ddrum was born in 1983 amid the rapidly-increasing popularity of electronic music and the then-new MIDI standard. Originally, the company was part of Clavia and made digital drums and triggers. However, ddrum's move to the Armadillo family in 2005 saw their product lineup expanded dramatically, and today they make world-class acoustic drums used by musicians as prominent as Vinnie Paul, Shawn Drover and Tim Yeung. One of the most versatile offerings from ddrum is the Hybrid shell pack, which combines their technical expertise in electronic drums with a traditional acoustic set. This six-piece drum kit comes with everything you need to get started even if you're new to drumming, and the acoustic/electric design allows you to connect your kit to recording hardware through shell-mounted XLR jacks.
Maybe you're looking for a good acoustic drum starter set? If so, check out the Journeyman series. Several different configurations are available in this collection, including one with twin bass drums that's sure to get you off on the right foot if you're a metalhead. The Journeyman sets use basswood shells that deliver strong, punchy percussion sounds. Maybe you'd like to take advantage of alder, a tonewood that's long been prized by vintage guitar and bass collectors for its tight, balanced sound. In that case, turn your attention to the Reflex kits. Or, if you're after a high-end import, feast your ears on the ddrum Paladin shell packs. These come in 5-piece sets with your choice of maple or walnut shells, and a 6-piece ensemble in maple.
For most drummers, instrument selection involves careful selection with a lot of mixing and matching. That's why ddrum makes specialty snares that are in a category all their own. If you like the snappier, crisper sound of a metal snare, consider the Reflex Tattooed Lady all dressed up in black steel, or any of the Vintone snare series, which come in steel, aluminum and nickel-over-brass varieties. For drummers who prefer the warm, rich rattle of a wooden shell, there are the ddrum Dios snares, made from maple or bamboo. ddrum has also cut their teeth on more exotic instruments with their selection of 6" diameter deccabons, which make a great addition to any drum set.
Whether you're looking for some of those to expand your existing drum set, a new snare perfectly chosen for just the sound you need or one of ddrum's flagship shell packs to build your kit from the ground up, you won't go wrong here. With quality that speaks for itself, ddrum's lineup is full of acoustic drums that any drummer can be proud to own and play.
