The Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter Pedal was specially developed to incorporate the same features and sonic clarity found in high-quality professional studio compressors. To achieve this Carl Martin incorporates a variable threshold, compression ratio, and attack/release controls and of course, a gain level.
General Guidelines on the use of the Compressor/Limiter:
Threshold: Working anti clockwise, determines how much of the signal will be compressed. This is also dependent on how much signal is fed from the instrument.
Comp: Working clockwise, determines how much compression is applied to the signal allowed by the threshold setting.
Resp: Working clockwise, determines the attack/release times, going from slow to fast. In general, if you want to hear the compressor working with a crisp attack you should use slow times. If you require silent limiting, you should use fast times.
Gain: Working clockwise, sets the overall gain.
Busy: Indicates the amount of compression being applied, even in bypass mode. The brighter it gets, the more compression is being applied.

The Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter is just the greatest. It's the least noisy, best-sounding compressor I've encountered. I've used many; Boss CS2 and CS3, Barber Tone Press, T.C. Electronic Sustain & Para EQ, Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone, Maxon CS-101, and the Carl Martin. It's not even a close call for any of these models.

I was trying out different compressors at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center, and came across the Carl Martin. It is a beautiful sounding compressor. Lots of squish and sustain. I plan on buying as soon as I get the money.

This is the first compressor Ive owned. I never liked NoiseGates or compressors much. I was wanting to attain a level signal to my effects (boxes). I read up on compressors and investigated many different reviews, specs, and opinions, which led me to the CM Limiter. I had never heard of this company before. I took a chance and spent the extra bucks and purchased the CM Limiter and was disappointed at first. But I didnt know what I had, or what to do with it. Alot more reading on the internet and before ya know it the CM Limiter was kick'n !!! I was uninformed about the nature of a compressor, and was unable to take advantage of both the quality and easiness of operation of the CM Limiter. Its awesome, and now I cant play without it! Ive never had a problem with it(yet), and as far as I can tell, its built well enough for the road. I would recommend this unit to any giging guitarists.

The Carl Martin Compressor Limiter sounds great (very clear) and compresses like it should. I am used to using studio compressors and this one is exceptionally clear for a stomp box.However, I dropped it from 3 feet onto a carpet and it broke. When I opened it up, I found that the pots were directly attached to the PCB board! This is an engineering no-no; they should be decoupled so impacts to the PCB are minimized. A BOSS pedal wouldn't break, so I don't see why this one should when it is 3x the price.I sent it back to the company, but the said user error and I had to pay another $150 to have it fixed. Since then, I've only used it at home. I wouldn't use it live.

Every major recording you?ve ever heard has some compression, especially on bass and guitar. If you record electric guitar ?you need a compressor. And if you want professional-quality Nashville chicken? picking? sound, good compression is absolutely essential. Carl Martin is the one. This little beauty bench-tests at an incredible -105dB s/n ratio! (I checked!) That?s better than boutique units that cost ten times as much! (Really? go read the specs for yourself!) But this compressor is optimized for guitar level signals, which saves half of your tweaking. It can be perfectly adjusted in just seconds, literally! Yet it is not over-simplified or like most of the popular two-knob compressors. It does exactly what it is supposed to? nothing more. It does its job sweetly, quietly, and has never let me down, despite daily use for over a decade. In my thirty years of studio playing, I have used every compressor you could think of. This one is what big boys use for guitar. If you want supreme quality, super low noise, zero coloration with sensitive yet easy control, Carl Martin makes the best compressor for electric guitar.

I am sure some would disagree, but I did not like this pedal. After 2 hours of trying to find the "sweet spot" I realized...it doesn't have one! I returned it. I have owned and used other Martin pedals and really liked them! This one let me down. Tonally dead, not to mention it picked up a radio station when engaged.

This is a high quality compressor with lots of tweakability. From subtle to squashed, it's all there. It is expensive, but durable. Once you have it, you can't live without it!
