First off, I've played guitar for 18 years, and my tone is VERY important to me. I've heard this pedal bashed by a lot of people, but I can't help but think that they were looking for the wrong pedal. The tone this thing kicks out is amazing. A great example of this pedals ability is the chorus and solo in the song Dani California by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Listen to the solo in that, and if you like it: buy this pedal, if you dont: go buy something else. This isnt a metal distortion, and its really kind of more of a crunch or fuzz. Another thing you should know, this pedal in the 1 setting is NOT the same as a Ds-1. I own both, love both, and would never have just one of them. This pedal is a great purchase, and I would gladly buy it again should mine stop working, which will probably never happen since its built like a rock. The only downside I can think of is that it makes a lot of noise when I plug it in to the ac adapter I own, so you'll probably have to buy either a Boss adapter or just use batteries like I do (replace them before shows, you'll be fine.) Dont hesitate to buy this pedal.

This pedal is ok but there are a lot better pedals out there. This pedal is good for bigginer guitarist that would like to begin using pedals since its very easy to adjust. I'm saying this because I used to play a Squire Strat and with the pedal it made sound the guitar a lot heavier and more powerfull, but Then I bought an ESP with emg 81 and a new amp and when I played it with the pedal it sounded kinda weak and took a lot of my sustain, so I used it better with the distortion that the amp has it sound incredible! About the construction its really well built and will last years.Overall, you can buy this depnding of the type of gear and experience you have. I would recommend better the MXR Dime Distortion or if you buy this getting a compressor like the MXR M-135 Smart Gate.

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

i got the boss ds 2 a few months ago and i really found that it is an extremely cool pedal. This pedal takes a lot of playing with to get a good sound, and it really helps if you know what you are going for instead of just playing with knobs. the I mode is really great for heavy power-chord work and such, but when you kick it into II mode you can throw down one nasty solo. i got this pedal for a really good deal, but i would have easily paid full price for this awesome pedal.

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

Great distortion, from creamy overdrive to boosted mids for leads. Great for Nirvana sounding guitar and Chili Peppers. I like the Turbo II setting for getting that guitar solo distortion sound at the end of "Scar Tissue." Sounds just like it. This is easily in the top ten of Boss pedals. Frusciante uses this pedal from the pictures I've seen on his pedal board. If you like Yuck, Sonic Youth, Chili Peppers, Nirvana, etc, you will love this pedal.

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

I love this pedal, I play all kinds of stuff, like Red Hot Chili Peppers, and nirvana. stuff like that, and this pedal fit's it perfectly, nothing bad to say about it, i love it. I mostly use the Turbo mode, But when im doing some led zeppelin stuff I use the other mode and roll back the distortion, im using a amp that is built for "blues" but i can get real cool foo fighter tones out of this thing! I use a American standard strat, and i love it! check it out!

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

first thing first. the ds-2 is an aquired taste so try this pedal out before you buy it. with that being said i like the features this gives you two differnt distortion types mode 1 has more of a typical distortion sound mode 2 is a bit fuzzier with a mid boost. this pedal is good for anything from pop music to hard rock. not very good for metal music

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

I got this pedal a month ago and i am very pleased with it..You can get a nice distorted sound, good overdrive(not the best) and with the turbo mode set to II you can get more dirty and raw tone(Yeah!)You cant play metal with the turbo mode set to II but if you mix it with a metal muff or an MT-2 you may get a descent tone....It's like you have 2 pedals in one..It's great, i recomend it for anyone!(The roland battery must be replaced as it's not that good)

Bang for your Buck

By Chris Stookey

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

The Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion pedal is a super versatile piece of equipment. From classic rock tones, through modern rock, the Boss DS-2 has great distortion tones. The "Remote" feature is probably the most important benefit to the pedal. You can go from nicely crunchy rhythm tones to spiky lead sounds with the push of a pedal (the Boss FS-5 remote pedal, not included with the DS-2). Basically, this "Turbo" remote feature gives you a much neaded boost for lead tones, helping you stand out from the mix. Better yet, the DS-2 does this without coloring your basic guitar tone too much...so the nuances of your playing come through. All this for less than a C-note. Great bang for your buck!!!

better than the DS-1

By Eddie Hazel dreamer

from Sinking Spring, PA

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

this pedal is by far better than the DS-1 distortion. this pedal has two modes: turbo 1 and turbo 2. turbo 1 is identical to the japanese DS-1, so it sounds alot smoother and better than the stock DS-1. turbo 2 is what makes this pedal great. With a boost in the mids, and more sustain and voice, turbo 2 offers great lead tone and saturation. Perfect for soloing and taking center stage. This pedal gives good volume boost as well. This pedal can be tailored from a nice easy overdrive to raunchy distortion. Its in between the OD-3 Overdrive and the MT-2 Metal Zone. When i have enough money, i am surely getting this pedal. I wish i knew about this before buying the rather dull and plain DS-1

One of the greatest things placed on this earth!!!

