This pedal does what you need folks. i've had this pedal for the past 2 years and im here to tell you that this is best noise gate i've used BY FAR!! I use a ton of gain and this thing just keeps everything nice and tight. This will take a bit for me to explain, but this will be VERY helpful. Here's my rig; 5150 > NS-2(OUT) and (IN) to my wireless. NS-2(RETURN)>CH-1>SD-1>JD-4S>ZW WAH>NS-2(SEND). Set the Threshold to 3'o clock and use the volume knob on your guitar to control the amount of gain you want and you're set. Just turn the pedal on and leave it alone! I couldnt be happier with my setup(that is until i get a HUSH Super C for the efx loop!)

I should start by telling you all that i play modern metal, not classic rock or anything close. I bought this pedal a few years back hoping to squash out the hiss in my amp due to my use of an overdrive in front of the amp.I used it in front of my amp with a ts9 in its little effects loop. it was very difficult to get the start-stop quick djent style stuff i wanted without a feedback remnant always cutting in. also, there was a noticable amount of cut on any palm-muted notes and really any note played would not sustain naturally. any setting on the decay would not help. but, i had to have the threshold up pretty high to knock out the hiss. you must also know that i am using a horrific amount of gain with a 6505+. I have the post gain maxed out and most other things maxed out as well. After much research and saving, i invested in the isp decimater g-string. this product was on a whole other level. the things that the ns-2 lacked this thing just has. It senses when you are playing, instead of opening a gate when you play loud enough. Even with my extreme gain settings, overdrive in front, booster in the effects loop, and volume all the way up on my guitar, i can start-stop all day long just like periphery and animals as leaders. plus, my palm muted notes fade naturally as do normally fretted notes. Another thing i have recently learned is that the ns-2 manufacturing process uses lead free solder, whereas the ns-1 has lead based solder. This resulted in a big difference in signal integrity, and is very evident if you leave the pedal on bypass and play something, then removeit from the chain, and play something. it darkens the tone alot.

In conclusion, if you want play the new styles of metal with all the gain and start-stop, buy the isp decimater g-string or pro rack g.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

This pedal is strange, it cuts out feedback and unwanted buzzing, but only if you aren't playing. It definitely cuts out some buzzing while playing, and is great for bass, but still the pedal is odd. It's pretty complicated to use, but then again, mind was used. Regardless of the cons, this is a great deal for a soundgate, and I definitely recommend it for cutting out feedback on a full throttle amp. The best thing I can say about this is that I can turn my amp up all the way now, which is a great feeling!

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

If your using a high gain amplifier, or running your guitar through a series of pedals, than you need to do your band mates and your audience a favor and use a noise gate. The BOSS NS-2 is an excellent noise gate and I think most people would be very satisfied with it's performance.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

Owner of 4 years of this pedal. I play high gain death metal and never had any problem with it. I use it at my band's practices, for recording and live performances. I used it with a Rocktron Vendetta, Peavey 6505+, ENGL rackmount and it always has done a wonderful job. It will suck up your tone only if you turn it all the way up. You do, however, have to find the right balance of gain from your amp and the level of the pedal to make it work at its best. Once it's done, it will never leave your pedalboard.

A good noise gate is a key element for your rig, and the Boss NS-2 is a great candidate. The ISP Decimator is great too, but since I never had any problems with the Boss NS-2, I never felt the need to buy anything else.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

All-in-all this pedal is good. I'm playing through a mesa boogie roadking 2x12 (dual rectifier). I play in a power/heavy metal band, so we do high gain stuff. I also use a ts-9dx to boost my signal and throw a little extra grit on it. I'm also playing through a pair of blackout humbuckers with the gain boost enganged. I'm also using an eq pedal in my fx-loop but no extra level boost (I show some restraint). So, in otherwords, the high gain channel on my amp needs some noise suppression.

When plugging my guitar in and setting it up in my fx-loop in what people on-line seem to call the "x-pattern", (after all 2-3 of the other pedals I use) I notice a change in my tone when I activate this pedal. Also, I have to mess around with my amp a little too much to help the NS-2 do its job. Basically I want a pedal that I can throw in my loop or something and kill the feedback and hum but not change my sound, or make ME change MY sound. This doesn't quite pull it off. It's way better than nothing, but if you play really high gain stuff like I do, consider yourself warned. Really good, but not quite the total package.

Love this pedal. Just hard to place on a small pedal board because of running the loop and in/ out lines properly. But this pedal is awesome. Cuts out all the noise but not your tone. Daisy Chain is a huge plus.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

If you play a tube head and use a favorite stomp box for a bit more drive for solos, this is a must have. Follow the directions and put your favorite stomp OD pedal in the loop of the NS-2. Run your guitar through the in and out of the NS-2 and into your high gain amp. I use a Boss SD-1 in front of a Soldano SLO100 head, and I'm telling you, this NS-2 is a miracle pedal. I can have the SLO cranked on the OD channel AND the SD-1 engaged and stop playing at any second, and ZERO NOISE! Plus, you can still fade out sustaining notes naturally with no harsh cut offs like most Hush style units. Yngwie uses this same pedal for his noise reduction, and I see why. It just doesn't get better than this for tube head/overdrive stomp box users.
