Correction....

Comments about Bogner New Yorker 112 12W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a correction to my previous review. This amp has a SOLID PINE cabinet, not plywood as I stated. This really adds to the tweedy sound. Sorry.

Great sounding, versatile, lightweight- all good!

Comments about Bogner New Yorker 112 12W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp sounds great with humbuckers or single coils. My LP Special with P-90's is just insanely good through this amp. The schizo knob dials in blackface, brownface, and 2 types of tweed tones. It has a nice loose feel that suits my style of playing perfectly. Even with the volume dimed it does not lose definition with humbuckers. I put a Xotic effects BB Booster through the front end and even then it did not get mushy, although the gain on the pedal was only about half up. You could play some crunchy twang with single coils on the first two positions and get as gainy as you want to on the next two settings. The fact that it can be lifted easily with one hand is just icing on the cake. I can see playing small gigs easily with this thing as is and mic'ing it for larger stages.
Volume, tone, 4 way schizo switch, hi and lo power is pretty much all you need anyway.
I own another Bogner amp and it hasn't failed me yet. All plywood cabinet, tough covering, solid as a rock.
A bit pricey for such a low output amp (12 watts) without an effects loop or reverb, but the quality of the sounds it pumps out make it worth the price.

Versatile, lightweight, and tons of tone

Comments about Bogner New Yorker 112 12W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

If it had reverb I'd give it a 10, but nothing a small pedal can't solve. If you love your pedal board and want something simple and warm and portable, this is the ticket.
I prefer a more clean to crunchy tone, so if you're looking for the mega metal sound, you've got the wrong amp. If you want a warm, clean Class A amp that works extremely well with pedals and has plenty of low end for a small 35 lb amp, then look no further. It has simple controls - volume, tone and "Schizo", which are 4 presets from simple clean to early American Rock. I use a modified Blues Deluxe for crunch and a Zen Drive II for lead and it SCREAMS. Lots of bass considering it's an open back amp. I've also owned the Schiva, which is the KING of tone, but at 75 lbs it's not something you want to lug around. I also owned the Mesa Boogie Express 25, and the New Yorker sounds better. At 12 watts I was skeptical about whether it would be loud enough, but I just played two gigs in small clubs (mic'd the amp) and I never turned the volume more than 4.
Haven't owned it long, but it is solid and has only 3 knobs - less to worry about breaking.
This is relative. There are a lot of amps out there, but frankly none I've seen that will do the job of this one, except for maybe a Fender Deville 410 with a Power Attenuator. But in terms of size, you can't find something this small and portable with so much tone and bottom end.
