I think this pedal sounds like the digitech grunge pedal. I was disappointed with the sound, but im keeping it because i like collecting pedals.I own over 30 effect pedals. Metal is a matter of preference. Rock on Dudes!

        • Really Heavy Metal

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

This pedal is for people that play REALLY heavy stuff. Not like Judas Priest metal, but like early Bring me the Horizon and Parkway Drive metal. While it is not versatile, if you are in need of something with brutal bass and screaming highs, this is the pedal. Pinch harmonics are incredible out of this thing, controls are easy to use, and the design is compact and sturdy. My only complaint is a low-end feedback when playing breakdowns. This may be because of the environment around my amp, or my amp itself. However, if you need bone-crushing distortion, I would not discourage you from buying this.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

From my own band to the bands I'm in at church, this pedal is perfect. Killswitch Engage to Chris Tomlin, this thing crushes. I play a Jackson dinky with duncans and a Schecter blackjack with duncan blackouts through a randall RT50C. Through abuse from me, my drummer, other guitarist, singer, and other musicians i play with, I've had no complaints. Metalheads will love this pedal, and so will everyone else. I'm going to get a noise gate or something to quiet hum down, but it's hardly noticable; I'm just a tone freak.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I've had this pedal for about half a year now, and it still blows me away everytime. This pedal will give heavy riffs alot of extra grit and make solos scream. The settings I use are 11 o'clock for level and lows, and 3 o'clock for tone and distortion. Those settings make the craziest distortion for shredding. Amazing pedal.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I was a bit skeptical on getting this because the name was a bit cheesy and I thought it would be a try-hard pedal and just suck, but no. This pedal is amazing. It's more of a buzz than an overdrive pedal, but it's not supposed to be an overdrive now is it? You can get a very good metalcore, post-hardcore, or even deathcore sound out of this. I love it.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I like alot of distortion, but this one sounds very unnatural. It just sounds like a bunch of buzz. Having bass & treble help tweak your tone, but the buzz is always the same timbre. All you'll hear is BZZZZZZ. Even the DS-1 is better sounding. Get something else.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

It DJ0NTs first of all. An extremely high gain pedal. I plugged this thing into a Roland Keyboard amp with no effects and my tone was KILLER. Add mids on the amp, that's all you need. Honestly running this throguh any amp with a decent speaker at any tuning is helpful. Also it's a durable little box, left her out in the rain after a show, she still runs fine. You can't a get a lighter distortion from this thing to be honest. You get metal, not classic rock. Handles drop tunings VERY WELL. Almost models a tube amp disto when cranked. Doesn't make excess noise, and I recommend using a cable instead of a 9v, that gives it the power it needs.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I love this pedal. It sounds amazing. You can get those really distorted tones you hear from early Bring Me The Horizon and Whitechapel, but you can also get a small amount of distortion if you want. I saw the review that says it sounds digital. It must be an amp issue, because this sounds spectacular.

              from Chicago, IL

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

This pedal is absolutely amazing. I bought the pedal to use with an old tube head and this pedal covers everything from Pantera-esque sounds, to classic rock. The tone is so versatile. I can make my tube amp sound like a JCM800 with a bit of fine tuning. This is a must have for anyone who wants a heavy guitar tone. However, you must use an AC with proper polarity or this pedal will produce terrible huming sounds. With the right AC, it provides wonderful distortion and gives no feedback. My rig is a Gibson SG>volume pedal>crybaby>ML-2>Roland GP-16>120 watt head>Line 6 cabs.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

First off like other reviews say, this pedal is not meant for the 80's "metal". It's meant for real house shaking, amp overloading metal! I only bought this pedal a few days ago but i wanted it for quite some time. Its everything i need for what i play, perfect for the low dropped riffs, will make you harmonics scream and is an awesome soloing tool. I recommend this for anyone looking for that reall metal destortion. The only reson i gave it a 4.5 in features is because even though the controls opperate and sound great as they are, i would have liked a mid level just so i could tweak my tone just a bit more. Enjoy!

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I played this pedal at a local Guitar Center and it sounded great, but it also SOUNDED ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THE METAL ZONE. I tried playing the opening to "Raining Blood" by Slayer on both this pedal and the Boss Metal Zone. They both sounded great but the Metal Zone had that shreddin' sound that this one didn't have. The Metal Zone had better mids. For those of you headbangers who like to scoop the mids - metal has mids people! I like to scoop the mids alot but this pedal really made them cut through and sound natural. You can get some really heavy tones out of it, but it is better for crunchy rhythms than leads. If you are mainly a rhythm player and like to play super heavy metal, buy it, but if you play leads get the Metal Zone. They sound very close, but for leads the Metal Zone is far superior.

              from Undisclosed

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I give it a 9 because its not the sexiest thing in the world. To be totaly honest Bosses are kinda ugly, however if you're just looking for asthetic then you're probably not worrying about what is important. Great sound to unleash the artist within for reasonable prices.
Nothing short of plugging into a Krank and letting it rip. Tune it to the Gothenburg preset and you'll crunch out like a true swedish Black Metalist.
Boss' diecast stomp boxes are legendary for the abuse they can withstand and this is no acception.
Worth every penny, this is the only distortion pedal you will ever need for modern Metal.

Comments about Boss ML-2 Metal Core Distortion Pedal:

I'm not a metal grinding medalist and maybe if you are this pedal is for you. As for me I just wanted a good clean piercing to the ear type of distortion. This one I just got heavy distortion and wasn't able to dial in a sound that fit what I was looking for. It gave me heavy distortion and that was it. I haven't tried the Metal Zone yet but I did try the Dime Distortion that gave me more to work and sounded freaking great so I think I'm getting that one if the Zone doesn't change my mind about it when I do check it out. Killer petal if you want heavy heavy distortion.

This is the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on...or off!!! It made my Fender Twin sound like a dual rectifier on steroids. I am not kidding! I doubt I will use this for classic rock or reggae gigs, but I am still keeping this for my own enjoyment as I collect and own many Boss pedals. Looking forward to my next recording session. This box blew me out of the water. The tone controls work perfectly. Another fantastic boss product.
