7V, for a total of 14V. This gives very good results for the Fulltone GT-500 (which sounds a bit thin on 9V, but too aggressive on 18V. Nice feature to be able to adjust voltage a bit down from 18V in this way!
All other outputs 1-6 run on standard setting 9V.
Output 6 powers the new TC Flashback X4 delay, which is rated at 300mA, runs ok.
