I recently purchased this looking for a jazz amp. I couldn't believe the volume coming out of such a small package. The tone is incredible, especially with an ibanez artcore. You just can't beat a classic tube amplifier.
I've had this amp for a few years now. It holds its own in almost any high volume setting and is great in the studio for a nice thick guitar sound, even with single-coil pickups. My only issues are with the single tone knob (not quite enough control) and the tremolo, which is choppy and almost unusable unless really subtle. But the tone is magnificent and if you like an amp that breaks up early, this is the amp for you! Bummer, because I think Ampeg has discontinued it.
Recently picked up an Ampeg Superjet SJ 12R model. I've always been a Fender guy but this amp has plenty of great tube tone and a little more power than comparably priced Fender amps such as the Hot Rod Deluxe. It definitely sounds better than the Fender Blues Deluxe and Deluxe Reverb RI. It's compact, powerful and a great overall value. It has all the controls you need and nothing more. It has a great retro look so you will be the coolest cat in the band! So get a decent guitar and a couple of good pedals and start making noise!
Dang man, I work at a church and I found one of these babys in the attic a little while back. And I have to say it is sweet. Loud and super clear. I need to find what footswitch it needs tho. But man, If you want power this baby is it. I love it.
I have played quite a few tube amps and this Ampeg is certainly one of the best. Nice clean sound. If you want heavy distortion, you better buy a distortion pedal to go with it. Gets VERY loud!!
I play in a punk band and wanted a loud amp that gave out a nice tube tone. No dirty channel meant I got to create my own dirty tones by experimenting with different pedals and not pay for a dirty channel a hardly ever used on my previous tube amp.
