Comments about Ampeg V-4B All-Tube 100W Classic Bass Amp Head:

The Ampeg V-4B was at the very top of my list of all-tube amps that didn't break my back, or bank. I tested several units, all of which sounded fine. So, I ordered one. It came in with the face-plate cloth hanging off, and uses only cheap velcro to fasten it to the face of the head. Bad idea. This certainly won't survive the road. The switches, faceplate, internal construction, etc. are all cut-corners. Other than the case itself, and tubes, I found no reason to believe this was an Ampeg amp. Only the name-plate stated so. But this is only an Ampeg in sound and appearance, not in quality.

My unit was DOA. It would power on, and warm the tubes, but absolutely no output. I returned it and bought a Peavey VB-3, which is a MUCH better quality build, rock-solid, lighter, 300-Watts, and far more flexibility and control. it has survived the road for at least 6-months so far without a problem. Sorry, Ampeg, but your direction in business isn't a win-win, not that Peavey is perfect. But re-evaluate who your customers are (investors or musicians), and choose. Don't destroy your name.

Comments about Ampeg V-4B All-Tube 100W Classic Bass Amp Head:

I have always owned and played Ampeg amps, including several V-4's. While this amp looks and sounds great, and I would certainly recommend, they do NOT sound like the originals in a side-by-side comparison. The sound and power of the 7027A power tubes in the older amps is not matched with the 6L6 tubes being used currently.

Comments about Ampeg V-4B All-Tube 100W Classic Bass Amp Head:

            Hi there,

the new Ampeg V-4B is a great Reissue of the original one produced 40 years ago. The amplifier got a wonderful sound and is like the Ampeg SVT an absolutly must have for middle and greater events and performances. Why the new V-4B does not come with aluminum knobs seems to be a secret only Loud Inc. could anwser.

Anyway, who is interested in this typical kind of aluminum knobs should have a look to the following supplier: www.rotary-relaunch.com.

            Thanks for the article!

I've always loved Ampeg tube amps and was excited to see they were going to reissue the V-4B. I've now had mine for several months and could not be happier. The workmanship is flawless and I have had zero problems. Played through a variety of cabinets, that tube Ampeg sound always shines through. If you don't need a 300 watt SVT, this is the one!

Recently purchased this amp new from MF and it sounds wonderful through two Ampeg SVT 210AV cabs. No cosmetic defects or any problems whatsoever as mentioned in the previous review - no hum either. Don't let that review sway you, this is a serious tone machine that was perfect when I received it in fit, finish and sound. As for price, I think it's right about where it should be for an all-tube amp. Don't want to take my word for it? Venture over to talkbass.com where you can read more in-depth comments.

Comments about Ampeg V-4B All-Tube 100W Classic Bass Amp Head:

The amp looks just like the 1970's Ampeg V4b sans the original aluminum knobs (at least my early 70's model had heavy aluminum knobs) - a very good looking amplifier. Unit arrived undamaged in terms of packing and shipping but had several minor defects - mostly cosmetic due to a lack of proper quality control (opinion). But, the most disappointing thing is the low level hum - too loud to be used in a studio for recording. Sound is NOT the same as the 7027 output version from the 70's despite what Ampeg videos say. Although, sound is good. I think the amp is way overpriced when compared to the competition. In my opinion, I would only recommend this amp if priced much lower than the current "retail". I will be offering up a couple of videos on my Youtube channel in the next couple of days so you can decide for yourself whether this is something you want - I am keeping mine because I miss my old one and love the looks.