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

I'm a really picky guy when it comes to finding the right sound, especially since i'm into the heaviest of metal bands. To me, it's really hard to find a pedal that matches or surpasses the natural overdrive of an amp, there's really only 3 that i can think of, this is one of them, it was the very 1st effect i had, it's been years and years, the sound has not failed me with any band yet, no matter if u want crunchy rythm chords, or something to give u a high power face melting solo. You can't go wrong with the DS-2, no matter what anyone says!!!!!

A fine pedal

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

The title of this review pretty much sums up the pedal, it's just a great pedal to own. I can see this suiting more of a 'mature' band than say Slayer although turned up full this pedal get's very heavy! Now I'm not being that fair really because I only have a Fender Frontman it's not quite a Mesa Boogie but a couple of weeks ago I tried it on a 30 watt amp and it sounded great. The amp wasn't even a good amp but without the pedal it sounded poor! In a few months time I'll be getting a Marshall Mg50dfx so hopefully it will sound even better then but overall it sounds great now. The only thing you have to remember is : As long as your amp is Ok (30 watt+) it'll sound great. The only over pedal I'd look at is the Digitech Metal Master.

Hands down the best money can buy

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

First of all, Boss is the best...find out for yourself. I love grunge music, and let me tell you the Turbo II mode is almost identical to the latter Nirvana distortion. As others have stated, the versatility is amazing..I don't use the Turbo I setting often because with my Randall it seems a bit bassy. The only issue that I have with this pedal (that I also like as well), is that is can produce some crazy feedback when compared to an overdrive or weaker distortion pedal. But, feedback is an excellent tool in custom sounds, so it's not really a big deal. Go Boss or go home!

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

Ahhh the DS-2. I bought one some years ago, and it has served me well. I can see some toneheads graduating on from this, as it is rather basic and limited and slightly cold sounding. But for a beginning distortion pedal, there's hardly a better one (saying this never having tried a tube screamer).
I mostly used the regular setting as the turbo mode added a mid boost that didn't usually work for me, but I could see other people either digging that tone, or really hating it. Anyway, I got a great deal of use out of mine and still enjoy using it, even though my amps on board distortion has now surpassed it.

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

I bought this because I have a Boss ME/X pedal board/effects unit, and it has an output for the turbo switch. I just got my BOSS Turbo Overdrive SD-2 fixed (out of production), and that is what I used to use, until my kid took it on an Eastern Europe tour and it quit! I actually find the Turbo Distortion a little easier to adjust, and having just listened to a CD of our recent jam band session, I can say that it sounds good. With other exterior adjustments, I got a pretty good "Jerry" sound on that singing, round-sounding sustain he often used, like in the segue between "Ashes, Ashes" and "Samson and Delilah", with some of that "Blues for Allah" desert-y stuff thrown in, if you know what I mean. It's a pretty good all around fuzz, not as extreme as a Metal Zone, but it does not give you a good, fat overdrive sound. The issue is always getting girth at low volume. Or, in other words, some transformer sag + speaker warmth, without actually driving the amp. I use an Egnater Tweaker 88 for the miracles, but this pedal performs well, and is a good, sturdy, "no surprises" piece of gear - nothing wrong with it at all.

Í had one of these in the 80's/90's and it was perfect. Got rid of pedals in favor of modeling but always missed the DS-2. So, I built another rig with pedals and this was the first one I bought and by the grace of God I can afford any of out them out there. No it's not boutiquey, or have a off the wall name but it is a very versatile pedal. Play with it, turn the knobs.

          from Undisclosed

Comments about Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal with Remote Jack:

Distortion type 1 is terrific for rhythm playing, and type 2 is voiced more for cutting leads as the upper mids are boosted and the low/low-mids are notched. Previously, I said type 2 beats the Metal Zone, and I lied. The Metal Zone is THE Boss go-to pedal for over-the-top Mesaesque gain and super-controllable EQ (I wish the DS pedals had 3-band and sweepable mids), while the DS-2 provides the ROCKER with a Marshallish rhythm channel/lead channel transition unit. If I could change just one thing about the pedal so far, it would be to modify the frequency boost of type 2 to make it less fat, and maybe send it to Robert Keeley or FJA Mods to see what they can do with her guts. Keep the price in mind; these aren't made in Japan anymore, and there was a noticeable difference between the ones from Japan and the ones from Korea!
